If you can brave the unique service aesthetic of a pan asian restaurant in paris declaiming its giant sign advertising vietnamese food, rock on. (it was yummy). Went on a Monday (warning, most of chinatown is closed mondays!) seeking pho. Palais d' Asie advertises chinese and vietnamese food, but the waiter seemed put off when we asked for pho, he said "it's a chinese restaurant" We had a "non-pho" pho that really was pho (beef ball, rare beef and rice noodle), a springroll and beef "bun" (cold noodle with sauce), a roast duck rice plate (straight-up chinese yum!) and spring rolls, which the french call "nems" (nom nom nom). All the lettuce and cucumbers and veggies were super fresh and crisp, the rice on the rice plate was super fragrant and delicious. Seemed like a few parties came in and left without eating after asking a few questions of the waiter. Odd?They may have wanted dim sum...the menu seemed a bit abbreviated, maybe due to the Monday slump? Also, no sticky rice was available that day. read more
