Attended the park for a family gathering. I was disappointed when I visited the restrooms. The stall had no waste basket so hygiene pads and toilet paper were being left on the floor or surrounding area. Also this is a place for family to gather, that means people of all ages. My elderly Mother had to go to the bathroom, which is not a simple task at her age, only to find out they were closed when we got there. Why do they close the park restrooms when people are still there. Where are we supposed to go to use the bathroom. If the park is open to the public from dusk to dawn the restrooms should remain open at least up to an 1/2 hour before sunset. I hope that changes. read more

What I most like about this park is it's versatility. There are 7 tennis courts! Also the park itself is pretty spacious as well. There's a designated area for trails where both bike riders and/or walkers can enjoy respectively. Also there are spots where you can barbecue and enjoy a good time for get togethers. Additionally there are many types of sports and activities you can engage in. For example swimming and other group sports . Palm park is an excellent choice for solo time or group time. Palm Park Is a very nice example of one of your neighborhood parks. It is a relatively large neighborhood park. It has all of the essential necessities that a park should have. The high point of this park is that it has a swimming pool. Though it is only open during very specific hours. If you check on availability, you may want to go to the park simply to jump in the water. This park also has a very nice community center. It is available for rental. So, if you want to hold your event in Whittier, this may be an option for you. This park also has access to the Whittier bike path. In fact, it goes right through the middle of the park. So, if you are riding your bike in the area, you may want to stop off and take a look at the bird houses that are located in this park, that so many people have photographed. Overall, Palm Park offers what a park should offer. A place for exercise and relaxation in the middle of the city. read more

I'm not happy with this park at all. I haven't been to this side of town for a minute. I was excited to pay for my kids swim lessons. I'm shooketh on the rudeness, entitlement of pool goers. No respect, no one's friendly. Everyone is kinda just with their nose in air!. This use to be one of my favorite parks. It's only 35 minutes of swim lessons and I do expect my kids to get use of every minute. It's sucks when kids show up late and the instructor has to play catch up with them and the other kids wait. It's 6 six kids per 1 instructor. As for the rude crowd of parents, grandparents. My toes were stepped on, stepped over not once did I get an excuse me or sorry. Like where is our common courtesy. If you're watching your kids in pool expect a rude ass parent to stop right in front of you and literally dry their body take their sweet time well blocking you. The parking is terrible I was here for two weeks. People will take their sweet time changing in their car well 8 cars are waiting for parking. The older ladies that have their swim class will cut you off to get their parking and even make their own parking in the red zone. I seen it more than once! Now to my biggest issue the showers. My 8 yr old daughter walks into 5-7 boys with their moms. All boys are buttnaked. That's bullshit. It's one thing to share the restroom stalls but the showers is totally unacceptable. For the staff to say "bylaw" " bylaw" it's ok is bullshit. There's no signs that say this is gender neutral. These boys are not identifying with females. It's the rude ass moms with no daughters. If it's gender neutral these moms should be going to the men's restrooms. I'm sorry my daughter's isn't use to seeing balls and peckers every where. She shouldn't be getting exposed to this because facility is too lazy or doesn't know how to properly make this safe for our little girls. If you leave your daughter here for the summer programs be warned facility could care less if a boy goes in restrooms with her. So please have those safety conversations because you never know!!! read more

I used to love to spend my afternoons playing tennis at the palm park tennis center, UNTIL that old and bitter lady started to work there. She's always in a bad mood enforcing the terrible court reservation system, even when the courts are EMPTY. They call it, "prime time hours" even though the courts are a ghost town. I've arrived to the courts multiple times when they were empty and not even that OLD lady had arrived, and played happily with my friends. As soon as she parked, she walked straight onto our court and forced us to make a reservation and interrupted our game and ruined our afternoon. WE WERE THE ONLY ONES THERE. So sad what's become of this place. Move her to a different location please!! My poor tax dollars!! read more

We enrolled our daughter in the swim classes. They are understaffed so the teacher and life guard weren't paying attention and my daughter almost drowned. They have 1 teacher for a group of 3 and when he has his back turned to work with one. The other two who don't know how to swim are left on their own about 20 feet away. My husband had to run over and jump in the pool to save her. They didn't even notice she was under the water. The life guard didn't notice and the teacher had no clue. It was terrifying and the girl at the front mentioned these things happen, when the kids get so excited they try to swim on their own. If they know this then why aren't they properly staffed in preparation. This facility needs to staff it better or have the parent stand closer to jump in. The parents have to stand really far back so it's not so easy to jump in and support. My husband had to jump a little wall and run about 40 ft+ to jump in. My daughter loves the water, she is 3 and really was excited. She was very scared after, and I hope this doesn't terrify her from the water. Just wanted to warn parents, if you take swim classes here... make sure to watch your kids at all times. They don't have capacity to ensure our kids are safe on their own. read more

This review is for the AQUATIC CENTER, Two days in a row, they move my son from level 3 to 1&2 based on him not being able to swim on his back. Even though in level 1&2 they hold a board the entire time, Which makes NO SENSE! The biggest disappointment is with the lifeguards approach with the situation, I was caught off guard both times, in front of everyone, including my kids. Lifeguards need to understand that they make or break children's love and desire to swim. When deciding what level a child should be placed, consider using a more positive approach, You Can, You Will, vs. Your Not! All in all, my sons will or desire to learn to swim is dim after years of taking swim classes at Palm Park, with great experiences. I have talked to him about not allowing anyones thoughts about him, bring him down. A tough lesson to learn as a second grader, needless to say, we got a refund & will try again at LA SERNA read more

Nice park to host birthday parties & family gatherings. The main section of the park has a kids area and plenty of tables to host your party. You are NOT ALLOWED to reserve any space till dawn, if you are there any time before that security will ask you to leave for your safety till the sun is up to reserve your spot. The good thing about this park is once it's dark- Party is OVER. The park has no lighting yet is open till 11pm. I wondered why would the park be open but not have any lighting provided. As we left the birthday party to our car I noticed the used condom on the floor and that answered that question, so please watch your step. read more

So I have needed to get some exercise for a long time but knee pain has kept me on the coach, or at least giving me a good excuse. A few weeks ago I decided that it was time to start and within a few weeks I am really feeling much better. The staff is very nice and the people in the pool are very accommodating. On a few occasions there are a lot of swimmers taking advantage of the lap pool while at least half the pool is taken by the adult swim class. For the last half hour I typically get the pool for less than 6 to 8 people. I typically go for the lap swim 7:30 to 9:00 PM for their last lap time of the day. The lockers and pool are kept relatively clean but they could do a little better job. The pool has a huge amount of chlorine in it; its hard to get the odor out of your bathing suit but I can understand why AND THE ALTERNATIVE WOULD BE WORSE! read more

These 7 courts are well maintained and have a faster play an medium bounce, which is perfect for my style of play. Just so you know, these are not free courts, there is a $8 per hour per court fee! And you are allowed to bring pets too! The park also looks really nice and there are benches in the park where you can sit down and relax. There are also birdhouses on the trail. There is also a lot of space to park. This is my favorite park to go to. I recommend this park if you want a place to relax while your children play. read more

Thanks to the previous reviews as I enjoyed this park very much. Slightly north of uptown Whittier but still Uptown to me is this fancy-schancy park and I love fancy-schmancy parks. This park looked nice with 6 tennis courts, a large pool area which was filled with youth and a lovely grass area. On the backside there is a walking trail as well. A lovely grapevine restroom, netted tennis courts and stands for people who want to watch tennis. The parking lot was full most likely due to the summer program and people who drive here to walk. We had our choice of two empty tennis courts and had so much fun that morning. In an area with so many tall trees and a quiet and clean neighborhood it is rather relaxing. They have no basketball courts, children's playgrounds or bbq areas so I would not suggest this park for those purposes but I will likely come back for some more tennis. I would love to play with Serena Williams and maybe have a tennis game too. read more

We had a party here for my mom in December at their multi purpose room. I would not recommend having any events here. The staff was rude and walked in every two seconds to "check up on us". They also made sure to rush us out and tell us every hour now much time we had left. It was extremely uncomfortable for us and our guests. I've familiarized myself with parks around Whittier because my job calls for keeping children stimulated educationally, artistically, and most importantly, physically. When I want to take the children out of the classroom and into a more physically active environment, I have found myself taking them to Palm Park for all of the great features it has to offer. Since the completion of the Whittier Greenway Trail, one of the many perks has come in the connection between the East and West areas of the park. Earlier this year, the playground at the park received a complete makeover, ridding it of the outdated sand foundation and updating it with recycle rubber floors. The play equipment was also updated to provide a safer and more accessible play experience for all children. A wheelchair ramp, and accessible swing have been added to the playground. With two major playground areas, one for toddlers and one for older children, I feel that the designers really thought of everything and met the needs of all types of families. As an added feature of Palm Park, there are tennis courts, a basketball court, and a baseball field to cater to the different interests of adults and children alike. When I take my children to the park, we utilize their huge grassy area for kickball games, relay races, and many other games that call for a lot of space. In the summer, we love to take advantage of the water sprinkler that comes on at noon every day. The highlight of this park has to be their Aquatic Center that offers swimming lessons, and open swimming during the summer. Many people using the Greenway Trail use this park as a pit stop because it also has an exercise area with equipment where you can get in some pull-ups, sit-ups, and push-ups. This is a great park with many entertaining elements to it. The best part about it is that there are tons of trees that offer a shady area to take a break in or have a nice picnic. I will be taking my children here for all of my outdoor activities from now on. Maybe one day we'll take advantage of the Greenway Trail and walk over. read more

Palm Park is another Whittier park of which I have amazing childhood memories. From its amazing ship-themed play equipment to the weird chain-link-fence-enclosed climbing tower (it seemed like it was fifty feet high when I was a kid) to the large picnic-table area, this place had it all. I don't know whether the play equipment is still here, but the tennis courts are, and the pool was constructed in the mid-'90s, and it still looks very modern and well maintained. (I drive by it once or twice a year when I'm on my way to a high-school friend's parents' house.) There's plenty of space to run around in, and the atmosphere is tranquil for the most part. Now that the train tracks that ran near this park are not used anymore, I'm sure this place is peaceful as can be. read more

First time visit with my husband and newborn and we loved it . It's peaceful and clean, people are very friendly . This is my favorite hiking trail thus far. It has a dirt trail for those walking, and a pavement trail for bikes . There is scattered patches of shade but a lot of trees as well butterfly's and flowers (so pretty) . You walk along beautiful whittier homes , can't wait to go again hope you enjoy. The only thing this trail lacked was drinking fountains along the trail so don't forget your water bottle! I get the no dogs allowed rule, but Whittier needs to educate their park maintenance staff on the ADA rules. I was hassled by 2 employees this morning after repeatedly telling them my dog was a service dog. They asked me for my permit. Anyone with a REAL service animal knows that there is no such thing as a permit for a service dog. The only dogs with permits are fake because they paid some service for that permit. I shouldn't feel worse than I do about having my illness, when uneducated people harass me because I take my daughter to the park. read more

I've grown up next to this park and its always an adventure. Its a lot of space so its perfect for a football game or a larger recreational activity that you may have in mind. A few year ago, I used to join the guys at the basketball court and it was always a lot of fun. They play pick-up games in the afternoons usually, but its been a while since I've been there so I don't even know if they still play. Soccer games seem to always be going on too, so if you are looking for a team or some sports to play with people, Palm Park is a great place to stop by and check out. Also good for the kids, the play ground is SUPER fun! The tire swing is probably the most popular part for kids, I know I loved it when I was younger. In the summer, there is a water area where kids can go play and there is a pool with open hours for the older ones. Swimming lessons and daycamps take place here through the City of Whittier brochures and they are very popular! I went through the programs and I would recommend checking the various programs they offer if you have kids or live around the area. Overall, a great park that has given me some great memories over the years. read more

On of the older parks in Whittier area. Been coming he for over 22 years an my family been coming here for about 45 years since they were younger. My grandmother loved this park having family party's birthday Easter Sumer party's just to have them. We always have left over I would assume every one dose when they have big family pot lucks. So when you see that person digging through trash just to make a buck give them a drink an a plate of food. That's what my grandmother would due, Pass it on, be nice your not gonna eat it all. The city of Whittier runs this court...very poorly I might add. There are groups that take it over and will take over your reservations. Also, if there is a group, no one can be on the court until ALL members of your group are paid for. Courts are in good shape but that's about it. read more

This review is for the Palm Park Aquatics center. I took adult swim lessons there and they were awesome! I can't say enough about the wonderful instructors there. They are patient and encouraging. They celebrate big and small accomplishments alike. They are also very competent in their instruction. As someone that is/was deathly afraid of the water, I now have much more confidence and am on my way to learning how to swim. I took the two week evening course. The timing was perfect after work. I wish they continued past July so I could continue. The pool facilities are nice and well kept. The pool is big and kept at a good temperature. They have fully equipped restrooms with showers and lockers. I didn't use the park, but I found it to be nice, big and clean. It has a very communal feel with lots of families out enjoying the many facilities and playing fields, there were people exercising and children playing. Just a great feeling to be there on a summer evening. read more
