Hill Country Woodwork worked with me on the design - the many, many redesigns and tweaking - and then produced what is a beautiful bed and side tables. Dave got right to creating a few different drawings from what he had heard and seen in our conversations. He was super responsive and open to feedback, and very patient as we changed our minds (wood type, style details, etc... very patient!). When the big reveal came (aka delivery), we were grinning from ear to ear. Even from very detailed computer drawings, you never quite know what you'll get, but our delivery was better than we could have ever imagined. Dave and his team take their profession to the next level, and you will not be disappointed either. On a side note, Dave is very very involved in the community. I only learned of this when we saw his family out at a museum a few months later, but it further warmed my heart to know we were customers to such a talented artist and wonderful man (he is an incredible foster parent).

There's a huge selection of Oriental/Turkish/Persian rugs in all colors and sizes in the back. It's art for your floor and just as hard to pick only one to take home. But getting to the back of the store to see those amazing rugs is only one piece of the adventure Nomadic Trading offers. You first have to walk through a collection of Oriental, Indian, Turkish art history of assorted items. All of them, the furniture, water jars, lamps, beads, etc. are striking -- simple, yet complex at the same time. The natural materials are a refreshing change from modern-day chemical-based creations. When you get to the back of the store, you'll see rugs in colors and patterns unlike any others. The blues and reds attracted my attention, but each of them is intriguing in its own way. The patterns and colors all had a story to tell. It's folk-art. If you're truly fortunate, you'll be able to listen to the owner play his drums - I think they're Dybbuk (I forgot to ask) -- to add to the ambience.

While there is no gas, there is plenty of vintage decor, such as glassware, frames, and furniture. Some of the furniture advantageously displays the other collection for which the shop is known: Chalk Paint and workshops for learning how to work with it. From what I saw and heard, it sounds pretty straightforward and much easier to work with than ordinary paint. The added bonus is that to get the paint, I won't have to drive to their location on the other side of Raleigh to get it. Unlike many shops of this kind, walking around without knocking something over is do-able. There is lots of light, thanks to the large windows, and wide enough aisles to view the painted and unpainted furniture, or check out the glassware, the antiques, or even the scarves or jewelry. It's a nice store, and an even nicer addition to downtown Apex. It'll be fun to watch the inventory change as the seasons change.
