The vibe is relaxed and nice. - We started with an order of the meatballs, which an extra one, for the four of us...they were excellent, as was the bread they came with. - Between the four of us, we split two pizzas, the Zucchini Ricotta and the La Del Chef. Both were tasty, and the differences between them made them the perfect combination. - We ordered two different bottles of wine, starting off with a white and then switching to a red. The wine list was really great, with a lot of options and the bottle prices were very affordable. - Service was incredible. In fact, our server asked us if we really wanted the red wine as it might be a little warm, which enabled us to have it chilled a bit until we had finished the bottle of white. I don't know about you, but we've been to even higher end restaurants where the server doesn't have a clue regarding the proper wine temperture...we were really impressed here. To give you some background context we live on Calle Loiza so we frequent a lot of these restaurants on the main strip. Even before her birthday I had been on a quest to find some a godo meatball sub. Biga does not make a meatball sub however they make a meatball pizza. When we walked in and they placed the menu in front of us my mouth began to salivate like I was a hyena following a pack of lions during the dry season on the Serengeti. No lie the way my stomach twisted up and I began drooling while looking at the menu I was ready to kick open the door to the kitchen and stick my hand in the brick oven and pull everything out and stuff it with no qualms into my face. The scents wafting from the kitchen had me ready to fight the chef barefoot in a parking lot full of glass for whatever they were concocting in the back. Once my lady saw the look in my eyes and asked me if I was ok we decided on drinks. Now there aren't Espresso martini's on the menu per se but my lady spotted the industrial grade espresso machine behind the bar. She's very particular with her's and always keeps an eye on the bartender to make sure there are 3 beans in there. Now personally I myself am not a vodka person but according to her this was the 2nd be espresso martini on the island outside of LaLa (Bad Bunny's restaurant located in the mall of San Juan) Something about seeing the espresso coming out of a machine that looks like it was imported from Italy just gave the drink the extra oomph. I had a drink called the drunken monkey or something like that, I remember looking at the menu and reading the ingredients and thinking this is probably the most dangerous drink on the island. Had we just not left a bar prior to coming to Biga I would have ordered 17 of those monkey drinks. The owner/manager lady that seated us ended up taking our food order. By this point she could have told me the special was sautéed roadkill, the way everyone else's food looked and smelled I was ready for whatever the chef put in front of us. We started off with the Hummus with the fresh baked Naan and lamb, the mussels, and the bacon wrapped dates. I apologize for how explicit this next part is going to be as I describe the food. THE FUCKING HUMMUS W THE LAMB. imagine going to Dubai as a billionaire, You're on a yacht with 20 models and bottles of Cristal. The servants come out and bring some platters of food. This is what they feed Sheiks and Crown Princes before they have a "Dubai Chocolate Party" on the models. I felt like middle eastern royalty eating this. My lady burned her hand on the Naan because it was that fresh out the oven. 1,000 out of 10. Same can be said for the bacon wrapped dates. In my heart of hearts I know bacon is Haram but the way they made it taste I'm pretty sure the prophet would have let it slide. Now best bacon wrapped dates I''ve had on the island are from Graziani on Calle Cerra but they gave them a run for their money. But it was her birthday so we needed to enlarge our backs as much as possible. We got the meatball pizza. It was so good that you can see we are missing 2 slices before we could take a photo. Now here is my only point of contention with the entire meal. My lady loves Brick oven pizza. We are both from NY. I ONLY consider NY style pizza real pizza. I'm not from Naples or Genova. Screw the "authentic" shit. Give me a slice from a sweaty Armenian guy behind the counter with 2 Salvadorans, a Colombian and a Mexican working in the back. (Real NY'ers know Bronx Little Italy has 3 Italians left) However this brick oven pizza did stand out for me because it tasted like it had a sour dough starter going on. The dough was amazing.
