Paint a Piece has been a family tradition for our family for over six years. The selection of pottery to paint is extensive and the staff is helpful. My only criticism is towards the horrendous checking out process. I was the third person in line to check out and we waited in line for 38 minutes to be checked out. The two customers in front of me had extensive personalizations and several people came in to collect their pottery. The girls in the front were working their hardest to attend to all the needs of the store but with customers who have long personalization checklists and requests, the line was backed up around the door. It would be helpful and efficient if personalizations/pickups could be handled away from the cash register. Maybe when people check in or maybe in a separate checkout line or even in a form at the table! read more

We found a Groupon and jumped on in the chance to come here. Fun and inviting. It was a lot of us and we had the private painting area. Where they host parties and etc. Also, families are separated for Social Distancing. There is Sanitizer available. Masks are required. The workers fully explain how everything goes and so many choices of paint and textures and brush techniques that is available. This would be good just for the kids or a birthday party. We had a great time painting! Although it was a little pricey, it was fun. The studio was clean and the staff was helpful.

I visited here last night with my bunko group of girls for our annual holiday outting. I have been to other "pottery painting" places around town a few times so I knew what to expect as far as the process goes. The two young girls working were very patient and more than willing to help us out with selecting our pottery pieces and paint. Our group consisted of 11 and there were others there as well and they handled everyone with ease. Location is a little difficult to find (especially at night). It is located on Poplar between Target and Fresh Market. Traveling east, if you pass Fresh Market then you have gone too far. The cost can be a bit pricey depending on your pottery selection. I chose a medium sized square plate that totaled $25 (including paint and tax). This time of year they do have some pretty inexpensive holiday ornaments that are priced under $10 that make super-cute gifts. read more

Fun times with family and friends on separate occasions. First time I went to Paint a piece was for their vintage Christmas tree painting session. I went with a group of girlfriends in the evening. We brought snacks and since it was byob we brought wine. Who knew you could paint a pottery tree for 2 hrs. Anyways- the time flew by. The Ladies who were there giving instructions were super helpful and took us through the steps with a bunch of patience. The second time I visited was with my 3 yr old son to paint a donut bank. Now his attention span for arts and crafts is about 15 mins so make sure you don't pick something to paint that takes longer, like I did. Otherwise you will have a toddler trying to paint all types of things that don't need to be painted. But other than that he had so much fun and loved it when he received the finished product a week later. I have also visited one other time and had another great experience. If you are going in for a special painting project or want to plan a group event, make sure you call ahead and see if they have space and availability. Other than that- have fun! read more

I planned an adult party there for my sister in law's bachelorette party since it was a wide range of ages. Overall yes we had a good time, but were somewhat disappointed. We were informed prior to come early since we were choosing our our paintings and not all doing the same thing. Our party was at 3 we arrived around 2:40 and had chosen our paintings by 2:50 at the latest. No one came in to let us know the process or what we need to be doing. I left the group multiple times to let them know we were ready or to ask questions. We did not receive our tracings until about 3:20 so we are already quite behind. Two girls in our group were quite artistic so they had no trouble, but the rest of us were there to have fun but were quite lacking in the art department. I was under the impression someone would be there to guide us, give us some tips and tricks throughout the party. We were basically on our own from the beginning. When we asked how to start or what is the best way to begin the worker said however you want... We were checked in on every 30 minutes or so to see if we had questions. I asked multiple questions and got the same reply "however you want to paint it..." they were very nice employees don't get me wrong, but this is not helpful. Of course none of us finished on time. They did let us sit out in the common area to finish, but again very little actual advice / expertise. Overall we did leave with great paintings and had a good time with each other. read more

My son attended a party at this establishment this weekend, and we had a wonderful time! I have attended parties at similar venues before, but none quite like Paint a Piece. The two girls working the party, Sophie and Colleen, were outstanding with the kids and the parents. The party room is vibrant and well decorated, with lots of different pieces for the kids to paint. I really enjoyed that the kids were able to play outside with sidewalk chalk when they were finished painting. I will definitely keep you guys in mind when booking my son's party later this year! Fun to get a group together and paint. Doesn't matter if you have a lot of talent or no talent at all. The main problem here is price. It is so pricey to paint, lets say, a platter. Then you go to a store and wonder how they can sell them at such a low price. That said, it's fun to do. Just wish it were a lot more economical. read more

I was very excited about going here because of the great things I had heard but I can truly say that this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I had a large group with the private room with an instructor. However, the instructor was was never there, we had to keep Beckoning for her when we needed her because she was busy socializing and eating. She provided no true guidance. It was just a horrible experience. I have been to other places similar and the experience was great. The instructor was by our side and provided input as well guidance. Will definitely not be going again will stick to the other places. read more

So my first painting experience was with Seize the Clay, but I decided to give Paint a Piece a try since it was closer to my house. After my experience at Paint a Piece, I think I will suck it up and make the drive out to Seize the Clay. I went into Paint a Piece to paint something for my mom. The girl who greeted me was nice enough and helped me find what I was looking for. My friend came in to meet me and we both worked on our paintings. Since we didn't finish the first day, we had to go back. Two days later we went back and this time there were 3 young girls working. One I believe was new, since they seemed to be training her. While we were painting I could hear the girls talking and one of them proceeds to cuss. At the time there were a good many children in the shop. None of the girls working seemed to want to be there. When my friend went up to pay, the 3 of them were standing at the register talking. She told them she was ready to check out and they proceeded argue about who was going to check her out right in front of her. I was shocked. My friend and I are in our 20's. I am not sure if the girls thought we were younger and we wouldn't notice a total lack of professionalism or respect for the customers or if they were not properly trained in customer service. When I went to pick up my piece, the owner was there and she also did not seem to provide friendly service. My piece also had a few chips in it when I picked it up. They had stacked a few different pieces together. Seize the Clay has everything spaced out in order to prevent cracks and chips. They seem to take better care of their customer's pieces. I never do reviews but I just was so shocked at my experience at Paint a Piece v.s Seize the Clay. Another thing I like about Seize the Clay is that they don't have a fee when you come back to finish your painting. At Paint a Piece you have to pay another $3 every time you come back to finish your piece. The employees at Seize the Clay are much more approachable and much more professional. Not sure how likely it will be for me to go back to Paint a Piece, but if you have a choice I say drive to Seize the Clay. read more
