Staff's always been great, plenty of parking (shared with other businesses like the steak pit), and easy to find! The inside has an old home feeling to it, so don't expect anything modern like a Hilton. There's no pool either, but a very very limited gym. Every time I go to a race nearby, Paddle Wheel Inn is my go to spot. It's perfect for a quick stay and lots of things near by (3miles ish). My only complaint would be that the shower's a bit small for an already small person. read more

I was incredibly disappointed. I called ahead and explained we were coming out for meteor shower and asked to be placed in a darker area. Our room was directly across from the brightly lit gazebo that was on for most of the night. I rented directly from the website and reserved a whirlpool room at $150. The whirlpool jets looked as though they haven't been cleaned in a long while and it was too gross to use. After the fact, I learned that similar rooms were going for $70 on third party sites. The cable did not work for the entire evening and everyone that works there locks up and goes home at 8 pm, so there is no one to assist. If you get locked out, there is a number you can call that's given to you in a lengthy welcome document. It was disappointing for the cost. read more

We had a nice standard room at the Paddle Wheel. It was extremely clean and comfortable. Everything worked as it should, fridge, microwave, hot water. The scenery on the river was very nice. We were here on a golf trip, so we didn't spend a whole lot of time here. The Blackhawk Steakhouse across the parking lot we did visit, and it was the best char-grilled steak I've ever had. It's fine. Nothing fancy to write home about. It's clean and good enough for a nights stay. I came here for a wedding in town for September. Check in was easy enough. I got there early around 6pm to check in to our room which was a standard with 2 queens. It is not updated room. It's very outdated with old furniture and bedding. The bathroom is outdated too. But the water works, it's clean and it gets the job done. You don't get a continental breakfast and you do not get WiFi. You just get free coffee. Price point is very high for what you are getting but it's better hotel in the area. Customer service is great here. read more

This is a fine place to spend a night. It's clean. Furnishings are dated. Wi-Fi grows spottier the further you are removed from the desk. Two restaurants practically onsite. 24-hour coffee. We are traveling in the midst of the 2020 pandemic. We're thankful this place is still open. The site is perfect ~ situated on the river with a great view of the Blackhawk statue. Lovely, peaceful riverside deck for reading or watching the water flow by. Some rooms (not ours) face the river. Lilac is in bloom and perfumes the well-kept grounds. Plentiful free parking. No breakfast included, but adorable bakery downtown. In pandemic season, we arrived to a locked front door (we were given some instructions for check-in by phone earlier in the day, and were warned no one would be on site.) Even with the instructions, we had to get creative to get in! Even so, we were able to locate and enter our room. We never encountered any hotel staff in person. They were polite and helpful on the phone. Not great for a business traveler (unless all you need to do is sleep) but picturesque, inexpensive, clean place to stay on a sweet town. read more

Night 1 - two bed room. Changed us (pretax)$10 more than quoted. Room had nails sticking out of trim that we caught ourselves in few times. Door would not latch closed. Night 2- moved to smaller room (1 bed )and charge (pretax)$20 more than told when making reservation. Dirty room. TV's in both rooms were small computer monitors. Asked front desk to speak to manager and was denied. Went to talked to front desk host and had to track her down from her smoking a cigarette outside. We would recommend driving a little farther and finding a different different place to stay. read more

Was hoping it would be nicer---No housekeeping during our stay (which meant no clean towels or garbage removed). Also hotel was staffed at a bare minimum. Front door was unlocked at night so could be a safety issue- FYI. As others have stated, it's dated. Sad because there aren't a lot of choices to stay. read more

We were looking for a place to stay right in Oregon, IL and though there are few options, things worked out for us at the Paddle Wheel. We got a riverview double queen room. The hotel and the room seems newly redone on the interior - cable TV was still being setup (we didn't care), but wifi was up and reliable during our stay. Large bathroom with a second vanity sink outside. Also included were two comfy sofa chairs along with a round table which you could arrange for a comfortable indoor view of the river with drinks/snacks. In comparison to other hotels - no breakfast (24 hr coffee yes) and no pool (sauna/gym only), but you trade that for a low priced river view and balcony. If we were staying longer, stock the fridge and put the microwave to use as needed to spend some quiet hours enjoying the view. You've got restaurant options in town and nearby - including breakfast, so that wasn't an issue for us. read more

If you go here, keep a copy of your bill for at least a couple credit card billing cycles. Of the four people that I know who stayed here(myself included), three were overcharged or charged for more nights than they stayed. In my case, I checked out and paid for my one night, then they altered the receipt to show that I signed to pay for two nights. My credit card company saw that the receipt was forged and I didn't have to pay. But, still, that's not cool. Nice hotel, otherwise. read more

Like other reviewers, I was overcharged for my room. They told me my card was declined, but the charges went through on my account. I don't think this was a deliberate scam on their part, but their system for processing payments seemed pretty iffy--which is in keeping with everything else about the place, really. My very honest 10-yo daughter described the place as "dodgy" the moment she laid eyes on it. She isn't wrong. The response from front desk staff, including the general manager, regarding the disputed charges was argumentative, unprofessional, rude, and showed an obvious indifference to customer service. The room itself seemed cheaply appointed and maintained with the same indifference shown by the front desk. Everything about the place, from the decor to housekeeping to the coffee, seems almost carefully designed to rise just precisely to the level of "barely good enough to be considered OK". The net effect of that much studied mediocrity makes one feel stranded in a desperate pit of despair. read more

Our stay in October 2014 was a nightmare. We went to nearby Lowden State Park for a family reunion during the day and made reservations at the Paddlewheel Inn for the evening. We checked in at 3pm to leave our bags in the room. Upon arrival in the room (supposedly one of their best with a jacuzzi tub) we found about 50-100 Japanese beetles, some dead but most alive, on the walls and around the window and sill inside the room. We cleaned up the insect mess and told the desk clerk. The only response was, "They're pretty common at this time of the year and really annoying." We went back to the park for the remainder of the evening and went back to the room about 9pm. We tried to fill the jacuzzi tub for use and the drain plug wouldn't close. We contacted the desk clerk who came to the room with a screwdriver. He bent the stem on the drain and broke it and merely said, "That will probably come out of my check." He apologized and left the room. We then got ready for bed and nearly sank into the old mattress. After trying for an hour to fall asleep and couldn't because of the mattress we decided to leave for home an hour away. When we checked out around 11pm the same desk clerk who broke the the jacuzzi said he would refund the $108 we paid for the room but he needed to see our credit card again. He swiped our card and said the refund should go through. Needless to say, weeks later we found the refund credit didn't go through. Several subsequent calls to the manager went unanswered. If you ever think about staying here, run do not walk away from this place. It's a freaking nightmare. There are better places to stay in the area....even if it's in a tent at a state park. We gave this a one star rating as we don't think Yelp allows no stars which is what it really deserves. read more

Read the reviews about bad WiFi so I carefully emailed and called weeks in advance asking to be put in a room closer to front desk where it is supposedly better. They ignored that request and put us in a far away room which had zero WiFi. Closer rooms had zero also. The cell service is bad also. We checked out of the hotel without having unpacked. The agent told us in writing we would not be charged. They charged us anyway. We called several times to speak to management. No return calls. No credit back to our MasterCard. Don't stay here - they are clueless beyond belief. read more

We went to this inn as wedding guests. The ceremony was beautiful with the idyllic backdrop of the Rock River. The inn staff were friendly and quaint; it had a mom and pop vibe. The chairs were set up on the dock but they were filthy. Although the ceremony was brief, when we rose to leave, our bottoms were stained with white dust. We stayed overnight and our room was musty, damp, and the shower door did not close properly. The elevator took ages to come up (there is only one). We had a room facing the parking lot (other guests suggested we splurge for one facing the water). read more

After being in the car for over 24 hours straight, I pulled into Oregon not sure where I would be staying. I had called the hotel and Jocelyn was a very kind lady who had assisted me well on the phone. When I arived at the paddle wheel inn she was also the one to help me, I had explained I was in town for work and needed a few rooms for atleast the next 5 days. She was great helped me set the rooms up for my Co works. Along with my own room. She was very kind and very helpful meaning I wasn't from the area and had just drove from maine. Just OK. Not particularly friendly. Avoid the 'breakfast'. Smells of chemical cleaners. Otherwise an OK motel.

Stayed here for a friend's wedding. Thought it would be nice to have a whirlpool room. The whirlpool is an oversized tub in the bathroom. $5 charge for the unplugged refrigerator!!! The Monday after returning home, we notice a $225 charge pending on our credit card. When we inquired, the manager claims we burned a blanket and comforter. We did not smoke in the room. We had friends over that night and they can attest that we smoked outside. We had enough courtsey to throw the butts in the rooms garbage and not on the patio as others before us had done. The manager was quite unreasonable and adament that we did smoke in the room with no credible evidence, only circumstantial evidence that quite possibly was from a previous guest. We won't be back, I'll be sure to let all that I know not to go here. read more

I will never stay here again. The hotel itself is not bad but the front desk manager was unbelievably rude from day 1. I went in to ask for room information to book my wedding. She made me feel as though I was just another bitchy bride and she treated me as such. I was a waste of her time. I'd received good service from the other front desk employees so I figured she just had a chip on her shoulder. Little did I know, she would intentionally screw me out of $700. I had never blocked off rooms before and she had me reserve the rooms, leading me to believe they were the same thing. I called before the cut off date to cancel room reservations but the manager was not there so I was not able to do so. When I called the following day, she stated that I was past the cut off time and stated that she would've had this figured out a long time ago if she were me. My mom called shortly thereafter and was told that I was told about but declined a cancelation fee. When asked what the cancelation fee was, it's the rate of the room. When my guests called to reserve some of my rooms, they were turned away stating that they were not on the "list" or that they needed a confirmation number. 2 things they did not inform me of. It was all a scam. I wound up paying for several rooms I did not use while my guests stayed in other rooms. When they asked to be put in one of my rooms, they were told that a cancelation fee would be applied. For the hotels mistake. Figure that one out. The continental breakfast was a joke! Little Debbie snacks, cold cereal and warm sour milk. I should've read the reviews before I'd come. Do yourself a favor and READ REVIEWS.
