I absolutely feel the most comfortable and well taken care of by Dr. Rittenhouse. I've seen Dr. Cabrera and Dr. Hu throughout my whole pregnancy but I feel the most knowledgeable with Dr. Rittenhouse. I would refer him to all my soon to be pregnancy friends/family, absolutely. He throughly reads your reports and your past history of pregnancy (or other issues you may have) and walks through what happened, what you could've done, and what we can do moving forward. I had a c-section with my first child, 7 years ago, now that I'm trying to push for a VBAC he's the only doctor that's been thorough and concise with planning for procedures. With complications, I truly feel he has taken more steps than any doctor has for me, he truly cares. It's not just a quick visit, it's a visit with tracking down what you want, feel, and making notes on what's best for you and baby. I'm so glad I was put with Rittenhouse only because my doctor was on vacation, I was nervous about having a male doctor but he makes you comfortable, effortlessly! He's very clear and straight to the point, so I'm assuming a lot of people don't take that well-- or take it the wrong way? Dr. Rittenhouse was the OB on call when I had to have a C section due to my labor not progressing. I genuinely could not be happier with the outcome. He looked me in the eye in the OR and said "we'll get the baby out and have you walking tomorrow" and that's exactly what he did. My recovery could not have been any smoother. I never had any pain during the recovery (took ibuprofen for 2 weeks and then stopped taking it completely) and was walking the next day. I don't think vaginal delivery recovery could have been any easier, so I am extremely happy with my C section. Absolutely fantastic surgeon. read more

I first met Dr. Rittenhouse when I was pregnant with my second child in 2004. Not only is he a professional and knowledgeable physician, but he also has an excellent bedside manner and really listens to his patients. The experience with Dr. Rittenhouse throughout my pregnancy and delivery process was exceptional! Since then, he has been my Gynecologist and every time I have had any concerns, he has been very prompt and thorough in his response to me. I once told his staff, "If anything was ever to go wrong with my health, I would go to him first because I have complete faith in him." I love, love, love my OB-GYN doctor! Dr. Rittenhouse has it all. He is professional, gentle, calm, knowledgeable, and honest with great bed-side manners. He has one of the best smiles that I have seen, which helps when you are nervous. I was a surrogate mother, and I was so glad when I found out he was fully knowledgeable in surrogacy!! My case was given to Dr.Rittenhouse about 2 weeks before my due date because I decided to deliver at CPMC instead of Seton. Despite the fact he was *just* given my case, Dr. Rittenhouse was very kind and attentive toward me. I requested induction and he set up a day for me to be admitted and even attended my delivery (even though the nurse told me he was not on call). I was in search of a new OB doctor and came to Dr. Rittenhouse because I had heard his name from a friend at work, and also because he specializes in numerous things. When I first met him, I could tell he was a doc who definitely knew his stuff. At the first visit, I had my annual "things" done and went on with life. About a month later, I found out I was pregnant and have since then been coming to see him once a month for my pre-natal appointments. He is very attentive and def has an open ear to all my questions and concerns, just like a doctor should. He always gives actual ANSWERS too, rather than beating around the bush like a lot of doctors do. The only downfall w/ Dr. Rittenhouse is he seems to be so popular and busy, that I always get a call from the office telling me to reschedule because he' has a surgery to do during my scheduled appointment time. So far, I've had to reschedule 3 appointments w/ him, but at least they have given me appointments for the same day, just later in the afternoon rather than in the morning. The staff is pretty friendly and organized. Wait times can get a bit lengthy on some days, but I think that's what it takes sometimes to see a good doctor. I'll be delivering this baby (my second) the end of Oct. and will update my review then...EEK! I'm excited! read more

I only scheduled an appointment with Dr.Rittenhouse because the doctor I was referred to see was not available for weeks. I do not recommend coming here. They claimed that my bacterial culture results were normal, also convinced the rest of the staff that it was normal and commonly seen in women. They almost convinced me too... Had another appointment because I was suffering from the symptoms. Dr.Rittenhouse was no help, still claiming it was normal so I decided to get a 2nd opinion. Dr. Rittenhouse was truly amazing. I couldn't be more happy with my decision to make him my primary OB-GYN. I've been having bleeding issues for a few months, and was really freaking out about it. I had never met him before either, him being my new Doctor, so I was nervous about that as well but he instantly made me feel more relaxed, and put some fears at ease through the entire examination process. He was calm, collected, incredibly nice, and welcoming. He was confident in his abilities as a doctor and he was attentive to me and willing to answer any questions or concerns that I had. When I first started seeing Dr. Rittenhouse, I was a bit hesitant given some of the reviews; however, after a few visits, he really grew on me as a provider. Some people people may not like his demeanor/approach, but I would rather have a doctor who tells it like it is, than one who sugarcoats everything. Yes, there are times where he can be blunt, but he does care and definitely has the knowledge and experience to get you through whatever you're going through/experiencing whether it be a pregnancy, miscarriage, persistent bleeding, etc. I really appreciate how Dr. Rittenhouse does not force you into doing something you don't want to do. He respects and supports whatever decision you make. Moreover, he also takes his time, does not rush and answers any and every question you may have. If I hadn't gotten pregnant and feared giving birth on the Bay Bridge during rush hour, I probably would have made the drive down to Daly City from Concord just to see him. The office isn't perfect, and I had my run-ins with being forgotten in the exam room, the office being closed when I made an appointment, etc. All the usual medical office flubs. He was successful in leaving part of the placenta in the uterus DURING A C-SECTION. This brought my wife to the hospital with a hemorrhage two weeks after delivery. Cold blood (no anesthesia) uterus cleaning in the emergency room performed by the on-call doctor and periodic problems for the following 18 years. He was lucky we weren't aware of the fact that we could have sued him... Pretty naive, huh? read more

Dr.Rittenhouse is very knowledgable,professional, caring. He is Awesome!!!! I ve been under his care for the last 18 years or so. So this review is waaay overdue. Dr. Rittenhouse took care of my 3 pregnancies and deliver 2 of my babies. One of the significant differences from other Drs. Is the fact that Dr. Rittenhouse doesn't sugar coat anything he is frank and honest, he does not rush his appointments he takes the time to explain things to his patients( like in my case more than once) that resulted in a very high level of trust from me towards whatever it was he was suggesting for my care. Most recently I had to have surgery and Of course when it came to deciding on my Dr. There was no question on my mind as to who will perform such. When Being under his care you feel like he really cares and you learn to trust him, after I came home from the hospital I had follow up calls from him to check up on me. He is truly gifted and takes great pride in what he does. Christina his medical assistant is also wonderful very personal And friendly. Caitlin from scheduling and accounts payable worked with me to scheduled my surgery when it was a busy time for me at work but to be able to get it done during a period in which my insurance had already approved the treatment. I started seeing doctor Rittenhouse when I found out that I was pregnant. I initially went to another doctor who was not a good fit. It was taking me a while to get an appointment anywhere due to covid but doctor Rittenhouse's office took me asap. They got me caught up on all the labs I needed and made sure I was taking the right vitamins and supplements. Whenever I would have discomfort in my pregnancy he offered solutions. His medical assistant is super helpful and friendly. Doctor Rittenhouse is very straight forward and direct. It's a quality I appreciated going through the processes. He is always available via text. He made sure he was there for my delivery and when it became more complicated than expected he helped my husband and I make the best decisions possible. He performed my c section and delivered us a healthy baby. He also checked on us several times in the hospital and via text when we went home. Again, he isn't a coddling doctor but he is very knowledgeable and I felt cared for as his patient. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Dr. Rittenhouse was the emergency room doctor on call when I wad brought in, 3 years ago, to Seton hospital. I was about 5 months pregnant and experiencing significant bleeding. I was terrified for my unborn baby and didn't know what to expect. I was brought in by ambulance from work and had my husband meet me. During Dr. Rittenhouse's initial exam, I was tense with worry and fear. That was when he told me to relax unless I wanted it to hurt. I still couldn't relax and that's when he said, "I guess you must want it to hurt." Needless to say, he was cold and unnecessarily rude until he found out what I did for a living. He lacks compassion and obviously doesn't enjoy his job. read more

Bad doctor, rude staff, no information provided, huge unexpected bill for services I never should have gotten nor wanted. Absolutely horrible experience. I went to Dr. Rittenhouse as a first time expecting mother knowing very little about what to do, what options I had (i.e. genetic testing, birthing options, etc), or where to even begin preparing. He was a nice enough person, but after leaving his office, I realized that he had given me NO information, answered NO questions for me and had offered NO help. On my second visit, he told me that I had to get on the phone to make an appointment for blood tests, giving me the impression that it was imperative and mandatory. When the genetic counselor called a couple of days later, I was then informed that it was all optional...but because of his negligence, I received a $162 bill for genetic testing that I didn't even want after I had the proper information. Bottom line, he gave me no help, was impersonal and forgot that there was a person behind the sonogram monitor that needed some personal attention...I would NEVER return to him nor would I recommend him to my worst enemy. On top of it all, aside from one very nice lady who greets people at the front desk, the rest of the office staff were absolutely rude and infuriating, especially Anne who always made me feel as if I were an idiot for calling her appointment line. When your mother is 84 years old and comes down with an infection and by this age has stopped seeing OBGYN's, what's a daughter to do? I was referred to Dr. Rittenhouse through her GP and his office took her instantly- thank goodness for she had a raging UTI infection and a pretty bad abscess that needed immediate surgical treatment. Dr. R was kind to her for she was nervous and scared and very helpful through the process getting her into the hospital. As an observer, I find Dr. Rittenhouse a good listener, someone who follows through and tries to go the extra mile, if he can, to help. His nurse Christina is a gem and very kind to an older woman who is just scared and lost. My son will be 3 in August, but I still wanted to write a review, he did a great job delivering him! He was my OBGYN I didn't think I could switch to him because I think I was towards the end of my first trimester but he took me on as his patient. We had to have a C-Section, and he was very quick.(I'm not sure how fast it went, it was my first) I highly recommend him. I'm not sure what it is, but I find a man is different than a woman dr. Some women I've experienced are more judge mental. Like there was a female dr, the other dr I forgot her name and she came in after the delivery and asked me if I wanted more children. Or She asked me how many more children was a planning on? Like excuse me? Have I met you? I guess since I have a c section now I can't have too many more kids. However Dr. Rittenhouse never said those words to me, but I never asked him. Doctors out there need to stop giving advice to people who are not their patients!!! Just because you have the title does not give you the right to say anything you want. I took offense to her and should have complained. Speak up at the time! read more
