The absolute worst contractor that I had to deal with during our gut renovation. I had Ian at Piton…read moreinstall 2 new units in our total gut renovation. 1 central Air for the 1/2nd Floor and 1 split system for the basement. During the initial phase of construction, they showed up to work in the nights (assuming after normal work hours). I did not mind this as the house was fully opened and it was a clear path for them to do their work without anyone in their way. They roughed in all the ductwork and we were moving along fine. When electrical and plumbing was finished we started Sheetrock. I contacted Piton to bring in the condensers for outside and continue the job. From this point is where the problem started. They brought the condensers and had them sitting the garage for weeks. They took weeks to get back in to resume the job. They finally came back after about 2 weeks and installed both units and finished running the pipes. It was now time to power up and test. We started with the Central Air condenser, they spent days trying to figure out how to get it running. Came to find out there was a broken part. They got the part swiftly and repaired the unit. After this and filling up the gas, the unit still would not work at all. They left that evening and did not come back for weeks. I called and texted Ian many times over this time frame as to not be annoying yet assertive. I eventually got exhausted of calling and told Ian I would have someone else come finish the job. He text me back that they would show up tomorrow. They never showed up that day, or any other day that week. I spoke to another contractor and got the main central Air unit running. $450 later we had cold air. After this, Ian did come back once more to install vent covers and measure the return vent size because it was not standard. They took a look at the unit in the attic as well as the split in basement. Unfortunately they couldn't do anything in the basement because they left the controller in the other work van. That night after they were in the attic, I heard water dripping, but I did not see anything. I decided to investigate in the attic because I know the blower is right above the room I was In. As soon as I got into the attic I noticed the drip pan was full of water and overflowing onto the Sheetrock and insulation and running along the beams. I went to the living room on the first floor and noticed the water had run down the beams and been dripping through the ceiling on the first floor. I quickly turned off the unit, but it still dripped. I had to go into the attic with a bucket and dish to scoop out the overflowing water out of the pan. I text him pictures as soon I Was done and his response was "don't use the unit". Too late Ian, the damage is already done. Of course I'm not going to use the unit. The next night they showed up and investigated. Ian realized there was a valve of some sort missing that diverted the water from the unit to a pipe that leads outside AND the cutoff switch that is placed on the drip pan was missing. They came back a few days later and installed those parts. During the time when they were working on the split system, I happened to be around and heard a loud "pop". I immediately knew something was wrong. My basement unit is still not functional. The contractor who came to fix the main unit told me what they did wrong was was pretty sure they blew the board on the split system. He told me he didn't want to touch it unless Piton completely disappears on me due to warranty issues. Ian keeps telling me he will come tomorrow, then the next day, and so on now he's just not responding to me at all. He has left without the mini spit working correctly and vents missing on the 1st/2nd floors for MONTHS now. This has caused a major inconvenience because I can't move my stuff from storage into my basement ($400/month) and I can't clean up the basement until they finish cutting for the return and running the remaining vent work. All I want is my system fixed. I have NOT been ignorant, belligerent and have given him the benefit of the doubt every single time. It's finally come to the point where I have to leave this negative review because he is non responsive. Even if he just told me, "I can't finish the job" at least I would know what to do and move on. Seriously disappointed in Ian and Piton Mechanical. They have caused us nothing but grief and wasted outlets time over and over again.

Reached out in May to get my PTAC unit fixed. Set appointment for June 2nd. He comes and says that it is a faulty condenser motor. I follow up for the next few two days to no avail. When I do hear back, he wouldn't honor Yelp deal because it was "new customers only" -- despite never having been a customer of his and finding him on Yelp (but this is the absolute least of the issues). I try calling them on the phone during business hours, no answer. End up getting the PTAC repaired. PTAC unit seems to be working fine. Unfortunately, stops working again come October. Had an appointment for October 20th at 1pm. On Oct 19th at 2pm, I received an email saying they had to reschedule my appointment and could come the following morning (so earlier than our 1pm appointment) or the 21st. I replied 1 hour later at 3pm saying I had already rearranged my schedule so I'd be available on a Wednesday at 1pm, but I'd try. I said 10:45am would be OK after rearranging my schedule again. No reply. The following morning at 10:55am they saying they "apologize we couldn't confirm the appointment today [for 10:45am]". Yeah, I clearly knew you were unable to confirm it since 10:45am had come and gone. I said I could do the 21st at 4pm -- once against rearranging my schedule to be home on the middle of a work day. I called Ian and confirmed that this would be OK. I told them 4pm would work as long as no noise or equipment. No word that this was not ok with Piton. What happens again? 4pm comes and goes. I get an email at 5:30pm saying "sorry for the inconvenience" and explaining how they give windowed time appointments. Note: I was NOT given a time window. I was confirmed for 4:00pm sharp. Also in the midst of all of this, Ian and Anthony would almost never answer the phone during business hours. I finally had to call from a different number just to get him to pick up. Funny how he would pick up immediately when he thought it was new business. After all the issues, excuses, and back and forth, I finally get my PTAC unit working. The next May, it starts acting up again though. Emailed on May 18th. No reply. Email on May 22nd. No reply. Finally hear back on May 25th (one full week later). He tells me he could do the 30th. I reply saying I could do 4pm that day. No reply. I email 4 days later again. No reply. I email 3 more times. No reply. Finally, 9 days after his last response, he says he hasn't forgotten about me, they're very busy, and if my service is urgent to contact other providers. Keep in mind, I'm trying to get a repair of HIS failed repair which is supposedly covered under a 1 year warranty. Hence why I'm still dealing with him. Finally set a new 8-9am appointment for June 11st. He never showed (shocker, I know). Set another appointment for June 13th, 9-11am. He actually showed up! Told me he would order the parts. June 17th I email asking if he got info on parts. New appointment set for June 21st. Did not show up. This is now the THIRD time he has completely not showed for an appointment. Three times I've taken off work just to get my AC fixed. I email on June 22nd asking why her doesn't honor his appointments. No reply. I email June 28th. No reply. I email June 30th. No reply. I email July 6th saying I've had it. If he did not email, text, or call me I would finally leave the incredibly well deserved negative review I should have left months ago. I remind him I've taken THREE personal days from work, his first repair lasted 3 months, his second lasted 1 month, and now I've spend 6 weeks trying to get my AC fixed again. Guess what? He manages to reply within 2 hours. Stunning. What does he have to say? He says "we are no longer interested in your project". He says my previous email was a threat. Because how dare I actually stand up for my self for months of repeated dismissal, lies, and terrible service. I end up finding another provider, who was recommended by my building. They came and looked at the unit. They told me the replacement motor Ian used was not compatible with the rest of the system (incorrect RPM / HP / amps) and that it never should have been installed. Again, shocker. This was actually a concern of mine, and I asked Ian if the mismatching motor specs would be an issue. He told me it would not be a problem. I have the voice recording to prove this. I messaged a few other customers of theirs on Yelp and they had a very similar experience to me. Happy to share any of the emails in their entirety with anyone who wants proof. Do not waste your time on these so called "professionals" who possess neither the technical skill to even properly repair PTAC units, nor the customer service required to run a business.

I shared approved Dept of Buildings plans and supervisor came out for a walk-through and verbally quoted me $20,000, saying as he left he'd write the detailed proposal based on his $20,000 verbal quote. However, when he emailed his proposal the price shot up 92.3% to $38,460.00! I emailed back to get justification, but never received a response to the exorbitant markup from the verbalized quote at my house. I wanted to know why Harris would not honor the $20,00 I was quoted during the site visit? I have been a repeat client of this business paying $1000s at each of their visits to do my plumbing work, and was told that because of this fact, I'd get a slight discount on my renovation proposal for the plumbing aspect. But a 92.3% markup from original quote of $20,000 is extortion, fraud and just bad business practice to say the very least! I found out also that they don't come out and tell you that they charge a discharge/service fee to come out, but $150/per hour of travel time is quietly--not disclosed to customer--added to their bills, yet never disclosed to you upfront. They were coming from the office location in Brownsville and I'm all the way down south on Avenue Z in Sheepshead Bay and they must take the side streets to get to me because commercial vehicles are not permitted on the Belt Parkway. I will stop being a repeat loyal customer to Harris Plumbing and Heating and will not refer them to anyone else ever again. I'll be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau also. When I messaged them about this, the provider deduced that the error had come from me and that I had rescheduled the visit through Yelp. This was not the case, and when I asked for evidence of this occurrence, I was provided with nothing but a vague explanation about privacy concerns. Instead, the provider blamed Yelp and me for the scheduling error they created. I do not care if there was an error, but I do care about the lack of accountability on their part. The three things I look for when hiring a company are Accountability, Trust, and Reliability, all of which were absent in my limited interaction with this company. I decided not to go with this company for my project simply because if we can't get the scheduling and communication down right, then what horrors lie ahead when the work gets underway?

It was none of that, its was a simple $15 part that had failed (capacitor) a week with no AC later I ended up replacing it myself. Pro tip if the fan is not spinning 90% of the time its the capacitor ask any real AC tech. He charged me $1000 for a fan replacement that didnt need it, lied about it being a "special" part, DO NOT trust this guy, he is either really bad at fixing AC units or lies and rips you off.
