I had a first appointment today with Dr Singleton and found her to be super caring, GREAT bedside manner (I'm in perimenopause so I rarely feel good these days, and am easily irritated), she listened thoroughly, wasn't at all in a rush and was truly kind and helpful. She did mention she had gone through quite a lot of medical conditions herself so maybe some of these negative experiences were when she wasn't her best. Had a really bad experience with Dr Singleton when she responded to me as the on-call doctor. She was very rude and unwilling to listen to what I was going through. I don't think she means to cause harm, but she does. We had two visits then switched physicians. I give someone the benefit of the doubt and consider perhaps s/he had a bad day, but the second visit was worse. Our second pregnancy (Obstetrics) visit started with Dr. Singleton hurriedly coming in, no eye contact and apologizing for making us wait. That was not a problem; it's common for physicians to get behind by late afternoon. But soon after that, her Medical Assistant, Altavia knocked gently on the door then slightly opened it. Dr. Singleton stated: "Nope. No! I will not be rushed." Altavia tried to get a word in and Dr. Singleton cut her off saying, "Just tell her to reschedule if she can't wait. She can come back another time." Altavia quietly closed the door and left. Dr. Singleton continued with our visit and eventually said: "Wait, were you given a gown and told to change?" I replied: "No. She (Altavia) asked what kind of visit we did last time then said I should be okay." The doctor responded: "Alright. Here's a gown, I'm gonna need you to change. I'll be back." Then under her breath while walking toward the door the doctor added, "I don't know WHY she can't get it right. No matter how many times I say it ...." Dr. Singleton left the room and I changed into the gown. She returned in a mad rush, couldn't get the baby's heartbeat but said: "Everything's alright? Baby's been kicking every day and everything?" I said: "Yes. No problems. "I also just had an ultrasound the day before. The doctor put her stethoscope on my back and pushed my upper back forward with her hand then told me to lean forward. She said, "I'm gonna need you to lean forward." Now, my legs were outstretched straight forward in front of me on the table. I couldn't lean anymore even though Dr. Singleton tried to push me forward again. Finally she said: "Oh," then went on to move the stethoscope on my back: "Take a deep breath ... let it out." At the end she said: "Okay, I need to check your cervix" but in a way that sounded like an obligation and an annoyance. She shoved her fingers inside and didn't even notice that I closed my eyes and winced from the abrupt pain of her shoved hand inside me. I've Never had a doctor, not even a male doctor, shove their hand so hard into my cervix. When my husband asked a question about the baby being in the 60th percentile for growth, Dr. Singleton wouldn't even acknowledge him with eye contact or a look in his direction, so I stepped in and asked the question again. It was clear that she was so bogged down that she was unable to maintain a social veneer or proper bedside manner in front of patients. It wasn't much better on the first visit. Overall it's going to be a hurried, unfriendly and unpleasant visit with Dr. Singleton. And the thing is, I highly doubt that she started off in medical practice this way. Yet, she's gotten to a point where she's not just robotic in her patient 'care', but it's forced and the care and kindness is checked at the front desk. I would never recommend her to anyone. I do highly recommend she contemplate a two month sabbatical away from pregnant women and children. One where she can breath, relax and recall who she is outside of medicine and why she started in obstetrics and gynecology many years before. read more

This doctor has the worst bedside manner ever. Doesn't listen to your concerns, just does what she wants with no explanation. There's a reason she only has 3 stars. She traumatized me emotionally to where I never went back. I'm sorry I didn't report her to the medical board. She did an unnecessary procedure for something that is diagnosed visually, which left the table I was on, covered in blood! She also didn't stop when I asked her to, which made me cry from lack of control over my own body. I wasn't prepared for the pain, so I needed a deep breath to be able to continue, and to prep my brain for what was to come. She didn't allow me that, she just kept going, against my wishes, while having sharp objects up my hoo-ha. Afterward, she said "wow, I've done hundreds of these procedures, I've never had anybody cry". Welp, lady, childhood sexual trauma will do that to a person! I have never felt as comfortable with an OBGYN as I have with Dr. Singleton. She is down to earth, personable and will not waste time with the BS! I read the bad reviews about her and perhaps she was going through something before but I have been seeing her since 2016 and she was always on point. I have been a patient of Dr. Singleton for over a year now. In fact, she has been my primary OB from the moment I conceived to the moment she delivered my baby two months ago. Therefore, here's my opinion of her: - She is very sweet and really cares about her patients. I was very concerned about a few lab test results, so she actually called me asap once the results are available to let me know. I have seen many doctors, but she is the first one who actually picks up the phone and call you to let you know and address your concerns over the phone. She also tries her best to deliver every of her patients' babies instead of having the on-call doctor do it (which to me is a relief since she knows my health history instead of the on-call doc). I want to clarify that some OBs actually let the on-call ones do it, so that's why Dr. Singleton is great that she tries to deliver every baby herself. - very knowledgeable. She knows what she is doing. I had a vaginal delivery, and according to my family, Dr. Singleton really did a good job cleaning the uterus and stitching the wound. Hence, my recovery was speedy. - as for the negative reviews, yes sometimes she has a very strong opinion about her patient's condition. But come on, she's a doctor. If she doesn't show confidence about her judgment, how can the patient trust her? - she takes time answering your questions/concerns. She also is willing to administer additional lab tests just to make sure everything is all right. Overall I recommend Dr. Singleton. She does have a good bedside manner, is knowledgeable, and really cares about her patients. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Singleton for the past 20+ years. She was recommended to me by a colleague when I first moved out here in 1999. I initially saw her since she was located close by to where I lived and worked on the Peninsula. Because she has been so great, I have stayed with her despite now living in Oakland the past 6 years. Meaning she is worth the commute to me. Over the years, I have seen her many times for embarrassing or urgent needs. She was always very kind towards me. So honestly shocked by some of these comments that her bedside manner is terrible. I disagree! From my experience she was always kind yet honest. IE, would discuss things with me in a frank way but be compassionate towards me. She has never made me feel badly or stupid. For her exams, I have never found her to be brusque or rough in her methodology. I do agree that sometimes the appointments run behind. However, given the OB-GYNs sometimes get called into delivery, it's not unusual. Dr. Singleton also does a lot of volunteer OB-GYN work overseas (Philippines, Mexico). Honestly that impresses me a lot too. For someone to spend their own money to provide free medical services to the less fortunate is clearly someone who does love her line of work and also has a strong sense of charity. She told me I was in good hands, and performed an uncomfortable and awkward procedure and made a shameful and unwarranted remark to me in the presence of a nurse, which I am not free to share here. Didn't like her... I was to see MY doctor but she was out on leave.. I had no choice to but to see someone else... She wasn't as caring as MY doctor... didn't even bother asking how was I doing with my FIRST pregnancy.. they made me wait for an hour and 15 mins because they were running behind schedule ( like its my fault )... and when we got to the room, another 15 mins... when she finally entered, she only stayed with me for 10 mins.. I have nothing but glowing reviews for Dr. Singleton. I've been going to her for the last 2 years and my experience has been the type that one could only hope for with a specialty physician. I met Dr. Singleton during a time in which I needed a caring and compassionate OB/GYN and she went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that I was well taken care of and all of my needs were addressed. Considering the exceptional service I receive from her I have no problem driving from San Francisco to get to her and even if she moved further to the Peninsula I would still make the trek to see her. Most women probably cringe and the thought having to see their OBGYN for an annual visit, not me, this past week I showed up 2 months early......OOPSIE. Nevertheless, Dr. Singleton is always very patient, extremely thorough and she spends a great deal of time making sure you understand your diagnosis, issue the right medications, appropriate next steps, and follow-up. Even though she is not my primary doctor, she's absolutely wonderful during every appointment and gives me the same attention and care to detail that I would get from my primary doctor. Her knowledge in the latest studies is great and she is on top of my best care and interests. In the coming months we will be working on getting pregnant and I look forward to having her involved in every step of the process and wouldn't have it any other way. I anticipate a positive, pleasant and comfortable pregnancy under her care. For me, a trusted OB is critical to a positive birthing experience. Lastly, I wanted to comment on the staff at her office- they are fantastic! Everyone I met and have interacted with have been positive, friendly and warm. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a great OB/GYN and would have the utmost confidence that they would be in good hands and come back with positive feedback. Dr. Pamela Singleton has been my doctor for just about 25 years. She delivered both of my sister's babies, 1 via c-section and she was going to deliver mine as well. I was a high risk pregnancy and she knew that I had to go to UCSF. I came right back to her because SHE is my doctor. Dr. Singleton is the one that gave us the frightening news 10 years ago. She handled it all with us and I will always love her for how she was with my husband and I. Later, I had a cancer scare and she performed the LEAP. She really takes care of me and I know that as long as I never miss an appointment, my life is good in her hands. I normally see Dr. Emily Hu, Dr. Pamela Singleton's colleague.Dr. Hu is out on maternity leave so I had to see Dr. Singleton.I feel that Dr. S is a nice person but I do not recommend her nor would I see her again.I had to see her twice for the same thing and she wasn't much help.I pretty much had to demand more help from her.I wasn't pleased with her services at all! she must be having a bad day. I wasn't supposed to see this doctor but the office made a mistake, my regular doctor was off the day of my appt. so i didn't want to go home and waste my time, i was already there and i need a prescription for my nausea. she probably want to save some time so in front of other people, while i was passing by her in the hallway she asked me my LMP. Less than a minute later after getting inside the room, dr. singleton came inside and gave me a plastic cover and said "she (THE ASSISTANT) wants you to undress waist down and she closed the door right away. without knocking, while i was undressing my self she went inside, noticing i immediately covered myself, no apologies from her. all i have to say is that i'm glad she's not my regular doctor. read more

I will never recommend this woman as a doctor to ANYONE. Not even my worst enemy. She's hands down THE rudest doctor I've encountered at Setons. I saw her twice while my doctor (Dr. Cabrera) was on vacation and each time I questioned why she decided to go into the medical field if she didnt even seem to like people. Each time she was so cold and treated me like just another patient she HAD to see. The first time I saw her, she didn't bother asking me how I was doing. She just came in, introduced herself and told me she was going to takes sample for some test. When I asked her if my baby was still facing head down, she tolu me " I DONT KNOW, I DIDNT CHECK YOUR CERVIX. But once they turn around they stay that way." didn't even think to ask if I wanted her to. Something thought she would be doing, considering I was already 35wks and there for a follow up. She didn't ask me if I had any questions for her, so I had to bring up the fact my hands, feet and face were swollen. But then again, how could see anything was wrong if she didn't even seem like she wanted to look at me. She use said "oh yea, you do look a little swollen." Told me to go home keep my feet elevated over my head and come back Monday. Here's the kicker... She told me "DONT MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ME,MAKE ONE WITH ANOTHER DOCTOR." good thing for her, the feeling was mutual... I didn't want to see her again either. I tried making an appointment with another doctor for around the same time, but got stuck having to see her. Next appointment, I waited an hour for her. A whole hour! I was ok with 30 minutes... Because I've waited that long for my own doctor, But an hour is extremely too long to wait for someone who doesn't seem the bit interested in you or your child is too long. Finally I get to the room have my blood pressure taken by her assistant and it's high. So I lay down wait and while I'm laying there the doors open and Dr. Singleton is walking by, stops at the door, looks at my chart and says "WHY ARE YOU HERE, I TOLD YOU TO SEE ANOTHER DOCTOR." I tried explaining that no one else was available but she interrupted me and said "THERES 5 OTHER DOCTORS IN THIS OFFICE YOU COULD HAVE SEEN." Told me she was admitting me and sent me on my way, like I was just another person she had to see that day. When I lost my baby and had to come in a few times she never stopped by the room to over her condolences, but her medical assistant did. If you are in need of a doctor, don't waste your time with this one. Obviously, I wouldn't give her a star. But since I have to, I'll give her one because her assistant was nice. read more

It's hard to explain, but in some way a doctor becomes part of your family, especially when you have to see him or her more than once a year and you have to discuss a semi serious or serious condition. I have been a patient of Dr. Pamela Singleton since early 2002 and i could honestly say that she is an amazing doctor who sincerely cares about her patients. Dr. Singleton delivered my two wonderful boys via cesarean sections, the first was emergency c-section and the second was elective. Both surgeries went very well without complications. I have a yearly visit with Dr. Singleton and I could still vividly recall my visit on 2/27/17 when she carefully discussed the result of the biopsy. Dr. Singleton communicated the life threatening diagnosis to me and my husband with empathy and compassion. She also referred me to a wonderful surgeon, Dr. Pamela Lewis, who did the lumpectomy a week after the diagnosis. I really appreciate it so much that Dr. Singleton did a couple of follow up phone calls and checked how I was doing during my treatments. Then, in September 2017 when my husband and I did a consultation with her, Dr. Singleton listened to my concerns and went above and beyond her call of duty when she took us to another room and arranged the schedule of the prophylactic surgery with the office staff. As expected, the surgery was successfully done and the recovery went pretty fast. That just showed that Dr. Singleton is very caring, efficient, knowledgeable and professional. The one and only time I saw her, she diagnosed me with something I had never heard of before. I was on my SECOND question about her diagnosis when she interrupted me and barked, "you aren't listening to me!" and told me there was nothing she could do for me. I'm so glad I got a second opinion because her diagnosis was wrong. My symptoms cleared up and have never returned. She should not be practicing medicine. read more

My doctor was not available that day so I was assigned Dr. Singleton. She seemed like she didn't care about me or my pregnancy...maybe because I am not her patient? Still...not excusable? After waiting for 30 minutes she walks in the room and doesn't even introduce herself or look at my charts or even ask how my pregnancy is going? She simply pulls up my shirt and checks the baby's heart beat in a matter of seconds...She has no patient or bedside manner. I had a few questions and she made me feel very stupid for asking and simply had an attitude like I was an inconvenience and that she wanted to go home for the day. I've seen Doctor Singleton twice now and both times the experience was consistent to the bad reviews you already see here. She might be nicer if you've seen her longer or she's your primary OB, but my first visit was one minute long and the second was nearly thirty seconds, to which I had to try and stop her going out the door because I didn't get a chance to ask questions or discuss my concerns. When I did, she was dismissive (not the same as being straight to the point). I know all the doctors are super busy, but she literally came in the room and said a few straight to the point things and immediately rushed out without ever making any eye contact or pretending to seem caring or interested in myself, my health or my baby. I'm really glad she wasn't the one to deliver my baby. Being pregnant or postpartum and ramped up on hormones, I can see how some women would describe their visits "traumatizing". I don't think she realizes how hurtful her perceived manner is. That or it's completely deliberate. All the other doctors and staff there are much better. read more

I wish I had seen the other reviews before making the appointment, the doctor was not interested in seeing me or helping me at all, her assistant asked all the questions and was very nice then the doctor came in said three words to me and said my prescription was ready, did not even look at me examine me or took the time to listen to my concerns, when I asked about hormonal acne she acted as if I was stupid and crazy and completely disregard the subject. I went to Dr. Singleton a few years ago (yes, this is a long time coming), and for some reason I never thought to write a review.. So alas, here I am, somehow I was reminded of my somewhat traumatizing experience with her. I was looking into switching birth control, and at the time I had recently found through some tests that I had HPV (common in young women). As I read through the negative reviews on Dr. Singleton below me, I cant help but totally agree with the "rude.. mildly traumatizing experience" others have had. At first I thought she was just having a bad day.. but nope, this woman is just somewhat psycho. I have no idea why you would go into a profession where you meet women everyday who need your help and advice, yet treat them like absolute crap, disregard their desires and questions, and have absolutely no value system for anything outside typical western medicine (lets be honest, Seton is not known for it's world class doctors, but still). I was shocked when she told me that if I didn't go on this specific birth control I had a 100% chance of getting cervical cancer (?!?!) and when I brought up concerns or questions I was COMPLETELY shut down and made to feel like I was totally stupid and had no idea how to take care of myself or knew anything about health. I was literally shocked after the first appointment, not sure how I should react.. because I had crappy insurance at the time I went back to go see her for a second visit (I should have switched doctors) and the second experience was just as bad as the first. As I write this now I'm even getting mad, thinking about the awful experience. If you want a doctor who gives absolutely no f#$%s about you or your health and is entirely concerned with whatever is stuck up her a$$, makes you feel terrible about yourself and treats you like crap, then Dr. Singleton is the perfect gynecologist for you. Trust me on this one, find another doctor. If you are going to Seton, Dr. Shapiro is great, I'd seek her out first. read more
