Lots of people brought their own food (some with full on dinners and dessert). You can buy food there also. We had lots of fun. We'll definitely come back and see other shows. The lobby is quite comfortable and has a lot of artifacts showing the amazing history of the resort. Will probably take a few visits to go through it all. One last thing. They made an error on their schedule which resulted in me having tickets on two different dates of the same event. Rather than send an email, they personally called me and gave me options that quickly resolved the issue! Although we've been guests at Welk's Theater for just over a year, I sure wish I had known about them sooner...

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing from start to finish…read more Check-in was advertised for 4:00 p.m., but we didn't get our room until nearly 8:30 p.m., costing us hours of the vacation we paid for. Throughout our stay, we requested basic necessities like fresh towels and soap refills, but they never arrived despite multiple requests. On checkout day, housekeeping walked into our room at 9:00 a.m., a full hour before the 10:00 a.m. checkout, while we were still getting dressed. Our privacy was completely disregarded. I was also repeatedly singled out because of my service dog. Multiple employees yelled, "You better clean up after your dog," even though I was visibly carrying waste bags and had done nothing wrong. It was humiliating and showed a lack of training on how to appropriately interact with guests who use service animals. To make matters worse, I unexpectedly started my period and needed pads before the gift shop opened. Because the resort had no way to help and the trams were so unreliable, I had to walk all the way down the steep hill just to get basic hygiene supplies. For a resort of this size, that level of guest support is unacceptable. The most concerning part of our stay was the Russian tortoise in the kids' center. I am the founder of The Wise Frog Reptile Rescue and have spent more than 11 years rescuing and rehabilitating reptiles. The tortoise appeared to lack proper UVB and heat, and its shell was in alarming condition. I brought my concerns to staff, but they showed little interest in addressing them. My children were heartbroken because they immediately recognized the animal appeared to be in distress. An animal should never be displayed for children if its welfare is being overlooked. Between the delayed check-in, ignored requests, lack of privacy, treatment over my service dog, unreliable transportation, and concerns about animal welfare, this resort fell far short of the experience we expected. I hope management takes these issues seriously and makes meaningful changes for both guests and the animals in their care

But, light comedy that is usually quite fun. The most recent example is "Scapin" adapted from Moliere, which is a delightful romp with great characters, and fast pacing. Many lighting cues were missed and several times the house lights came up for no reason at all. Additionally there is no assigned seating so you have to line up early if you want a decent seat. To the production: The sets and costumes were fine. Everything else was not. This was billed as an adult production, yet most of the cast was high schoolers with little to no previous experience. One actor playing Mrs. Lovett was good. The rest ranged from passable to laughable. If it had been advertised as a high school or amateur production I would have understood, but paying $25/ticket I think I have the right to expect more. The cast needed to learn theater etiquette. I've never, even in a school production, seen cast members run out to the lobby during intermission to say hi to their friends. To cap it off, intermission ended with a couple of the cast members literally BEGGING for money. It was distasteful. I've read that other attendees actually LEFT at intermission. I probably would have as well, had I not been on a date. Finally, for some unexplained reason they dual cast the show, having most actors play a lead one night and ensemble the next. The only reason I can think of for doing this was so that everyone can feel good about themselves. That's fine if you're in an acting class, but shouldn't happen in a paid production. They really could have used the extra polish that having a single cast would have afforded them. I've read many other reviews that have indicated this is a fairly normal experience for this location. Given that they're under the auspices of Moonlight, I'm quite surprised. I won't be going back here again.

The vocals were maybe a hair low, but that's based on a three-man band so I dunno how they'd check a bigger act. Volume not high enough to merit earplugs when standing just in front of the sound booth, but might have been close to necessary by the stage. System sounds pretty clear and well balanced overall. 2. Temperature: Eugh... Warm, oppressively so. Dunno if the AC was broken or just off, but it got toasty considering it was a show where most of the crowd were pretty static and there was solely a headline and no support sets. Outside temperature wasn't oppressive either, seemed worse than similar sized venues. 3. Plenty of parking for (what still seems to me an excessive amount of) $20 outside. Traffic getting out was chaos, with people cutting queues and nobody organizing egress until the actual gate.

I was disappointed on several levels: First and foremost, the quality of the comedians was mediocre at best! The crowd rarely laughed and when they did laugh, it was weak and unenthusiastic. I recently attended Jim Gaffigan's performance and laughed my ass off (and I don't laugh easily). Secondly, I got to the Fair a few hours early to see some exhibits and get dinner. When I presented my ticket at the main gate, I was told I needed a different ticket to enter the Fair. The gate agent referred me to her supervisor who said this problem has been happening all day to other guests. The supervisor directed out of line and to the Box Office. The Box Office agent said she could not help me even though I showed her my official eTicket to the Comedy event. She directed me to the far end of the fairgrounds to get my ticket to the Fair from The Sound box office.

He insisted the adult men volunteers put envelopes in their pants and at one point held a handkerchief over one man's private parts and the handkerchief raised as if the man was aroused. This trick went on for several minutes implying what one man had in his pants was being transferred to the other man's "region". Again... remember this is in front of a room with children. I was so disturbed and felt terrible for the parents who spent lots of money (our 2 tickets were $90!) On this show only to have their children exposed to lewd suggestive magic. Deeply disturbed by this show and have reviewed the other locations of reviews where apparently this has gone on for way too long and they continue despite parents complaining. If you remove that part of the show heres my review of the rest- while Anthony and his team seem like nice people. This show was not good. There was a few tricks that were good but the majority weren't. Very expensive and unpleasant evening.

The entire resort was gorgeous, and there was so much to do that we were satisfied, and the kids enjoyed themselves. Once, we ventured out of the resort to visit Ocean Beach. We made a reservation to see Anthony Hernandez on Saturday, July 24th, at 7:00 p.m. Anthony and his team are fantastic. Anthony's had everyone laughing crazy. LOL, I was moved to tears by his grandfather's story. His magic show is well worth of the money. If anyone stays at Welk Resorts in Escondido, make a reservation to see Anthony Hernandez the Magician; we highly recommend Anthony Hernandez; he will not disappoint you or your family.
