Absolutely horrible, unprofessional, disorganized and the icing on the cake- I paid for services that weren't provided.

I am an adult driver (40+) who has always lived in the city and never driven prior to this school…read more I enrolled in the beginner private lesson package which I found from googling adult driving school reviews. I was initially nervous when I saw that multiple instructors would be working with me. After I emailed them with my worry, they called very quickly to explain the benefit of learning from different instructors, something that ultimately helped me feel prepared for the road test since you never know which examiner you'll get. Every instructor I drove with was patient, professional, and clearly invested in both my safety and my success. As an adult learning to drive in this city, I can't recommend this school highly enough.

Inconsistent, Unprofessional, and Ultimately a Waste of Time & Money…read more I am writing this review on behalf of my father, a retired military Veteran from India, who just completed 7 lessons with Brookline Driving School. Unfortunately, his experience was overwhelmingly disappointing and I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere. Our primary issue was the complete lack of consistency between instructors. He had at least three different teachers, primarily switching between Ervin and Vitaly. While Ervin was patient and seemed to genuinely enjoy teaching, the same cannot be said for his counterpart. Vitaly was, frankly, obnoxious. He lacked basic respect for his students, was often loud and visibly frustrated, creating an environment where my father felt intimidated and unable to ask questions. If you don't have the patience for this job, why are you in it? To make matters worse, he made uncalled-for and stereotypical "jokes" about Indians being bad drivers, which was completely unprofessional and offensive. The biggest practical problem arose from this inconsistency. Ervin and Vitaly taught completely different techniques for parallel parking. One would say to do it one way, and the next lesson, the other would contradict it. This constant change in instruction confused my father daily and shattered his confidence. The culmination of this failure was on his road test. He failed specifically because of the parallel parking maneuver. The conflicting advice from his own instructors left him unsure of the correct method, leading to a critical error. I hold Brookline Driving School 100% responsible for this. We are cutting our losses and heeding our neighbors' recommendation to try Waltham Driving School instead. Save your time, your money, and your sanity--go somewhere else. This school is unorganized and employs instructors who are not aligned, with at least one who lacks the basic demeanor required to teach.

I'm not trying to criticize his technique as a whole, but I do want others to have a clear sense of what to expect. Booking a session was quick and easy, and I was able to get an appointment the very next day, which I really appreciated. I understand that driving instructors sometimes need to be curt and direct for safety reasons. However, I think the type of feedback also needs to match the situation and the student's experience level. For me, the lesson felt like an hour of being yelled at. I was constantly aware that I was doing something wrong, but not always what I had done wrong or how to fix it. My impression was that Lucien overestimated my prior driving experience. This could likely have been resolved by taking a few moments to pause, talk through what we were about to do, and ask whether I had done it before. When I asked questions, Lucien was willing to demonstrate, but many of his instructions weren't clear to me, and his tone made me feel as though I was being scolded, even if that wasn't his intention. If I made the same mistake multiple times, that suggested I didn't understand something, not that I wasn't trying. Instead, he seemed frustrated that I didn't get it immediately and would tell me I was doing it wrong without giving concrete, descriptive feedback about how to correct it. For example, when I was practicing turning, he would yell that I was doing it wrong and grab the wheel, which didn't help me understand what I needed to change. It would have been far more helpful to pull over, explain the steps clearly, and then practice on a quiet street where I could try again safely and independently. There were also times when I misunderstood his instructions (for instance, going into the leftmost lane instead of going to the leftmost lane that eventually turns right). His immediate response was to yell that I hadn't listened, rather than clarify what I had misunderstood. This approach felt infantilizing and made me upset and distracted, which wasn't conducive to learning. Pedagogically, it also didn't make much sense to me. I wasn't paying $70 an hour to ignore instructions; if I wasn't following them correctly, it meant something about the instructions wasn't clear. A more helpful response would have been to ask what part I had misunderstood and adjust the explanation so I could succeed next time. Overall, Lucien may be a good fit for students who thrive under very direct and high-pressure instruction, are very good at articulating the specific skills that they already have and are hoping to gain, and are better at interpreting his feedback. For others, his style may be stressful and difficult to learn from.

I was extremely nervous and freaked out a lot on the road, but Instructor Ray was always very patient and helped me gain confidence. He had a set plan on how we progress each day and he drilled me on all the important aspects on the exam. Passed on my first try with him. My significant other also passed with this school. Highly recommend. The scheduling has also been very easy, and they send you confirmations/reminders the day before. Very friendly staff.

Despite Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 90, Section 10 clearly stating that foreign license holders can legally drive in the state for up to one year with a proper translation, the school rejected my application citing Appendix C from the RMV -- which only applies to license conversion, not to the legality of driving as a recent arrival. I have been in the U.S. for just 4 months, well within the 6-month window confirmed by the RMV for driving on a foreign license. I explained this to the school, but they were unwilling to acknowledge the legal difference. I found their approach dismissive and poorly informed of state law. It's unfortunate to see a driving school show such limited understanding of the legal framework they operate within. I do not recommend them to international drivers, especially those who meet all legal requirements but are treated as if they don't.

I called them as soon as I got my permit in order to schedule my road test. I was told that it's sometimes quite tricky to schedule it since getting an slot for it can be hard. In my case, they offered me to go for my test in only one week. I also ask them if it was possible to have a driving class (45 minutes) with an instructor before the test, just in case. They immediately said yes. Both class and test happened in the same day (class was at 8am, the test was at 10am), which was pretty convenient so I did not have to leave from the office two different days. The instructor was fine. Before the class he texted me in order to confirm the class and the meeting point. During my lesson, he provided useful feedback.
