Best Massage Ever! I have been getting massages by Ying for over 6 years, and I am never disappointed. Today I was having a lot of sciatic and hip pain, and I couldn't even walk or get out of a chair without severe pain. So, I called Panacea Massage for a same day appointment. Ying knew exactly how to treat my pain, which included pain relief ointment and hot rocks. After my 90 minute massage, I was able to walk and get out of a chair! Cute little shop that's legit. No late night, questionable activities here that I could see. I booked a couple's massage less than 24 hours before it occurred and they had a nice little room for my husband and I to enjoy the massages. An hour and half couple's massage at Panacea is the price of a single massage for the same time elsewhere. They do the work, too! I was very uncomfortable with the lack of modesty/privacy. My masseuse kept uncovering me even when I kept moving the sheet back to cover myself. I'm used to a more professional environment where they strategically tuck the sheet so that you're not left exposed. The massage itself was just okay. Some parts of it were good, some parts were downright painful. She massaged parts of me that I had marked on the sheet not to touch because I had a sunburn. The real kicker was after the massage when I went to pay... First off I'll just say there was a pretty severe language barrier so that made this whole interaction more difficult to navigate. So my masseuse typed in a calculator the cost of my massage, and I was to type in the tip I wanted to add, which I did. She laughed and shook her head, and pointed to a handwritten sign they had up, which showed their "suggested" tip amount. Which was triple what I wanted to tip. She was very insistent that I had to tip this amount. I tried explaining to her that a tip is extra and this is the amount I'm going to tip. She got visibly angry with me, rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing. She eventually got another woman to come and talk to me, and she was kind and added the tip amount I wanted to pay and rung me up. I was so shocked, I have never been treated that way regarding a tip! In my experience, a tip is an extra amount to give if the service is amazing. I chose to give a tip amount that I felt was fair for the service I got. As a business, you can't just decide what tip amount you want to get and then force your customers to pay it - that's not how tipping works. It just felt very unprofessional and it left a bad taste in my mouth for sure. I will not be returning. read more

Great little place on Mangrove Ave. I really like them because they can take walk in and are very accommodating for last minute appointments. Service: The cashier/staff is always very friendly. Very accommodating and professional. Massage: I always ask for deep tissue, but I never really get enough pressure. It's a good swedish massage place, but if you want a deep tissue I would recommend elsewhere. The massage therapist is usually pretty nice, but one time I wasn't able to communicate with them so I'm not sure if they understand that I wanted more pressure in certain areas. I've tried Panacea a total of four times. There was always something disappointing about the experience, but I have previously attributed it to not being fully understood because of the language barrier. At this point, I feel like I need to share my experiences, because it's been rough ... and painful. My first massage experience was decent, so I returned with my boyfriend for a couples massage, but they did not have a couples room available even though they said they did. He ended up waiting for over an hour in the waiting room while I got a massage, because no other rooms were open. He was not stoked. They did give me a discount coupon for this experience, so that's something. I returned a third time with my mom, in part because i could use my discount, but she felt like the masseuse couldn't understand her. She massaged places that are painful for her, even though she asked her not to touch or put pressure in specific places on her body beforehand. I was hesitant to try a fourth time, but I needed to schedule a massage quickly. Panacea was able to get me in for a massage the next day, but this fourth and final bad experience compelled me to write this review. Dear reader, I have just returned from the most horrendous massage I have ever received and can confidently say I won't be back. I'll just get this out of the way: I have reason to believe that the person massaging me did not actually know how muscles work. Maybe she did in theory. She did provide very firm pressure like I requested, but mainly on my ligaments, joints, and bones. And she was moving at such a rapid speed, I could only conclude she was trying to compensate for a missed CrossFit class. I do hope she was wearing her Fitbit, so she can calculate how many calories she burned beating the crap out of me. With regards to privacy, the sheet must have just been for show, because a majority of my body was exposed to the world for the duration of the massage. It was quite the drafty experience. There was a point when she was attempting to massage my glutes, a bare booty cheek in each hand, and was moving with such incredible speed and force that when she let go the cheeks clapped together with a loud SMACK. It was in that moment that I wondered: should I be getting paid for this? In all honesty, I am in more pain than I was when I walked in. I'm no masseuse, but in my experience massages are supposed to be relaxing, targeted pressure, slow and consistent application of pressure, and clear communication. After four failed tries, I unfortunately must give Panacea one star. It is convenient that they can get you in so quickly, but evidently there is a reason they always have openings available. Note: I originally wrote an offhand bad review making light of my experience, but a representative from Panacea called me shortly after it was posted, and she was very upset and angry about what I had said. I decided to re-write my review with more detail to hopefully serve as constructive criticism for this business. read more

The music is super relaxing and the ladies there do a really amazing job. I'm trying a few other places around Chico and they weren't as good. The massage I received today at Panacea massage was truly masterful. I have low back and sciatica pain. Ying (I believe, there was a bit of a language barrier) gave a professional, detailed and expert massage. I received a 90 minute deep tissue. She worked my low back, hips, glutes, and piriformis To help with the sciatica. She also did a great Job of my neck, upper back and shoulders. I immediately re booked with her for my next session. I went here for my birthday to get my first ever massage, and I can honestly say it was an amazing experience! The environment is so relaxing, clean and comfortable. I received a 60 minute full body massage & it was heavenly! The staff are SO lovely and kind. They ask if the temperature of the room is okay, I asked for the ac to be turned on a little bit. Panacea has amazing massages. I woke up feeling sick and achey, messaged on yelp for a massage and got a response within 20 minutes. They were able to fit me in first thing when they opened for a 60 minute massage. It was nearly 70 minutes and one of the best massages I've received. Very fairly priced and I love the fact that they offer massages anywhere from 30-120 minutes depending on your needs and schedule. Panacea will definitely be my new massage place in Chico! read more

I decided to try Panacea, and Sing did a great job of relieving the stress in my shoulders and back with the Tui Na massage.
