After a very nice visit I left without any doubt that he'd do the job well and on time. 48 hours later when my phone rang, and 48 hours before I needed it, I cringed thinking something may have gone wrong. That wasn't the message at all, and an hour later I picked my finished piece up. It's gorgeous and will make a beautiful gift which I'm sure will become a family treasure. We really wanted to see their arts, especially those of Debbie Carlson. Martin Museum is a pocket art museum located on the campus of Baylor University in Waco. The small museum was sectioned off into two smaller galleries, one for each artist. All the art pieces were intriguing and though provoking. The pieces flowed well with their arrangement. A nice and informative employee manning the galleries was especially helpful in directing us to visit the Baylor University art classrooms hallway that was connected to the museum. She encouraged us to view student art pieces that were on exhibit in the hallway. There were dozens of expressive and enjoyable student arts. We absolutely loved and enjoyed the arts of the two mixed media artists. The unexpected student arts were icing on the cake, a very pleasant surprise. Admission and parking were free.

What I am surprised about, is how much time has gone by: 20 years her studio has been up and running, and they are still going strong! (Omg, I feel old). I knew in my heart and gut, if anyone in our company was going to grow up to own and operate her own successful dance studio, that person would be Gina Nix. I can't believe my four-year-old learned so much within a month's time! Truthfully, because of Gina, I'm not surprised at all. "Miss Gina" is not a shrewd disciplinarian, though she definitely knows how to command her space with movement (that thing she teaches) with great skill, patience, talent, and in her own meticulous fashion. Her students learn what their parents pay them to learn- HOW TO DANCE CORRECTLY. And from what I've seen, they manage to have a great time to boot. My little girl (now in kindergarten and back in CA ) will still, at random, practice shuffle-hop step's, arabesques and pique turns in public, at home, at the grocery store etc., and loudly verbalize the dance terminology as she goes. What a blessing she was in such good hands at All That Jazz! It will always be my hope that the students and staff at All That Jazz maintain to receive the kudos they deserve; both in their hometown, and in all the cities in which they successfully go to compete several times every year. I will always be rooting for them and my heart, and yelling, "Break a Leg!" And for the studio's namesake, "Its Showtime, Folks!"

I'll never be a ballerina, a Fosse impersonator, or move like Bojangles, but I will keep improving my flexibility, balance, and conditioning and enjoy it immensely. The most recent example involved a social media post following the announcement of Tim Curry's passing. The theatre published a post that many community members perceived as distasteful and opportunistic, using the news of his death to promote its Spring 2027 production of Clue. Whether that was the intent or not, numerous patrons expressed genuine concerns about the timing and tone. Rather than consistently handling those concerns with professionalism, the theatre's official social media account became increasingly defensive. The individual managing the account identified herself as the theatre's Marketing and Development Manager, Ray Lowe, and responded to members of the public with comments such as, "Please stop your bias," "I'm so over it," "I'm sorry I am smart and know how to make a brand sound professional," and "Please freaking stop." Those are not the kinds of responses I expect from someone entrusted with representing a community arts organization whose role is to build relationships with patrons, donors, volunteers, and the public. What concerns me even more is that the entire public exchange, including the theatre's own responses, was later removed. Rather than leaving the conversation visible and addressing the criticism transparently, the result was that the public could no longer see the interaction that prompted the concerns or evaluate the organization's response, and the conduct of its Marketing and Development Manager while representing the theatre, for themselves. Unfortunately, this incident did not feel like an isolated mistake. Based on my own experiences with the organization over the years, I have watched the theatre's culture, professionalism, and public image steadily decline. Marketing has become inconsistent, the quality and reputation of productions appear to have diminished, and concerns raised by patrons or volunteers seem increasingly to be met with defensiveness or dismissal rather than thoughtful engagement. These are not the qualities that inspire confidence in a community organization that depends on the trust and support of its volunteers, audiences, donors, and local artists. Community theatre thrives on collaboration, transparency, accountability, and respectful engagement. I sincerely hope the Board of Directors takes a careful look at the organization's leadership, current staff members, communication practices, and overall culture. This theatre has the potential to be an incredible asset to the community, but meaningful accountability and a renewed commitment to professionalism are needed if it hopes to regain the confidence of those who have chosen to step away.
