Dr. Pamela D. Singleton of Bay Area Obstetrics & Gynecology
    Candice K.

I don't think she means to cause harm, but she does. We had two visits then switched physicians. I give someone the benefit of the doubt and consider perhaps s/he had a bad day, but the second visit was worse. Our second pregnancy (Obstetrics) visit started with Dr. Singleton hurriedly coming in, no eye contact and apologizing for making us wait. That was not a problem; it's common for physicians to get behind by late afternoon. But soon after that, her Medical Assistant, Altavia knocked gently on the door then slightly opened it. Dr. Singleton stated: "Nope. No! I will not be rushed." Altavia tried to get a word in and Dr. Singleton cut her off saying, "Just tell her to reschedule if she can't wait. She can come back another time." Altavia quietly closed the door and left. Dr. Singleton continued with our visit and eventually said: "Wait, were you given a gown and told to change?" I replied: "No. She (Altavia) asked what kind of visit we did last time then said I should be okay." The doctor responded: "Alright. Here's a gown, I'm gonna need you to change. I'll be back." Then under her breath while walking toward the door the doctor added, "I don't know WHY she can't get it right. No matter how many times I say it ...." Dr. Singleton left the room and I changed into the gown. She returned in a mad rush, couldn't get the baby's heartbeat but said: "Everything's alright? Baby's been kicking every day and everything?" I said: "Yes. No problems. "I also just had an ultrasound the day before. The doctor put her stethoscope on my back and pushed my upper back forward with her hand then told me to lean forward. She said, "I'm gonna need you to lean forward." Now, my legs were outstretched straight forward in front of me on the table. I couldn't lean anymore even though Dr. Singleton tried to push me forward again. Finally she said: "Oh," then went on to move the stethoscope on my back: "Take a deep breath ... let it out." At the end she said: "Okay, I need to check your cervix" but in a way that sounded like an obligation and an annoyance. She shoved her fingers inside and didn't even notice that I closed my eyes and winced from the abrupt pain of her shoved hand inside me. I've Never had a doctor, not even a male doctor, shove their hand so hard into my cervix. When my husband asked a question about the baby being in the 60th percentile for growth, Dr. Singleton wouldn't even acknowledge him with eye contact or a look in his direction, so I stepped in and asked the question again. It was clear that she was so bogged down that she was unable to maintain a social veneer or proper bedside manner in front of patients. It wasn't much better on the first visit. Overall it's going to be a hurried, unfriendly and unpleasant visit with Dr. Singleton. And the thing is, I highly doubt that she started off in medical practice this way. Yet, she's gotten to a point where she's not just robotic in her patient 'care', but it's forced and the care and kindness is checked at the front desk. I would never recommend her to anyone. I do highly recommend she contemplate a two month sabbatical away from pregnant women and children. One where she can breath, relax and recall who she is outside of medicine and why she started in obstetrics and gynecology many years before.

She gives lots of guidance, education and options for her patients, and is strict on non-negotiable things to ensure we get better. The last time I saw her I was 38 weeks pregnant and I almost cried seeing her because I just felt so safe and seen. The only thing I don't like about Dr. Zeng is how tired she looks and how tirelessly she gives to her patients. It pains me to see her work so hard and I hope all her patients know how rare her type of doctor is, how great she is and appreciates her and her wonderful team.

I was "never" provided with these instructions and I had to reschedule because she said I didn't follow the instructions I was "never" provided. Then after waiting two months and rescheduling my appointment, Doctor Cabrera had me waiting 40 minutes in the lobby and when she finally saw me, she asked me if I had read the instructions prior to the visit. What instructions? None! After asking her when she emailed the instructions, she stayed quiet and instead explained the procedure in that moment. After she explained the procedure I decided not to proceed because it was not what I expected. She left the room and as I was changing, she came back to the room to show me a message on mychart she send me with the instructions back in May 2024, its SEPTEMBER! As a patient, am I seriously expected to go back to all my messages on Mychart to know what I'm getting myself into? I honestly don't know how she has high ratings. The lack of communication from her is absurd. Waste of time and huge disappointment!

Initially I was apprehensive about seeking cafe from such a large treatment team with the understanding that any one could deliver my baby when the time came. However, I felt the care I received was responsive, timely, really thorough and informed. They didn't leave me in the dark when I had questions and they were always straight forward with me when I had concerns. Come delivery time, they were equally responsive. I had a team of residents supervised by a midwife deliver my baby, they did an excellent job! The nurses in postpartum care were also equally caring and informed - I loved how they all knew that we had a 5 year old waiting for us at home. I just can't say enough good things about the prenatal care. The lactation consultants also are equally amazing and if you schedule an appointment to meet with them they take a fully 1.5 hrs with you to help trouble shoot what issues you may have. They really are amazing. The only issue I have - and this seems to be a national one, not just related to UCSF - is that the post partum cafe is definitely lacking. I felt really forced to wait u til my 6 week appointment to see any of the MDs or NPs for a concern. They tend to bump these issues to an advice nurse and even then I felt somewhat unsettled.

They said it was something new and they were the only hospital in the area doing this. I wasn't really thrilled about it but my husband wanted to do it since this was his first child. We signed up and were put in Susan Seger's group on Wednesday mornings. I wasn't sure if this would work out since on appointment days I would only be able to work half a day since meetings were from 9-11am, but my job was ok with it so off we went. They give you a book for your pregnancy where you can track your weight and bp. You go in the appointment and they have snacks. You weight yourself and do your own bp and then write it down in your chart. It's run by a midwife and she would see a few people before group started and then a few during break. I actually ended up really liking the group environment. You go in once and month and talk about how your feeling, symptoms your experiencing, and how your baby is progressing. The midwife answers questions but also asks people for their opinions on things. Its nice being able to talk with other pregnant people about being pregnant and see how they are handling things. They teach you stretches that help with pregnancy related pains. They explain about all the different birthing options UCSF offers and pain management options for labor. They also explain about all of the classes UCSF offers as well. There is no stupid question there and they will answer anything you are wondering or concerned about. Towards the end of pregnancy you start going twice a month. This was definitely a different experience from having my son and just going to a dr visit and being checked, asked if I had any questions and being sent on my way. I don't think I would do this again when I do have another child, but it was a nice experience and I think it's a great thing if your having your first kid. Susan was great and I would recommend her to anyone using the Woman's clinic in daly city. She seemed to have a lot of experience. The only thing that kinda sucked is she isn't able to be there for your birth unless you have your baby while she is on duty in L&D.
