I saw a comedian perform at the Lyric last night, and I really enjoyed the venue. The views of the stage were good from multiple vantage points as I walked around to explore. My seat was in the balcony and also had a good view of the entire stage. The acoustics were good. The entire setting was intimate, which made for great people-watching. The seats are small, but that is to be expected from a historic venue. The staff were universally friendly and helpful. The security personnel were courteous and professional. The bathrooms were clean. Bar service was quick. Lots of paid parking lots within an easy walk of the theater (most seems to be about $10), and if you get there early enough, street parking too (e-meters paid through ParkMobile app Monday-Friday 8a-6p only). I will happily return to the Lyric for future shows.

Tickets were half as much as they were in Atlanta so I drove to Birmingham for a mini-break! Parking can be pre-purchased online starting at $20 but there was a line of cars to enter so arrive early. Even though I had $25 nosebleed seats (shoutout to Live Nation's 1/2 off sale), the screens made it easy to see and the acoustics were great! Both performers were AMAZING! The line moved fairly quickly and I had no issues with security or staff (unlike State Farm). But an end row seat meant I had to frequently stand to to let people in. Patrons were super friendly. We all sang along to Maze's "Before I Let Go" as we exited. Rest in heaven Frankie Beverly.. I didn't order anything or use the restrooms so I can't comment on the amenities or food yet. The late great John Denver performed the first concert at the BJCC coliseum (known today as the Legacy Arean) on Sept. 28, 1976! Growing up, the BJCC was a big entertainment destination because few and far between were the "great" entertainment acts who visited my hometown of Huntsville, AL. Over the years, I've seen lots of great acts at the BJCC, including Van Halen [pre Van Hagar days] numerous times starting in August 1981, the legendary The Who on November 30, 1982, Kid Rock numerous times, and attended an excellent Alanis Morisette show here! It's nice to have the Uptown Entertainment District nearby and the extensive modernization of the arena in 2020 enhanced the lighting and sound systems, concessions, and amenities for artists. The I-65 traffic is intense. Our 1:00pm departure was delayed by ten minutes to allow extra time for guests to board. There are plenty of train cars to choose from - open air or air conditioned. We opted for the open air to get the full experience. It was about an hour and half ride RT. We got a great view of the neighboring golf course and a local vineyard. The gift shop carries awesome train themed gifts as well as local Alabama themed gifts. The train depot house a small exhibit about the history of rail. There is a neat video on the Louisville & Nashville lines that used to run through Birmingham. A must see in the area.

The wine tasting in itself was nice, but it felt very rushed due to the train being late. We barely had finished the tasting by the time she was pouring the next one in our glass... The star of the show. the bourbon & beignets... the bourbon was.. well. bourbon. but the beignets looked and tasted as if they had been taken out of a little debbie package. so disappointing... it was not even comparable to a true beignet. tasted more like a twinkie with grape jelly in it... They are so many different rooms and staged displays for you to snap pictures and videos. My kids loved the upside down room. My husband and I enjoyed the throne room. Actually, we truly loved it all! There are so many colors and textures. It is something you have to experience. Even with the Coronavirus on the loose, we still felt very safe. The exhibits are appropriately spaced and there are so many of them so it is easy to social distance. Masks are required when you're not taking a picture. There's hand sanitizer available and they limit the number of people allowed in the venue. Of course, they also clean the rooms and props. I foresee a lot of photo shoots and parties being done here. I talked with some of the people in charge and they said the rooms will change monthly so that dope! It's an ever changing experience so you will want to come back again and again!
