This is the BEST place to buy wine in Salem. Very reasonably priced. Being from the Midwest, it was amazing to see the variety that they have, and I found something interesting everyday. The staff is extremely friendly, and when I said that this was the last time I would get to see them, one of the employees gave me a discount! I absolutely adore this store! I'm a big fan of any kind of food/kitchen/gift store and when it's all rolled into one, I pretty much dance with joy. The store is adorable. When you first walk in, there is a big section of fun little gift items (think aprons - with matching witch hats of course -, placemats, candles, napkin rings, etc). In the middle section of the store, check out the gourmet food items like 'zebra farfalle' and 'maple pumpkin butter spread' made by local companies. The third section of the store is devoted to beer, wine, and other liquors. There are lots of local labels mixed in with others and the prices are fair as well. I could have stayed in here all day and browsed (and spent a pretty penny, to be sure). I will be back!!! Christmas presents - for sure. read more

Love Pamplemousse! They carry some very nice, off the beaten path wines, that are also really affordable. You won't find a Beringer bottle in the place. Try the Las Rocas, Salice, or Red guitar. For whites, the Relax Reisling is very good. My kitchen and bath also sport numerous items picked up in Pamplemousse. Great for gift giving, with seasonally changing stock. They recently added unique beers to their collection as well, available by the bottle, or six pack. Diane and the staff are very friendly and helpful. read more

I love this place so much. I am "nesting" because I just moved into a kick ass apartment.. and yea... this place's kitchen stuff plus beer kind of hurts my brain. They have a simple selection of craft beers, and yummy wines. The kitchen things a nice and cute. IMO (in my opinion) a store in a populated section of the country does not need a huge selection of craft beers and wonderful wines. If you are looking for the huge selections... go somewhere else, somewhere where they aren't as informative and kind. pamplemousse had a bit of a revamp several months ago. nothing they used to carry changed, but they added a ton of rad grocery-type items. they have stripey pretty pasta, a bunch of sauces and mixes (many of the stonewall kitchen variety), more quirky seasonal table items, and more. they have a bunch of cool chocolate bars (some european, some with sea salt, stuff like that) and this great hot sauce/mustard hybrid that my fiance picked up a couple months ago. like i mentioned in my first review, this is a perfect spot for gifts. today i picked up a housewarming gift for someone as well as a thank you card that i should have sent out in may or june. yikes. read more

LOVE it!! I stop in at least a few times a month to pick up a gift and of course to stock up on great wines and beer. The beer selections is great. Wish they carried more cheese, pate, olives, etc. in the cooler. Service is friendly. One funny moment...I was in there one day and they must have turned on the wrong CD because it was eminem playing something about fucking his mother and the girl sprinted across the store to get the thing turned off. Wasn't bothering me at all and the gaggle of women spraying perfumes didn't even notice. It's a great place and if you are looking for a unique gift, wine or beer...GO. read more

Really nice home and kitchen store. There are so many fun and useful items. It would be really easy to pick up a hostess gift here. There is a large specialty food section, with many local products. Where they really shine though is the beer and wine selection. They have a huge selection of both with many harder to find items. It's definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. read more

I wish I could give this place five stars because I believe it is a lovely local place that has some good staff working there, but my experience tonight ended on a sour note. I was paying for something after spending quite a bit of time looking and hoping to buy items to get started on mixing. Someone named Ian was there and he was very helpful and friendly. This man is an asset and deserves five stars. But I left feeling upset because as I was paying I was asking the woman taking my payment about a different item and instead of answering my question she rudely rushed me through and told me to step aside so that a tall middle aged white guy who was staring me down could come and pay. To begin with, I felt this guy staring at me, which was uncomfortable, but then to have this woman who works there take cues from him instead of treating me with dignity and respect as a paying customer was just too much. I was going to buy more items before leaving but was so turned off by this experience that I just left. All customers deserve respect, not just entitled people who are acting like the space belongs solely to them. I hope this woman learns that it's not ok to treat people so rudely. I wanted so to make this a local stop but when I see that person working I will avoid this spot. read more

I just had a very nice experience at this store. Yesterday, I needed some parmesan cheese for my meatballs and the cheese shop was closed so I went to Pamplemousse. At first I didn't see any but the gentleman at the counter (never did catch his name but he had an English accent), got me the last wedge. It was pre-packaged from some company, not like the kind you find in the grocery store. Unfortunately, when I got home and opened the wedge, it was moldy, though no fault of the store. I was already cooking and not able to go back so I called the store and told the gentleman what happened and he told me to come back and he would refund my money. I just went back this evening to return the cheese and not only did the same gentleman refund my money, he gave me a lovely little bottle of sparkling wine, all wrapped up in a gift bag. In this day, when customer service is so important, this store, and this gentleman, got it so right! I'll definitely continue to shop there. Thank you sir, for everything! read more

So I'm walking along on a cold snowy winter night before the holidays and this place just pulled me right in. It's an awesome store. I found neat things in there that I wasn't expecting. The staff was very nice and helpful. And then I discovered the specialty wine and beer selection in the back. I mean it's hard to find some of my favorites and they have them all. Only reason why I gave it 3 stars instead of 4 is because the prices are pretty outrageous, which I guess can be expected for a specialty store like this. I mean, I think I saw a box of pasta for like $10 (or something close to that amount). I wasn't going to buy anything but then I discovered that they sell mead. So I bought a bottle which came to $17. I was happy to have found mead so close to where I live, but then I went to Vinnin liquours a week later and found the same bottle of mead for $10. But like I said, little stores like this one sometimes have to mark up their prices this high in order to stay in business. read more

A cute, small store that has a surprisingly wide selection of various grocery items, wine, beer, cookware, and gifts. They have many locally produced items as well. I bought a jar of apple butter from nearby Connecticut (I believe) to give to my mom when I return home to PA. I also picked up a locally made wine and a French rose wine. Some specialty pasta, organic lavender honey, a handful of chocolates and candies for my husband. And we could've kept going! I have to go back before I leave to get this pretty bundt cake baking dish and a box of lemon bundt cake mix. And I'm sure I'll end up with a couple other things! This is my first visit to Salem and I'm staying at the Hawthorne. It blew me away how CLOSE everything, including this store, is in this quaint little town. This store is literally steps from Hawthorne, in an adorable area with boutiques, cafés and gift shops, all along a cobble stone street with no cars (perhaps a passing trolley doing a tour). You can take your time. Relax. Meander. Follow the red line and pop into whatever shop speaks to you! It's nice to know that Pamplemousse is not only convenient but also houses amazing, unique items perfect for gifts or for a little treat for yourself. Oh, and the price point is beyond reasonable. pamplemousse is a lovely little store on essex street, right in the thick of the pedestrian mall in salem. unlike many of the witch museums, and witch trinket establishments located around salem, this store is less tourist oriented, and while i stroll around this little shop, and know i don't need something in particular, i often find something at pamlemousse that i couldn't possibly live without. they have it decorated quite nice to each season, and stocked well with wines, meads, and beers to suit whatever you may be in the mood for. beyond kitchen goods and tools, you can also browse through their assortment of lotions, oils, candles, aprons, jewelry, art, and decorations. the people who work at this establishment are always pleasant to speak to and happy to give recommendations. also keep an eye out for their almost weekly events like wine tastings and beer tastings. if you're interested, i hear that later this month they're also holding a harvest festival, which is new for salem, and i am certainly looking forward to it. read more
