They have award-winning sausages made on site, and also cure their own bacon, and make up their own beef burgers. There's a variety of stuffed or marinated meat, good for the bbq in the summer or for roasting in the winter. They make sausage rolls and pasties, and it's pretty hard to resist when you walk by and smell that baking! They were happy to give me bones for a dog for no charge. Anything you want, they'll get in for you. There's a small selection of produce and chutneys, and some meat bagged up for the freezer. Oh, and there's cheese and ham, too. I may just start sleeping on the floor. And if you go in and say what you're making, they'll give you the right cut of meat and the right size, and then tell you how long to cook it. I think one of these days, they'll just follow me home and cook it up for me. The downside? It's expensive. But you're paying for quality and expertise, which you just don't get at a supermarket. They're open seven days a week, too.

I went in last night and there was one person already being served - the butcher had tenderised a piece of beef to order and was in the process of cutting it into strips for her. But that didn't mean I had to wait, as he called his colleague out from the back who was happy to assist. I was very pleased with both the service and the quality of the steaks I purchased. I'm a semi-regular here, although I tend to shop here more in the summer when buying for barbecues etc as they have a good range. They also make their own sausages - the pinner porker is great, and they even make pies, pasties and scotch eggs.

I buy around half my groceries and household goods from here, including freshly baked bread. Tongs are always available for picking up the bread, which I find reassuring. As for the staff? It used to come hygienically wrapped, but now it is left unwrapped for all to handle, including those who have just emerged from the toilet, and those who just sneezed into their hands etc.. It is a well-known fact that the general hygiene in this country is iffy. So when customers in making their selection, do not settle for the first loaf but handle quite a few before choosing the one they want, will definitely spread contamination to the rest of us. I have taken this matter up with the floor manager today and on two other occasions but I am being fobbed off with pat answers that this is the company's policy. I ask you: Will she feed her own family with something which she knows could be contaminated? Other supermarkets provide tongs and paper bags, why cannot a responsible firm like Waitrose who say they are all in favour for a healthy living for their customers do likewise?

The owners claim dedication to the dying tradition of afternoon tea and they certainly have gone all out to maintain that unique British flavour that so many generic coffee shops have almost wiped out in London. Every detail, from the elegant crockery, the ornate homemade cakes and the rosy faced waitress, perfectly recreate a time when a nice cup of tea and a civilized chat was enough to fill an afternoon. Indeed, the atmosphere was so effective I wished I was going home to listen to the gramophone in front of a log fire. After worrying about the possible effects of drinking so much tea I left, content with the world and happy in the knowledge that there are still corners of London devoted to being a little bit British.

Decor is sweet and cutesy - not the kind of thing you'd expect would appeal to Harrow public schoolboys, but we did see a few. The muesli I had wasn't as exciting as it sounded on the menu and I was still hungry after but I loved the cakes we had as 'dessert'. The others mostly had fry-ups which looked pretty standard to me (shop-bought hashbrowns and sausages) but it was all presented beautifully. I'd almost definitely come back and buy some more cake (but probs not brunch). There was a funny moment when I dropped a ginseng tablet on a plate of brownies by the till and everyone looked suitably horrified til I explained what it was. The waitress took it well tho ;)
