Even the fried green plantains, which should've added some texture, had steamed into mild sogginess from the foil wrap, despite me ordering it for dine-in. Maybe I'll try the Cubano or the empanadas next time. The jibarito was fine, but definitely overhyped here and on Google Reviews.

Criollo is located in a small strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside, but as soon as you open the doors you know you're in for a treat. The decor is polished and cozy with a nice bar area; the kitchen is semi-open so you can see the flames as your food is firing. They have fantastic Caribbean and Puerto Rican fare with beautiful, thoughtfully crafted cocktails. Everything was fantastic from start to finish. Here were some of the highlights: -Chicharron: crispy pork belly bites, need I say more -Alcapurria jueyes (Fried crab fritters): golden, crispy fritter with a crunchy exterior and soft, savory inside with flavorful crab filling. The fresh bites from the onion slaw were a nice touch with these. -Chicken empanadas: dip these in the pink sauce with a touch of their spicy sauce and you're in heaven. Slightly crisp and flaky exterior with a tender, chewy bite, perfect for holding the delicious filling. -Mofongo with shrimp and garlic sauce: if you've never tried garlic sauce on Mofongo, I highly suggest it. It's creamy and garlicky in all the right ways. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the Mofongo brought me right back to my trip to Puerto Rico where I first fell in love with it. -Churros: truly the best ones I ever had. It was a last minute add on because "why not!" and the best decision! We made reservations for 6:30pm and when we arrived it wasn't overly busy, but by the time we left every table was filled. And that's no surprise based on our experience.

They also operate the Tropical Food Truck which I've seen parked at various locations around Manchester. They offer Puerto Rican and Dominican foods along with sandwiches, fried foods, and pizza. This neighborhood convenience market and kitchen was remodeled in the former 912 Pizza & Market. There are a few tables inside to eat your food. I've ordered takeout from Tropical food to go via ToastTab. On a visit back in September, I ordered the Pernil Sandwich ($10 plus tax), 2 Papa Rellenos ($5 plus tax), a Crab Meat Empanada ($3 plus tax) and a Pepperoni Empanada ($2.25 plus tax). My order was all set in about 20 minutes after placing my takeout order. The 12" Pernil Sandwich (Sub) had plenty of tender & soft pork pieces, lettuce, tomato and Swiss cheese on a soft & chewy sub roll. The papa rellenos (soft fried potato balls) were filled with seasoned ground beef. They threw in an extra papa relleno, 3 total. The empanadas had crispy and flaky pastry shells with the meat fillings. The crab meat empanada could've had more filling inside. On my most recent visit this week, I placed another online order for Tostones (6 for $3 plus tax) and a 3 Topping Pizza ($16 plus tax). However, after I placed my order and took a seat inside to wait for my food, I was informed that they ran out of pizza dough and I could either get refunded for the pizza or order something else. I decided to instead order the Tripleta Sandwich ($12 plus tax), a Beef Empanada ($2.25 plus tax) and a Chicken Empanada ($2.25 plus tax) along with the already ordered Tostones. The transaction was updated on their end and I waited another 15 minutes for my food order. They gave me extra tostones (6 more) for the extra wait. The Tripleta Sandwich was similar to the Pernil Sandwich, but with additional meats, which had tender soft roasted pork (Pernil), ham, pastrami, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mayo on a soft chewy 12" sub roll. The fried tostones were thin and a bit chewy to eat, but otherwise a great value. The empanadas looked different than the previous visit which were bigger pastry shells (larger disc used) and had more filling with plenty of ground beef and shredded chicken inside each empanada. I say stick with the bigger empanadas. I will continue to order from Tropical Food To Go for takeout since it's along my commuting route from work to the retail area of Manchester. Hopefully, I will be able to order a pizza and mofongo on my next visits.

I loved the TRIPLETA SANDWICH. It has three meats- ham, roasted pork, and steak. SO GOOD. I love that instead of bread, it's with sweet plantains. They'll ask what kind of toppings you want, but I went with everything (lettuce, tomato, onions, etc). It's very messy to eat, so it comes with a fork that will be used shortly after a few bites. This is a great spot for lunch. There are some other things I want to try next, like their breakfast options (only 9-11am). Will be back to try more authentic dishes!!

Cibao Kitchen serves up Latin American/Dominican food at very reasonable prices. The food is hot & ready served from behind the glass display counter. They offer a variety of meat entrees such as stewed beef, chicken, oxtail, ribs, pork served with choice of rice, beans, and small salad for $7 even.  They also sell fried plantains, empanadas, potato balls, and fruit juices.  I've been to the mall location twice and ordered the Fried Pork Dinner ($7) and Stewed Beef with Gravy Dinner ($7) and empanadas (beef & chicken-$1.50 each) and potato balls (filled with meat-$2 each). The portions were good sized, the meats were juicy and very tender. The rice and beans had good flavors and the salad was small and simple with iceberg lettuce, tomato slice, and vinaigrette dressing. The fried empanadas (pastry shells  filled with seasoned ground beef/seasoned shredded chicken) were greasy, but very tasty. The stuffed potato balls (fried crisp outside) with soft mashed potatoes and ground beef in the center were also a nice treat too! Though I am sad that Quasi Pronti (custom pasta dishes) left the mall, I am very happy that Cibao Kitchen opened another location at the mall. The business here has been steady.
