If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I went for a couples massage and neither one of us enjoyed any part of it. Nothing about our experience was a "massage", it was a work over. My person pinched my neck muscles so hard and so long, with her thumb digging in on one side and her fingers on the other side. Most of the session was spent on my neck, and even when she did migrate down to my back or legs, she went right back up to the neck area. The entire time I was on my stomach, she left my butt hanging out (very very uncomfortable). After the massage, my husband mentioned how uncomfortable that was for him too - apparently that is standard practice here. "on your stomach, butt exposed!" We had scheduled a 90-minute massage, and for the majority of it, both masseuses held a conversation with one another. How the hell are you supposed to relax and enjoy a couples massage with a full-on conversation happening? Many times, during the conversation there was laughter and whispers....I ask you, if you are in a massage salon, naked, and your face resting in a hole...could YOU relax with cross talk/laughter/whispers between employees? I would be very cautious booking here. I clearly told the therapist more than once to stay away from my spine area. I had to tell her three times in total before asking her to do legs only. Because of a lack of understanding of english I would suggest other therapists. Additionally she clearly wasn't an experienced therapist by the way she pushed on the spine multiple times. This has been the case recently with no regular therapist anymore. Always cycling new faces in and out. I was told by the owner this therapist is already out??? I experienced pain afterwards. I was told Wendy the owner was in China at the time so the manager Michelle gave me a piece of paper for a free massage with her signature on it. I did not want to pay for the poor and painful massage but I was told I could get a free massage with Wendy and would be able to talk with her about my experience when she got back. When I finally got to speak with Wendy, she was dismissive and put the blame on me. I was told it was my responsibility to end the session even though I had already communicated my concerns more than two times with a verbal understanding from the therapist. She stated... "it's a Chinese massage they don't speak or understand English, you should have got up and talked to the manager." She actually expected me to get up an hour into the massage get dressed and go talk to the manager about a communication problem??? I was told multiple times over the years that they have enough communication to understand all they needed for massage related questions. It wasn't a conversation I was trying to have. Very simple to understand, NO SPINE PLEASE! Then she hung up on me. I called back thinking it was a mistake and her husband Don stated she didn't understand me and didn't want to talk any more. The nerve of this person. He was just the same as Wendy. Dismissive, rude and not willing to work it out. I tried .t best to talk to this establishments owner and work this out. This is what happened. I have been here many times and I am familiar with Wendy. To be treated this way really says something about her and the way she handles her business and complaits brought to her. She is not honorable or genuine. She showed no concern or remorse for my experience or pain. Her willingness to dissmiss and potentially lose a customer of over 8 years for asking her to honor the free massge her manager gave me, and help me with pain I still was experiencing spoke volumes about her true nature. This is my second time at Wendy's and I was just as happy today as I was the first time! Coco was my massage therapist she did an amazing job! I probably let her do a little bit too much pressure on the deep tissue as I am super super sore about 12 hours later. I know that drinking lots and lots of water will make all the difference so if you get a deep tissue massage make sure you start drinking water the minute you leave or you will pay for it later! I feel lucky. I came to Wendy's Massage and was able to walk in and got Wendy herself as my massage technician. Atmosphere: 5 star. The place reminds me of Massage Envy with a Asian theme. The place is safe, clean, and tasteful. Quality: The massage, by Wendy herself, was 5 star. I have had a lot of massages and this one I could tell she knew what she was doing. A lot of places go through the motions with palms and forearms, Wendy was intuitive and responsive to my bodies knots and spent the extra time in those locations getting them out. Wendy is the "Knot Whisperer." She is incredible at finding knots and working them out. If I could give one tip it would be to book a longer massage time with her to work out all your knots. Days after my massage with her, I'd wake up in the morning limber, my back and joints were "loose" it was the best feeling. It felt like every other night I had been sleeping with my clothes and shoes and now I knew what it was like to go to sleep and wake up without them. Value: For the quality it is a 5 star value. The hour deep tissue, as I recall, was $64. Massage Envy would have been more with their membership. I knew there are other massage places in town, such as Prana Endura Wellness Center, that are highly rated. Although, I have yet to get a massage there, the prices are more expensive. While the other places that charge $45 or more are leave me feeling like I need another massage a in a week sooner. For amount of money I paid, it was the best massage value in Chico, CA. Service: 5 star. Professional. Everything was very polite and legit. She upsold me on some asian oil for an extra $8 is a non aggressive way and it turned out good. They have cupping as well as other types of massages I have not experienced. If I wanted to try it out, quality and price wise, this would be the place I would do it. Service was in January 2021. Great massage and quick to accommodate me when I called, I was a little surprised they could fit me in so quickly. I showed up and was quickly escorted to my room where I would receive my massage. The entire time they were very professional and courteous. I never experienced 'cupping' until my visit but it was so amazing. I have been receiving massage therapy for 5 years due to chronic pain and have seen many different massage therapists. When I went to Wendy's, unfortunately I came out with much more pain than I came in. My therapist didn't introduce herself to me or ask where my pain was. In less than 12 hrs, my shoulders and neck feel bruised to the touch because of how rough she was with me. She "massaged" my neck with a pinching motion so one side had her thumb digging in, and the other side had 4 fingers. The spot where her thumb was, was sore the moment I stood up. At one point she left the room without telling me where she was going (she got a nice hot towel) and at another point she straddled me on the table! Being face down with half my bum hanging out on the table without knowing the name of the person touching me is an incredibly vulnerable situation and having her leave the room without saying anything felt unprofessional amongst all the other things. I understand there are different practices for massage therapy. Perhaps straddling clients' backs is normal in other practices, but of the many therapists I have seen, that was shocking. Please at least warn clients before sitting on them. Additionally, there were multiple points when she was pushing way too hard on the back and sides of my waist and it hurt my stomach bad. I should have spoken up more and that is on me. However tools to minimize language barrier, a better bedside manner, and establishing expectations before being face down would have made that easier for me. Here are my suggestions to Wendy's massage: - take a moment to ask the client: 1. If it is their first time 2. If they would like soft/medium/firm pressure 3. If they have any sensitive spots. These 3 questions can be put on a paper form where clients can circle answers to help language barriers. - say "I'll be right back" when you leave the room - warn clients before sitting on them - don't pull clients' underwear down so much... it is normal for them to be pulled down a bit but my bum cheeks weren't the part being worked on. Additionally, make sure to warn first timers of what you are doing before you pull down their underwear. - be more mindful of vital areas like neck and organs There are many many good reviews of this establishment hence the reason I'm spending time writing this... perhaps I came in on a bad day but either way I'm hoping someone will see this and these things will be taken into account so someone else can avoid what I went through. read more

I'm giving two stars because the pricing was good ($73 for a one hour) and the lady in the front (who I assume is the owner) and the massage therapist I had was nice. However the massage was a different story. I went in with some back and shoulder pain but I left feeling 10x worse pain and felt dizzy. I usually go to another massage place nearby but decided to give this place a try. The deep massage at the beginning felt good and got my kink out but after a little bit it got to be too much as she used her elbows and way too much pressure to where I felt I could barely breath. I asked to lighten up on the pressure a bit and it would happen for a little but then she'd be Right back to the very intense pressure. I'm already a really small person so it doesn't take much pressure to hurt me. When she got to the claves and thighs the pressure was fine though. Wish it was like that for my back and shoulders she dug he elbow in to my traps and shoulder blade. Last night I could barely move my back and neck and had to spend the night laying on the couch . It's now the next morning and I've woken up with immense neck and shoulder pain. (And yes I've been drinking a lot of water and electrolytes since the massage) Probably won't go back. read more

Went in for some neck and back pain. Idk how they got so many likes but literally felt worst after the massage. There were many times where her elbows will be on top of my back spine and it was very painful. Just woke up from a nap and my neck/upper back where the spine is is feeling worst than before the massage, there's soreness there as if someone punch out my spine. The arm and leg massage was the only time it didn't hurt but literally the back and head massage was the worst. Will not be going back. I walked in and the owner, yes owner, greeted me at the door with no mask on. I asked her where it was and she didn't understand me and basically said you don't need a mask here. They are NOT following Covid regulations. Once she realized I was about to pretty much walk away she quickly put one on. I was desperate for a nice relaxing massage and told her I did NOT want deep tissue, I wanted soft, soothing, relaxing massage. She nodded like she understood. Also at that point several customers came out and employees WITHOUT MASKS ON!!! That should've been a RED FLAG to leave. I even questioned if whether the equipment in the rooms were sanitary or not. I asked her if they wipe down the tables and she said no and then she pointed at the hand sanitizer and said that's all what we have. And then she quickly said no we do sanitize. I really don't think they do but I was prepared and I had my own sanitizer to sanitize my own table. :(((( Now let's talk about the massage. I feel as if I was BEATEN, I had to tell the woman more than 10 times to go softer and to stop going so fast on my body and pressing down on my chest so hard where I couldn't take nice relaxing deep breath. All I can say is WOW. Angela did an absolutely amazing job, was incredibly professional, and very talented and intuitive. I have been in constant discomfort for some time now, I have everything from overuse athletic injuries to aches and pains from my job duties and lifestyle in general. It was time, so I found Wendy's Massage and saw the great ratings. I opted for a 90 min combo massage of Chinese deep tissue and Cai Bei (walking massage) with the oil and hot stones, and it was the best decision I could've ever made for the various issues I've been experiencing. SCM pain, tension headaches, impinged shoulders, tons of fibrous adhesions along my spine, shoulder blades, traps, neck... you get the picture. She also went on to work some whole body in, too. She found some other problem spots that I was neglecting because of my most prevalent shoulder and neck pain. I feel fantastic. Facilities were very clean, relaxing, feng shui. My only slight criticism is some of the other ladies were talking loudly once my massage was over, which "disturbed the peace" just a little bit. It is a Saturday night, at the end of the evening, but still. Nonetheless, I'm not all that bothered by it because the massage was everything I could've hoped for and more. I have been coming now for 5+ years, and Amy is my go-to therapist. I often call on a whim, and they can accommodate me in 30 minutes or less. The massage therapists here are excellent. I went in with my stepfather last-minute, and they accommodated us. They were extremely friendly and directed us toward the Tui Na. This form of therapy is used in conjunction with acupressure. I found it to be extremely effective for my body. I am a practiced and Certified Massage Therapist (600+ hours), working at an award-winning spa in Redding. I am also attending college to pursue Chiropractic, so knowing about the body is very important to me. The technique is different than Swedish--which is what most Americans are used to-- because their training is more directed toward Chinese therapies. The Tui Na I received was not fluffy, it was effective. It should be noted, too, that the therapies are firmer. I would recommend this for people who enjoy deep tissue or firmer massages, or people seeking to fix an issue or deep-rooted tension rather than relax. I drank a lot of water the after my massage, and found my soreness to be at a minimum. I will undoubtedly return to this effective, clean, professional and friendly place in Chico. I called same day and asked to be seen and were able to take me right away. I did their 1 hr deep tissue with their Chinese herbal add-on (stuff actually works and acts as a natural lidocaine) and was massaged by Linda in a private room. Also let me tell you this lady KNOWS what she's doing and properly identified problematic areas that even I was unaware of. She took her time, listened to my desired level of pressure, and asks for feedback along the way to keep discomfort minimal. What more could you ask for? I walked in on a Sunday and had a great experience! I work on my feet 6 days a week and my body was very sore. These women know their business. I have been here for Tui Na here multiple times, and so has my husband. He has had a discectomy, has herniated discs, and a sciatica problem. This is the only treatment that has had any lasting effect for him since his surgery (he's had acupuncture, chiropractic work, and pain killers). The Tui Na is a very deep tissue massage, and it can hurt a bit, but the hurt is so good! They will ask you while they work on you if it is too hard; of course let them know if it is. I disagree with the woman who says a massage should never hurt. Tight sore muscles being eased back in to proper alignment are going to hurt. I do not have any injuries or health problems, but I find that the deep tissue technique of Tui Na is really beneficial anyway for everyday tension that I carry from the pressures of my job, for soreness from running, etc., and would highly recommend it to anyone for stiffness or kinks or knots built up from everyday stress. The best thing about the women who work here is that they seem to be very intuitive about zoning right in on areas that need work. One woman, I believe her name is Amy, spent extra time at the end of my massage with me kneeling on the table, working on my neck, for quite a while, until a big "pop" happened, and suddenly I felt flooded with relief. It was during a very stressful time and I was holding all my tension there, and somehow she knew, and fixed it. To the person who was "duped" into more time on the table: I have been asked at Wendy's if I wanted more time. I chose to have more time. More time is not free. If you didn't want more time, you should have said no. That was your fault, not theirs. read more

It was wonderful to walk right in and get a couple massage. It was total spur of the moment type of thing! We went for the Tui Na one on the menu. Since they were Chinese and this is a Tui Na technique, why not? This was new to me, that is a massage technique! Ok, I confess, I have over a 1000 hours and 5K dollars in education/professional training in Body work. In additon I was a professional for many years. I found the massage very deep, alot of thumbs, and vigerous. The technique did not allow the pressure to relax into the muscles. I was pretty sore for a few days, but ok with this. I had told the gal to lighten up when the pressure became to extreme. I did feel better and looser after a few days of recovery of internal muscle bruising. My body has had so much body work in the past it is ok with deep work. Now my partner just took his massage like a trooper. He did not object to the excessive pressure and ended up being hurt by it. It took about 10 days for him to get better. A few hours after his massage, he had a sore throat. His neck became extremely sore for over a week. He felt like his lymphs on the front of his neck were damaged. His muscles were bruised around his neck, shoulders and back. I understand the lymph system, healing crisis, etc...but my partner is a super fit, never get sick kind of guy. We drank alot of water after. I asked him about the pressure from 1 - 10, he said it was a 10 plus! I totally scolded him for not speaking out! Massage should never HURT HURT...a little pain yes, but alot NO NO NO! I would return here, but I do warn others to speak up if the pressure gets to much. Massage is not to hurt, if it does, then you are damaging tissue!
