It was full of energy and the costumes were great I practically pissed my pants. The group of adults we were with chickened out and asked for an exit. One of the performers said "are you serious" we ducked ahead and just kept screaming/peeing. .

Here is our favorite haunted houses in order: 1) Netherworld 2) Nightmare's Gate 3) Atrox 4) Paranoia 5) Hellbilly Hollow 6) Nightmare 3008 7) Warehouse 31 8) Hollis Haunted Chicken House 9) Insanitarium 10) Sloss Furnace 11) Mountain Creek Trail of Fear 12) Folklore (only BAD haunt we went to) 9) Insanitarium "Good for a Small Haunt" (7.5 out of 10) (Friday night) Total time on site: 45 minutes....Total time in haunt: 16 minutes All the employees were very friendly. The wait line is in what appears to be a gym and the setup is pretty good and there were 4 different monsters walking/jumping around. Once we got into the room prior to entering the haunt a girl dressed in costume told the group a story about this machine she had been building etc. Once we entered the haunt we weaved our way through many hallways and rooms. I can't say there was a set theme for the haunt, it was more like each room was themed a certain way. There were some good effects used from drop down walls, to lighting tricks, a ghost on a wire that slid across the ceiling, to guys in dresses (not sure why guys were in the dresses), and weaved inside, outside, and back inside. There was no "wow factor" to the haunt like many of the haunts we have been to, but there were plenty of surprises and I screamed plenty of times. The total walkthrough time was 16 minute. Overall I am glad we went, but I wouldn't drive an hour from Calera just to go to it, but if you happen to be on that side of town it's worth going to.

September 29th, 2017 Atlanta area Haunted House Excursion…read more My husband & I normally go to Netherworld every October, but we decided to hit as many haunted houses in the Atlanta area as we could in a night. So Friday, September 29th at 2 pm we left Birmingham headed to the Atlanta area. In this order, we went to Netherworld, Paranoia, Folklore, Nightmare's Gate, and Haunted Chicken House. I am going to give a brief review of each of the haunts that we visited so that anyone else that may be interested in checking them out will have an idea if they are worth visiting. I am also including the haunted houses we visited in central Alabama to give a list of how each haunt ranked in comparison to all the others we visited this season. Here are our favorite haunted houses in order: 1) Netherworld 2) Nightmare's Gate 3) Atrox 4) Paranoia 5) Hellbilly Hollow 6) Nightmare 3008 7) Warehouse 31 8) Hollis Haunted Chicken House 9) Insanitarium 10) Sloss Furnace 11) Mountain Creek Trail of Fear 12) Folklore (only BAD haunt we went to) 8) Haunted Chicken House- "Most Unique" (7 out of 10) Total time on site 50 minutes The Hollis Haunted Chicken House offers 3 things. A haunted trail, haunted hayride, and haunted chicken house. We arrived 10 minutes before closing so we were too late to do the haunted hayride, but we did buy tickets for the haunted trail and haunted chicken house. It was obvious as we talked to different workers and listened to different people talking that this is mostly a friend and family haunt. While going through the haunted woods one of the actors was a young boy and at one point we heard him whisper "Dad" to someone in the shadows. So it was definitely a different experience knowing that this isn't just a business with employees. The place is way out in the middle of nowhere in Heflin AL so that in itself was spooky. By the time we exited the haunted chicken house, it was 12:38 am and they were closing down, the gift shop was closed, and a lot of the actors were gathered around talking to each other. We were then able to listen to the owner (an elderly man) talk to all the staff, which was interesting to be able to listen in on. We went up to a couple of workers and told them we really wanted a shirt, but that the gift shop was closed by the time we got out of the haunt. She went and got the keys from the owner and got us some shirts which was really nice. These people really went out of their way...I would say they were "good ole' country folk". We did the haunted trail first and honestly with it being so late I think some of the actors had already called it quits...we were literally the last 2 people to go through the haunts. The woods were dark; it was almost impossible to see, which wasn't a bad thing, but more actors would have been a lot better. I think we had the same 4 people trying to scare us the whole way through. At one point the little boy with a monster mask on came running toward us and a guess the mix of darkness and his mask he couldn't see where he was going and ran into me...it didn't hurt, but it was humorous hearing a monster say "ouch". We got lost a few times because they had some dead ends worked into it. At one point one of the monsters had to show us the way. They also used guns to add effect and it was really loud having a gun go off a few feet from us. The trail took us 12 minutes to complete. All in all, it wasn't worth the price, but it was still fun because it was the only outdoor haunt we had done. The second and main haunt was the haunted chicken house. I must say this was the most unique haunted house we have gone in. It started with a bunch of false doors. We went through 3 or 4 different rooms that appeared to have doors/doorways into another room, but they all were dead ends. It probably took us 5 minutes to figure out how to get out of there...and the way out was only accessible after the monster came out of that door to scare us. We continued through the chicken house to find several unique scenes and setups, none of which were your usual haunted house props. About ¾ the way through we ended up in complete darkness with many twists, turns, and long corridors. A group ran into us and said they had been lost for around 15 minutes. We then ran into 2 other groups who were lost as we were trying to find our way out. Many people had given up trying to find their way out and had resorted to using their cell phones as flashlights to help them. I directed us in the opposite direction as all of the lost groups and due to my intuition (I guess that's what it was), we found our way out pretty quickly. At the end was a chainsaw guy hiding in the dark, but I felt bad for him as he tried to start his chainsaw and it wouldn't start (maybe it ran out of gas). We exited the chicken house feeling like it was an enjoyable haunt with a good mix of scares, darkness, and confusion. We have never been in a haunt that tried so hard to confuse you. The haunt lasted 25 minutes.
