It pains me a little to give this place a bad review, but it feels necessary. My boyfriend and I were excited to try one of the river kayaking tours, fully aware of the "all purchases are final" policy. However, I didn't expect my father to end up in the hospital with serious injuries and my boyfriend and I to contract a nasty intestinal virus, both in the same emotionally taxing week. I felt like this was an extreme case.
I emailed and called the company to explain what happened and to reason with them about rescheduling, because my boyfriend and I really wanted to go kayaking, but they were inflexible. The woman on the phone asked me to wait a day while she checked with her supervisor, which I appreciated, but the next day she replied to my email recommending that I find two people to take our places.
Call me sensitive, but given the turbulence my family was going through, I found that appalling. That wasn't my priority while my dad was hospitalized and my boyfriend and I were in pain. Where's this organization's empathy? So while they have our money and are sticking with what I consider a strict, "customer, serve us" policy, I'm flexible enough to give my business to a different, more understanding organization.
Maybe one day Paddle the LA River will use this as an opportunity to show a little kindness in the future and reconsider how they run their business. read more
