I was grooving to the Highgate frequency when I stopped in here to get a spinanch/hummus sandwhich and a soy shake, This store isn't that overpriced considering the location across the street from Highgate Wood. Deli and Delights has a nice selection of Blue Dragon soup, Seggiano sauce (makers of the best pesto sauce around) and loads of expensive chocolates. I felt fabulous shopping here.

(I'm not actually vegan; the pesto is just wonderful!) You know that you've found indulgence when you've found a shop that sells tea in pillows rather than bags. You know when you've found love when you've found a shop that sells organic lime and tequila marmalade. The place is just outside Highgate Underground station and one of the first places I shopped when I first moved here. The place is small, not particularly pretentious but very artisan and supplies more simple things such as a small selection of frozen foods and toiletries. I try not to come here as I do tend to raid the antipasti and the weird and wonderful marmalade. So much quality so much temptation and worth a visit.

One reason why I like the Corner Shop is because they have a very decent selection of German-like…read more(in other words: dense & moist) breads. Be sure you get a fresh loaf though, because sometimes they have breads on display that are a day old and they have really lost much of their deliciousness! In fact, a trip to preserve fresh bread is to slice it all up when it's still fresh and put it in the freezer! Furthermore, the folks at the Highgate Corner Shop make quite nice sandwiches and you can actually decide what goes into (or onto?) your sandwich...and the sandwiches are really cheap! I only wish they would use the nice whole-meal bread that they are selling by the loaf to prepare your sandwich - but I guess the rather typical English clientele still prefers their white toast...

One of the best things about living in Highgate is the Corner Shop…read more It has the loveliest tasting bread I have ever tried especially the spelt wholemeal loaf which has been our staple for years. They have organic bread, delicious walnut brown bread and a vast selection of other types which are fresh everyday. The delicatessen has a lovely range of cheeses, salads, chicken skewers etc and the best ever tasting humous which visitors to our place who try it all remark on. They sell a huge variety of products compared to Tesco and if you ever run out of anything or need anything, how ever obscure, the corner shop will have it! The owner is very friendly and the lovely lady on the delicatessen counter and all in all it has a wonderful community feel. Sadly, it will be coming to an end in December 2015 because due to the landlord increasing the rent extortionately, the corner shop will have to close after the owners long fight to keep it open and after 35 years of owning it! What will Highgate do without it and it's lovely friendly shop keepers.

Fresh, super tasty and lots of rich flavours. We shared the vegetarian breakfast, pancakes with jam and maple syrup as well as the bread selection, all delicious! The cornbread is particularly tasty. To the delectable baked cakes and breads. Everything just feels so tactile and earthy. There's lovely light streaming in the huge front windows if you're sitting inside. Or sit out in the front in the sun. There are brollies in the summer and blankets in the autumn. Pointer - have the tea. Even if you feel like coffee, have the tea! Honestly it's an experience. An olive-wood board with a selection of painstakingly-sourced ingredients : honey, lemongrass, cardamom, fresh mint, cinnamon stick, the list goes on, and a pot of hot water. Yes, you have the option of using the dull little bag of tea leaves you ordered BUT you'll be sacrificing your ingenuity and an opportunity to create a flavour-extravaganza. Throw the bag away, you don't need it! Customers are overwhelmingly mums, grandparents and girlfriends meeting to natter. Recently I sat next to two laptops with people connected to them, but they're a minority.

Their dishes include pasta bakes, curries and shepherd's pie, soups and pate and yummy desserts. Whenever possible some of the ingredients come from the garden just outside! it doesn't get more organic than that! Seating out in the veranda, even when it's raining, is very romantic and intimate. And to top it all off power is supplied via a solar panel. The cabin can also be hired out for parties (children and adults) and meetings, and we had a blast in our offices Christmas party, the owner is a lovely guy that lives there and joined in the fun.

Think composing committees, weekend gardening volunteers, conservation talks, and as many solar panels as there are exposed wood panels. The inside of this cabin-style café is straight out of an Abe Lincoln biography and there's a large patio outside that cries for a few rocking chairs, a porch swing and a Willie Nelson cameo. The menu consisted of veggie favourites, mouth-watering cakes (although it would have been nice to have a gluten-free option or two,) and coffee/tea. Loads of the dishes noted ingredients that were grown on site in the volunteer run garden. Mmmm... crunchy goodness! No matter how far your hippy scale leans, it's rare in a place as big as London to feel completely isolated. If you're ever in the market, Queen's Wood Café is your spot.
