So glad we finally made it out here! It's only a little over an hour from Austin, and you can make fun little stops in Lockhart or Luling along the way there or back. It was easy to find parking on a weekend in early January. We did a 3.5 mile loop walk around the park, walking along the river first, then the mesquite flats, ottine swamp, and interpretive trails. Took in total about 1.5 hours or so, with two dogs that like to stop every so often. Interesting and unique scenery in each part of the walk. I would absolutely recommend visiting and am looking forward to coming back when there's more foliage on the trees for a different experience.

Great state park that is well run! Good little camp sites , hiking , and kayaking ! Really clean and quiet which is always essential !

It took me 2 hours to complete all the trails at the park, I came for a day hike, and the trails were short and manageable. Most campsites are as close together as I did a quick drive-thru. The trails weren't marked and led directly into the main road which is dangerous. A lot of families were sitting and playing in the river. There's a lot of history in the park that you can't access because it is locked up. Most of the buildings are preserved and originally completed by the CCC. The CCC buildings were for display. I wish there was more to see and admire, but the park left me feeling disappointed.

just wanna say thank you to Celina and Lacey for being so kind and approachable. They made our camping trip enjoyable with their smiles and willingness to take a picture with us. I loved this park so much due to the ample campsite spaces, the river & lake, and overall cleanliness.

That's a tree with some Spanish moss looking stuff taken from laying down on the park bench.

First off - no swamp. At least as far as I could see on the "swamp trail". This needs to be known. Saw some deer, the hawk and some wild ass kids. When you see that San Marcos River you can feel the land has cast wonder through Los siglos y Los siglos and I plan to visit again soon, hopefully them wild ass kids won't be there. Glad they had fun though.

We loved it.We will definitely be back. It was clean peaceful and a lot of activities we hiked and there is area that you can sit in the shallow part of the water.

We found this park while looking for places to hike. It's clean, well maintained and the paths are easy to navigate and walk. I enjoyed my time here and will return for the one path we didn't get to hike before the rain. There are some historical buildings here as well. We had a nice time walking and taking photos. Parking was easy too.

Super friendly park ranger, CLEAN!! Haven't seen one piece of trash and I've walked every trail. Amazing park. This is a great place to go when you're looking for a night or two get away. I feel like 2 days is plenty of time to take in everything this park offers. Worth a check out!

If you're in the San Antonio area, you like to hike, and you want something different from the hilly, rocky trails of the Hill Country area... this is worth the drive for a change of pace. It's about and hour east towards Houston. There's a Buccee's at the turn-off for a bonus stop either on your way there or on the way back. So that's pretty cool too. The park itself doesn't feel like anything you would see in Texas. It feels almost tropical. And everything is different than what we're used to. The tress are different. The grasses are different. And there are even a few different ecosystems you pass through if you cover a good portion of the trails. Plus when we got to the end of our hike, we found a spot where there's a crossing built over there river. We went there and just dangled our feet in the water for a very refreshing end to our time there. All in all, a great time. Highly recommend.

Gorgeous state park. Wood sites, walking trails, internet connection was great which is a huge plus since we are all remote.

Nice place to hike now that it is cooling down a bit. Reservations- DEFINITELY recommended due to restrictions on # of people allowed in. Maps available, camping spots.

I've been going to PSP my whole life, ever since they held Palmetto Camp. We love going to Palmetto SP. There is so much to do and explore from canoeing/kayaking, hiking, and fishing to camping, learning its history, and swimming. Not to mention it is absolutely gorgeous there with so many trees and amazing wildlife. Also, their trails are the best SP trails I've been on, graveled all the way through with some pretty awesome boardwalks. Tons of super pretty trails ranging in difficulty. Very clean! Wish I had better pictures to show but the dogs love it! There's also an overlook just before you get to the headquarters!

They say to my have a fishing pond, but it was small and it looked like it was devoid of any life. I thought the CCC group area and the day-use areas were cool. While I've seen prettier landscapes, the ones at Lockhart are decent. No waterfalls, apparently, the creek onky flows when it rains... But there are a few nice views from the higher elevations of the hiking trails. They have some flatter trails and a few that are more challenging. I hiked several as they were short. I managed to finish 5 in 30 minutes, and it was an enjoyable hike. Lockhart also has a golf course, camping spots, and a swimming pool (in season). It would make a nice place to camp out for a weekend get-away. The gentleman at the office was kind and helpful.
