I attended the Valentine's Wheel Throwing Couples Special back in February 2020. Who knew this…read morewould be one of the last fun events for me, prior to Covid and without the masks and physical distancing! Now, it's a much cherished memory! Bonnie, who is the Charming Owner, prepared a truly amazing evening for us. It was only 4 couples, so we got a lot of attention from Two Experienced Instructors. My husband and I did try working with the rolled-out clay before, but we wanted to try the wheel throwing and that was exactly what this evening was about! And it is true what everyone says: it is very very difficult, even though it looks simple at a first glance. With some much needed help, we were able to take a few cups and dishes home. The atmosphere was lovely. There was a table with delicious snacks (cheese plate and crackers, dips, and lovely sweets, including chocolate covered strawberries!) for us and complimentary wine and bubbles. That surely boosted my confidence, as neither me, nor my husband had any clue about the wheel throwing and centering :) The Instructors were very patient, if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be able to do anything, as it turned out I was hopeless with the wheel. It was a fun, hands-on night in a relaxing atmosphere, with music and wine. No prior experience was needed. The clay is unlimited, but you will not leave with your piece in hand, as it needs some drying, curing and baking. We left our pieces for glazing (they had a choice of several colors) and baking. They were ready for pick after several days. The clay is wet and messy, so don't come dressed up, it's a more casual feel. I am really interested in the many events Bonnie is organizing. The Cocktails and Clay series is very popular and sells out fast. Each time there is a different piece, so you can come multiple times. They also offer a more classic technique-forward course and many classes for kiddos! Throughout the pandemic, Bonnie had some awesome events, where you could pick a ready dish for painting at home etc. I am so looking forward to coming back at some point! There is nothing more relaxing than making your hands busy & dirty, and train your creative muscles, while forgetting the daily worries. Very relaxing and fun!

Their permanent collection is bigger than they have room to keep up so they're always rotating their displays. Definitely worth multiple visits.

As someone who has only recently devoted time to appreciating art, I am truly glad that the…read moreRichmond Art Museum (RAM) exists. The more research I put into local artists, the more I find source material from the Richmond area. That includes numerous artists that are from the Golden Era of Indiana Artists as well as the book written by the RAM curator Shawn Dingwerth. This free museum is open on Tuesdays through Saturday from 10 to 5. Parking is free in the lot on the north side of the building and on the street. The museum is attached to the school, so it has made due with size constraints and old building problems, but will be undergoing some large construction/renovation in 2017 to ensure better lighting (the current UV emitted by old lights is damaging) and climate control so that when space becomes available, more paintings will be able to be displayed. On my visit, the staff was very helpful and I had the opportunity to talk with the curator which I found quite interesting since I had read his book about the Richmond Group (local artists from the late 1800's to early 1900's) the week before. There are several galleries that have a theme for each: Ceramics, Contemporary, "Golden Age Artists", Portraits, and an exhibition hall. The lobby holds some of the large sculptures and paintings as well. The museum has an extensive program to reach out to local children to give them the opportunity to see the art first hand and learn. Programs are tailored to the age levels and focus on introducing different styles and cultures with each visit. The works themselves are truly representative of the different styles of art and serve as a time capsule of local artists that may be under appreciated by the current generation. Along with the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute and the Haan Mansion Museum in Lafayette, the RAM has preserved our State's cultural best. I look forward to returning to see the improvements and the new exhibits. Review #233

Paint nights have been pretty popular the last couple years, and this is a twist on that. Saw the sign out on the sidewalk a couple months ago and followed them on Facebook. Of course being The Lion King fan I am, I saw this event of "Jungle King" and had to go. Went step by step how to pain Simba on the tree (the one Rafiki paints). It was a 1.5hr event for the 8x10, and we finished a little before that. The owner was amazing, has a great sense of humor, and overall very helpful in completing your masterpiece. The establishment itself has a lot of paintings on the walls, beautiful and creative-- that you could decide to do during their business hours. Literally, during their hours, as long as they do not have a class going on, you can come in, grab a canvas and some paint, and paint whatever your heart desires. They will be around to help if you have questions (they do not paint it with you but can offer advice etc). Or, just paint whatever you want! The possibilities here are endless! For their events/classes, find them on Facebook!! They usually have something every week. It was very easy to RSVP online and pay for the tickets (which was $10 for 8x10 for this particular event) and the price is VERY reasonable!!! They get sent to your email, then you just show up on the day, give them your name and # of people that are going to paint, and paint away! They also have the option of calling and booking a private event for up to 30 people. This would be a great ladies night out or a fun way to spend time with friends, family, or co-workers. I will DEFINITELY be back here again, can't believe I didn't try this sooner!
