My nieces decided to do this for their 30(something) birthdays. We prepaid for our canvas and had a choice of canvas options at varying prices. Average costs about $37. This event was kid-friendly and all ages had a blast! The painting was sketched and we were given instructions on how to complete our own masterpieces! There was a 2 hour time frame for us. We had some guests to arrive late and the staff provided them with a take home canvas and paint. Needless to say, the staff was VERY friendly and accommodating. A-1! My nieces provided wines, lemonade and some awesome nibbles and bites. I hope to come back soon with some more family! I came here for my 30th with some of my BFFs and I'm not going to lie... I was worried!! Asking people to pay $30+ to come paint something is a lot of pressure IMO. This place had thousands of painting options though and I found the perfect one! Second of all I am very outspoken and made sure they knew that they could paint whatever they wanted if they didn't like what I picked out. Carley, our instructor, was absolutely incredible!! She was so fun and helpful! She also didn't mind me acting like a bday diva which was really the best part. Carley also picked perfect music for the occasion and we were all jamming the entire time. They do not provide food and drink but we BYOBed so it was perfect! my friends were even able to decorate the location. I was absolutely blown away by how much fun we had. My husband surprised me with a painting class for my birthday and we had a blast. I expected a large class but, on the plus side it was just the two of us which made our experience even better. Our instructor, Noah was very down to earth and accommodating. He also gave me a free painting to take home as a Birthday gift. For the class which is typically 2 hours you are provided with a canvas and a variety of colors to choose from. Also, you can bring wine, beer, and snacks and they provide you with cups,ice, etc. We will definitely return and hopefully I will get to attend the "paint your pet" class. So fun! I took my daughter and her friend to do a Christmas elf. They really enjoyed doing it. I thought the price was reasonable and since both the girls love art this was a great way to spend two hours. Plus they get a great painting to take home. We did our class on a Sunday afternoon and it was just us. So it was like we had one on one instruction. Our instructor, Lynette, was super nice. I had so much fun and I didn't even go with friends! I've been to several Sips and Strokes painting events before so I knew what to expect at these painting places. Painting with a Twist is located on the other side of town, so it's not convenient for me. There were 7 of us in the class - The perfect number of people I think. The instructor, Krystal, was engaging, had great 90's music for our group, helpful, clear in her instructions, but not demeaning. We took short breaks to let the paint dry. It was a relaxing and fun thing to do, by yourself or with friends. I plan to pick out another class and maybe take along several friends or family members. read more

I had a great time here with one of my girlfriends! We had a class with Noah, and he was very fun and explained everything super well. For $35, you get paints, access to all your materials, and a canvas for whatever waiting your doing during that session. We didn't drink but they don't care if you bring your own stuff! The manager is very rude. Do not expect a refund nor to reschedule if something prevents you from attending your booking. I booked for a Valentine's date with my husband. It was a surprise for him, and I was very excited. We live in Tuscaloosa and were prepared to drive two hours to attend. There ended up being an inclement weather condition. James Spann advised everyone to stay home. I called to reschedule 4 hours in advanced. I didn't even want my money back as I still wanted the experience of creating a beautiful canvas with my loved one. I was promptly informed that I could not reschedule nor get a refund. I explained about the weather conditions, and the manager insisted that we were not in the affected area. I said, "I realize that Birmingham is not in threat, but Tuscaloosa is. I live in and am traveling from Tuscaloosa. If I attend, it will put me driving on the interstate during the storm. Respectfully, you are not a meteorologist, but James Spann is, and he said to stay home." Again I was told that I could not reschedule nor could I get a refund. Again I was told that the weather was fine. I continued to explain that I have PTSD from the 2011 tornadoes and that I lost a five year old child in them. "It is not worth the risk. This could literally be a life or death situation." I finally asked why the booking couldn't be rescheduled. I was told it was because "the paint had already been poured." At that point I was furious, frustrated, and kind of rude. I won't even lie that I was only half serious when I invoked my inner Karen and said, "okay, I guess I will come pick up the paint and do it at home." And that's what I did. When I arrived, the employee there had no idea what was going on. She informed me that the paint had in fact NOT been poured for that class yet and she scurried off to prepare the take home kit. During this, the manager arrived but refused to speak to me or even make eye contact with me. I thanked the employee for her time and left with my take home kit. Upon inspection in the car, it wasn't even the correct items I had purchased. I went back in to request the corred canvases with the correct stencils and instructions. Again, the manager refuse to acknowledge me. I still have not painted these canvases because I find the instructions confusing and overwhelming as someone who is not remotely an artist. I wanted the instruction that I paid for. I emailed asking if maybe there was a video version of the instructions. I didn't get a response for 10 days. So I emailed again. 5 days later they sent a PDF of incorrect instructions that were similar to the ones I stated were unhelpful in my email. I read reviews of people with similar issues, specifically the rude staff. I keep seeing them respond with "quality customer care is of utmost importance to us." Really? It sure doesn't seem like it from this customer's experience. This is why I rated it at only 1 Star. I will never spend money at this establishment again, and I hope anyone reading this follows suit. read more

Located in a plaza so easy to find parking . This was my first time doing a class like this . We attended a 4pm class .?Our teacher vel welcomed us by name and directed us to grab a apron . She then wished us happy anniversary. We ended up being the only ones (the class after us was the more popular one ) but it made our evening even more special . I really enjoyed the instructors personality made the class so fun. I brought cheese and champagne and the instructor provided us with cups. We had such a good time celebrating a friends birthday here!! We were a little worried at first as our artist seemed a little flustered/aggravated with our large, outgoing, and talkative group but as we got going it turned out to be an amazing night!! Vale was our artist and was AMAZING! She took the time to walk us through each step and help us whenever we needed it. We also took time out to play some games and converse which was nice! I had a very fun afternoon painting pictures with my daughter at this location. The facility is clean and very nice. Our artist for the day was friendly, helpful and full of energy! She explained everything very well and offered critiqued when requested but emphasized that all art is individual and is our own work and encouraged us to not be too harsh a critic to our own works. I prepaid to attend the family class with my sisters from out if town and my mom who has Alzheimer's. Mom had difficulties the morning of our class and we were not able to make it so I called to see if I could use the prepaid classes another day and I was told no because the had put the canvases out already. Really, accommodations cannot be made for life events that happen. I do not recommend this business to anyone. Go to Sips and Strokes they will accommodate. read more

My mom and I went to Painting with a Twist this afternoon, and overall, it was fun, but we were a little disappointed when we got there. We walked in ten minutes early and the woman (I think she's the owner) that was helping us told us that since it was just the two of us we were going to have to teach ourselves and that she wasn't going to sit up front and show us how. When we said we weren't aware that's how it worked, she just told us we should've booked a painting session that had more people in it. We weren't aware that we were the only ones painting, and no one told us that prior to coming. I guess I can understand why you wouldn't want to teach just two people, but then again, why did I pay $70 to just use your supplies then? She wasn't too nice when we first got there, but I think she realized she upset us, so then she spent the rest of the time being nice and helping us. I'm not sure how it would've been if she didn't notice we weren't happy. I guess my complaint is that although she was using a "nice" voice, she was being rude when we first got there and our $70 is the same as any one else who books, so I just don't understand why our session looked different than others. Had we been aware that two person groups weren't treated the same, we would've asked more people to come or moved to a different time. read more
