I originally went here for a massage due to realizing that my posture had gotten horrible. Sandra does reflexology, which was new to me, but felt amazing! I got talking to Mikell one day about the issues I've had with my skin; I have extremely dry skin that causes breakouts. Nothing has worked, since I was 16. Until now!! Mikell is honestly a miracle worker!! And the products she uses are naturally based and wonderful!! After a couple weeks of getting regular facials, I decided "what the heck, I need a haircut too, why not??" and made a haircut appt. That was a lovely decision!! I told Britton to do what he thought would look good, and he did a lovely job! Different than what I had and a cut that has gotten me lots of compliments. Bottom line--they have a customer who will keep coming back!! The only thing I haven't tried is a manicure/pedicure. But I have a feeling when I'm due for one, I know where I will come!! Plus. They treat you like family! It's very welcoming!!

She's intuitive, professional, and a clear communicator- letting me know ahead of time what to expect and making sure I felt comfortable to communicate my needs regarding pressure/intensity and areas of concern. Lora is also very knowledgeable and offered me suggestions for how to ease tension in my leg muscles using a foam roller, to continue loosening the muscles she worked on. She also doesn't rattle on with unnecessary chatter...unless that's what you want. I prefer quiet time to reflect and breathe into the work. Her demeanor is relaxed and soothing and at no point did I feel rushed, including afterwards when she encouraged me to take a few minutes to stretch and breathe before rising to dress. Lora is a true healer. I highly recommend her and I'll be returning again to receive her magic touch, for sure! :)

Both of them NEVER had an issue finding my veins and getting the IV in painlessly on the first try, even when I was dehydrated or getting over the flu. Dr. Kermen also did mine once with zero issues or pain. The only issues I've had here are with the new people who I rarely or have never seen before. Allie had a hard time a while back and had to stick me a couple times. I have probably had 20 IVs between different clinics over the last 4 years, so this is nothing new to me. Today, I went in, and immediately realized the one nurse in here I had never seen before, James. I immediately got anxiety bc I didn't know how it was going to go. He stuck me TWICE in two veins on two different arms that people typically don't struggle with, and had to end up texting another nurse to come in on her day off to see if she could take a look. That nurse was Alicia. After looking me over, she tried a third time and nope, still couldn't get it. While she was looking me over, James was working on another client and couldn't get his in either and needed Alicia to come try that client too! At that point I decided I was over it and my anxiety was so bad. I did not want to keep being stuck, so I left and they refunded me and I sat in my car after and cried. I have a lot of anxiety every time I come in that it's going to hurt, and with Julia, my fears are always taken away, and I feel amazing after. This experience was so terrible IDK if I'll ever be ready to come back here or try another IV any time soon. I'm so bummed.

Claudia has been my "Beauty Goddess" (inside joke from years ago) for over 32 years since 1988…read more She once joked that we've been together longer than a lot of people have been married. My updated review may be a bit long but it is extremely necessary at this time. In 1990 I started dental hygiene school at University of California, San Francisco so I temporarily moved from Orland to San Francisco. At that time Claudia also saw clients at a salon in Palo Alto on some weekends so it was really convenient for me to see her there. In 1998, my late husband and I permanently moved to San Francisco when he started physical therapy school at UCSF. In 2001 Claudia got married and we attended her wedding on Kauai to a sweet guy I went to high school with. Eventually life got too busy for regular trips up to our hometown and my husband and I found stylists here in SF. But, we were never really thrilled and old photos confirm it. In 2006 my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness and was hospitalized taking us back up to Chico every Thursday night through Monday morning for about six weeks. We had to cancel our hair appointments in SF and were looking at bit scruffy. Knowing that Claudia is generally booked solid for months and doesn't ordinarily take new clients, I took a chance anyway and reached out to her letting her know that we were in Chico and of our situation. She said, "Oh. Can you come in at 6pm tomorrow?" I thought that it was a miraculous turn of events and someone else must have cancelled. Turns out she stayed late just for us!!! My husband commented the next day that, "She's the only one who can ever get my hair right." He wasn't wrong. (heehee). My dad passed away a few hours after I saw Claudia five weeks later. Knowing that we would be going up to Orland more often to see our elderly parents we made the decision to break up with our SF stylists and get back together with our Beauty Goddess. Sadly, my husband passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly two years later in 2008. Claudia was there for me then just as she has always been, and worked hard to keep the vibe of the salon quieter and more relaxed & anxiety-free the first few times I was back in after he died. So here we are in 2020. On March 13th I had to return early from a month-long vacation due to Covid restrictions. I was in the middle of selling a house in Orland and had to be in the area on March 17th to finalize it. Again miraculously Claudia was able to see me that day with both of us assuming that a shut-down was eminent. And of course it was. In mid-June my hair was looking pretty funky so I reached out to ask what over the counter hair color would be the least damaging. Claudia responded by sending me my hair color formula and then talking me through the application process. I don't have the patience for the detail regarding my hair that she does but the outcome was presentable. I told her that I would promise not to color anyones hair if she promised not to clean anyones teeth. In July, state regulations allowed Claudia to open her salon but for numerous reasons I was hesitant to schedule. I was so grateful when she called letting me know that she had had a short-notice cancellation and offered the time spot to me. I happily drove up to see her and especially enjoyed having the luxury of being the only client in the salon. But it's important to note that at Mecca Salon, each stylist has their own room with a door that closes. When I left, I jokingly said something to the effect of seeing her in another four months. Well, not surprisingly Butte County closed salons just a few days later. When the restriction was lifted recently, Claudia reached out to me. Again, I was not comfortable scheduling in advance. Fortunately, Claudia reached out to me with an opening today. Turns out she came in just to take care of me and once again I had the luxury of being the only client in the salon the majority of the time. As a dental hygienist I have a solid grasp of proper infection control and Claudia's sanitation protocol is very thorough. She cannot use her blow drier at this time but so what. Yes, the appointment takes longer without the use of the large hair dryer to process my hair color. Again, so what. I truly appreciate all of the steps she's taking to ensure client's safety. Cheers to another 33 years together, Claudia!

I struggled to find things to use the gift card on actually. I did see a couple people leave really happy, wish I could've been one of them. Oh well at least it was a gift card and now I don't ever have to worry about trying to book with them again, or ever stepping foot back into that weird smelling salon.

I called made an appointment took a chance and got a massage here. I have gotten hundreds of massages over the world and over Chico. Not to say I understand fully what to expect from a foot massage place versus say a spa. I've had good and bad at both. It's Sunday I was in a pinch and didn't have many options. Despite the sign saying it's $40 for a body massage, when I went inside they told me it would be $45. As I am dressed for my massage I noticed that the only thing which separates me from the millions of bodies before me who laid on the bed with a thin sheet of transparent paper. In the next 30 minutes I will experience the artist experience I've ever encountered. The lady was giving me a massage is terrible massage is lackluster would be an understatement. Despite the fact that I requested for deep tissue. She proceeds to have multiple conversations with her colleagues as they enter the room multiple times. Each time she has these conversations she stops massaging. To make matters worse each time there was a customer she wouldn't abandon me in the room naked cold and come back only to resume even a more lackluster massage then when she had left. Finally the pinnacle of this event West when she exited the room for 10 minutes only to have a totally different person enter the room without warning to start giving me a massage. It had to be the creepiest experience I've had dust far. I only had one hour because that's how long my childcare was scheduled for to get this massage. The frustration building up in me was so that I could no longer take it I had to get up and explain that I was leaving. They then asked me to pay $30 for 30 minutes. I refused and told them to call the police because this was not service rendered.
