Owners were very easy to work with! Cabin was was very clean and every detail taken care of. Will definitely be back!!

We have a group of us that have stayed here several times. This year we had to cancel our reservations on August 1 for our October 20-22 weekend. 2 days later we were all charged a $50.00 cancellation fee for a total of $200.00. Just wanted everyone to note their cancellation policy. We had given over 70 days notice that we were unable to make our trip this year, but it doesn't matter the $50.00 is their set cancellation fee. I would also mention that the air quality in the log cabins is awful!! We opened our windows, bought air fresheners and nothing got rid of the musty moldy smell that permeated the cabin and irritated our sinuses and lungs. This was not a one time experience, we noticed the smell on at least 2 of our stays among several cabins. It was so bad that the last reservation (cancelled one), we had all booked their other cabins, not the log cabins. I have told our group to count me out if they decide to go back, just left a bad vibe with me. read more

My husband and I stayed here relatively soon after it opened, as a mini-getaway. It was SO nice, quiet, and just the perfect little place to get some rest. We came to Hickory Hideaway on the recommendation of another business in a nearby town. We could not have been more pleased that we came here. Cabin is clean and attractively decorated. Location is pastoral and quiet, and two small town are nearby for dinning and grocery necessities. Our cabin had a micro wave, fridge and sink for food prep. Two beds in two separate rooms, and a large jacuzzi. Our deck overlooks a field and woods and there is a fire pit and hot tun near by. What really sealed the deal for us were the owners. Very nice, and welcoming. We ended up sitting around the fire pit with them and chatting like old friends. My wife and i had a wonderful time here and would definitely come back when we are in the area. read more

Hickory Hideaway Cabins.... I cannot say enough about how perfectly happy it is to be here. Its a gorgeous property that provides the most relaxing, comfy experience. The cabins were so comfortable, Sherry & George were amazing, and the property is beautiful. I travel a lot. That being said, I did not have high expectations but this place is not impressive. For the same price I have stayed in a variety of very comfortable quarters in many different cities. This place is in the middle of nowhere. Horseback riding, ski resorts, and snowmobiling are all at least an hour away. It was just alright and I'm not trying to be mean or rude (just honest). To be fair, the owners are nice and helpful. But... would I be back??? That is the question. read more

I was part of a reunion group for a Summer Stock theatre nearby -- we commandeered 8 of the cabins for a summer weekend and it was magical. I am by no means an outdoorsperson, so I was a little nervous about staying in cabins in the woods, but the place was perfect. The owners, George and Cherie, could not have been nicer or more accommodating, and the cabins were more glamping than camping -- nicely appointed, with terrific air conditioning (which truthfully was not needed at night), huge beds, a cosy kitchen area and jacuzzis! Each cabin was spaced far enough apart to ensure privacy, but the whole little complex was close enough to feel communal. We had a grand time swinging on the wooden swings around a camp fire. So much fun -- quiet, beautiful, with a lovely view of the rolling hills nearby. I would certainly go back again! read more

Spent a long weekend at Hickory Hideaway in one of the luxury cabins. Cabins are well appointed and very comfortable. The beds are amazingly cozy, you may not want to get up. Each cabin is decorated so lovely and quaint. Even though cabins are close together - it still feels like you are in your own little world. Our cabin had a whirlpool tub that was fabulous and so relaxing. If you need a romantic getaway, away from the hustle and bustle this is the place to go. There is not a lot really close to HH, but the office has a lot of games, books, DVDs if you so choose. The cabins do not have cable or Dish, but really you are not here to watch TV but relax. WiFi is available in each cabin. If you so choose the owners will give you some suggestions to local towns if you decide to go shopping or exploring for the day. Or you can star watch if it is a clear night or sit by the fire. We can't wait to come back. It has been a stressful time and this helped me and my husband relax and get away from "reality" for a little bit. read more

We got to spend a night away from the city at hickory hideaway- george and sherri were welcoming and hospitable. The cabin was in good taste- wood interior, tile and nice carpet floor, heated by gas fireplace. The hot tub had an endless supply of hot water set to your specific temperature. George also set some dry wood out and we had a small bonfire that night, and then took in the full moon in a midnight walk through their field. Its a really beautiful part of illinois to visit and relaxing. The bed was wicked comfortable, top 3 most comfortable beds all time. Two notes- it really is far out there, so bring your own good food or you may end up eating at a place called Poopy's pub. Also bring your own dvds / netflix / gift for storytelling- there is no cable. It's a hideaway. read more

My wife and I visited Hickory Hideaway to get away from Chicago for a night (less than a 2.5 hour drive). We stayed in one of their "luxury cabins" which was very affordable and exactly as advertised. Fireplace, hot tub, TV/DVD/stereo (I think it even had surround sound!), microwave, and fridge--everything you need to lock yourselves in for the weekend. On top of all that, the proprietors, George and Sherry, were ridiculously kind. They have a massive, up to date DVD collection in their office that they encourage you to help yourself to, great suggestions for activities on the grounds and in the local community, and they are also respectful of your privacy. If you go, I would just suggest that you bring your food and snacks--we tried to make a late night food run, but had to settle for what we could find at a little gas station (the place is pretty rural, which I guess is the point, right?). I would also note that their website is really good and includes pretty thorough photos and availability calendars for each cabin. We're looking forward to the chance to get out there during the warm weather months. read more

7/11/14: What a great place!!! My wife and myself never go to a place without looking at the reviews. For some reason we looked at the web pages and booked the room with out looking at reviews. That must have been due to all the effort and great job on the web page. We felt if they put that much into the web page the place must be great. My wife booked the room with George and after words looked at the reviews. OMG all the reviews where great and we must say George and Sherry made you feel like part of the family ( the ones you like ). They where so great! Sherry checked us in and took us to the cabin. You could tell the pride she had for the place and it showed in both the presentation and the way the cabin was done. Spotless and beautiful. We felt as if we where at a 5 star resort. I can not express how great it was. Thank you again for allowing us to stay at a great place. read more

My wife and I were looking for a relaxing weekend a little bit "off the grid," and Hickory Hideaway had just what we needed. First of all the owners, George and Sherry (sp?), were extremely nice and helpful. George answered my many questions about what to do in the area (I'm not familiar with Shannon, IL), and both he and Sherry were amicable and easy going. As far as the lodging itself, we rented a Whirlpool Cottage, which is just one of three different kinds of cabins available on the premises, and we were pleased with the accommodation. The cottage was clean, nicely furnished, and cozy. Did I mention there's a whirlpool? Because there is, and it's great! As a word of caution, you will have to drive to most of the things to do around Hickory Hideaway, so plan to be in your car for some (mostly limited) time. The trips for us were all worth the car ride, with hiking in the Mississippi Palisades State Park being a highlight. read more

We spent the first two nights of our honeymoon at Hickory Hideaway. It was a perfect retreat. Nicely Secluded. The hot tub in the cabin was great and the hot water system allowed you to instantly adjust the temperature for maximum comfort. Our hosts were pleasant and warm. We will visit again! read more

We had such a wonderful time with the children! We came from Chicago and it was an easy drive. Once we got out onto the country roads, it was peaceful & heavenly - such a treat to get away from the big city! The owners are so lovely & could not have been more hospitable and friendly AND accommodating! The grounds are beautiful & the cabins are delightful, perfectly rustic chic. We roasted marshmallows, went horse back riding, played games on the grounds - or we could have just relaxed in the cabins - but wanted to make the most of our night. We would have loved to have stayed longer, but only had a night to get away. The cabins are lovely, comfortable & charming - we slept so well! We will be back! read more
