    Paddle Dog Adventures Boat House
    Heather W.

So today was my 5 attempt at trying to use Paddle Dog Adventures to kayak the Little Harpeth River in Franklin. While the boat house at the Westhaven "Lake" is cute and they are making improvements (like a floating dock and stone wall) I have to say I do not understand how this business operates. My first attempt at scheduling a River Tour was when we rented kayaks at the "lake" (it really just looks like a large water runoff area to me of a pond by an extremely busy road) - first kayak had a leak, so did the second one...we eventually got 2 and went out...very easy and really great for small kids just learning to kayak. We wanted to schedule a River tour but were told to call or come back in person because the owner wasn't there- so we did call and stop by on several occasions during their listed hours of operation but no luck (Facebook, website, and Instagram all provide different information) - We finally were able to schedule a River trip - but once again no one was there! We waited 25 minutes and called but no luck- eventually we were told they forgot about us (and I guess no one else was scheduled and they were not opening the boathouse either but again no updates on the sign or website) They offered us 1 free voucher so we thought okay mistakes happen - but when we tried to schedule a River trip the same thing happened- they never were open or answering the phone. Well it was going to be a gorgeous weekend and we really wanted to kayak through Franklin so I tried once more...no response via phone but was able to schedule via text - Well we arrived all excited but once again boat house is closed and no other people are waiting for a trip...then we hear it - the shuttle van won't turn over - I hadn't received any call or text that they were experiencing car problems - well we thought it is just the 2 of us so we don't need the shuttle but nope - not able to bring us - the owner John was nice but clearly didn't remember any of our previous attempts to get a River trip - he offered a free trip voucher (keep in mind I was never able to use the first one) and of course we walk back to boat house for the voucher and he doesn't have any. So he gives a business card I was disappointed he didn't reschedule us for another date right then - I just don't understand how to actually be able to kayak in Franklin without purchasing all the gear and doing it ourselves. I really want to support local family businesses but I feel like we are jinxed and just not part of the inner Westhaven circle. So disappointed I will not schedule my weekend plans around PDA again they are just too unreliable.

The Pond doesn't disappoint. It is exactly what one would expect when seeking a dive bar atmosphere. A little ratty, a little rowdy and a whole lot of fun. The coup de grace was they had Guinness on tap, which was completely unexpected. We traveled to Franklin looking for an alternative to Broadway in Nashville on our first night in town. It is worth the trip. Franklin is a very old town with great old architecture and buildings over 200 years old that still look stunning. The Pond was the real reason for my drive down although it was our last stop on our tour of Franklin. The staff was friendly, the Hamburger and fries was delicious, and the beer was cold. They have many options to choose from on tap. They have Darts inside and a couch you'd find down in your friends basement that he found on a tree bank trash day, but that simply adds to the dive bar charm. We stayed for one drink and the burger as we were exhausted from a red eye flight the night before. If you're looking for a dive bar that stays open late and apparently gets packed as the night goes on, this is the spot for you. Most places close early in Franklin, so this is apparently the after hours spot that everyone ends up going to when all other options are closed. The Pond reminded me of a few dive bar spots in Vegas, and I have to recommend you pay them a visit, if for no other reason, just to say you've been there.

There's something special about sitting back with great food and drinks while listening to talented local musicians in such a historic, laid-back setting. The atmosphere is exactly what you hope to find in a small Tennessee town--welcoming, authentic, and full of character. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The food was delicious, the drinks were cold, and the live music truly made the visit memorable. It wasn't just background entertainment--it created an atmosphere that made us want to stay much longer than we planned. Fox & Locke perfectly captures the charm of Leiper's Fork. Whether you're a local or just exploring the area for the weekend, this is the kind of place that keeps you coming back. Great food, great people, and fantastic live music--what more could you ask for? Highly recommend!

It's a solid, casual meat-and-three that's become a gathering place for both locals and visitors. The friendly staff and frequent live music create a lively atmosphere, and if you're already coming to Leipers Fork for a show, it's a great place to grab a meal beforehand. The menu offers classic Southern comfort food with rotating daily specials. The pulled pork is one of the more consistent meats, although I've had it arrive perfectly tender on some visits and a bit dry on others. The second meat changes throughout the week, which keeps things interesting for repeat customers. I've worked my way through all of the sides, and the fried okra is easily my favorite. It's consistently served hot and crispy, though I think a signature seasoning blend would make it even better. The macaroni and cheese is another standout, although I've occasionally received it lukewarm. The sweet potato fries are also enjoyable but could use a little more crispness, and I think they'd really shine with a house-made dipping sauce like a hot honey mustard. The green beans appear to be canned, which doesn't personally bother me, but they leave an unusual aftertaste that keeps me from ordering them often. The collard greens have good flavor but tend to include more stems than I'd prefer. The baked beans lean savory rather than sweet, which may appeal to some diners, though I usually prefer sweeter baked beans with barbecue. The mashed potatoes are simple and would benefit from the option of either cream gravy or brown gravy. One item that always kept me coming back was the chicken fingers. For a long time, they were some of my favorites in the area--crispy, flavorful, and good enough that I've driven out from Nashville just to order them. Recently, however, the breading seems to have changed, and they haven't quite been the same. The onion rings are another reliable choice, arriving consistently crispy, though I think they'd be even better paired with a signature dipping sauce or seasoning. Overall, I think the atmosphere is what makes Fox & Lock special. The staff is consistently welcoming, the live music is excellent, and it's an important part of the Leipers Fork community. If you're visiting the area for the music or exploring the town, it's absolutely worth stopping in for a meal. While I don't think the food alone is worth making a special trip from Nashville, it's enjoyable comfort food in a fun setting and a place I'm sure I'll continue to visit.

But if you're looking for an authentic, old-school Nashville music experience, this IS the place! It's crowded. It's hot. Personal space does not exist. Claustrophobics should plan accordingly. The night we were there, they had a bluegrass jam going, and it was fantastic. Close your eyes and you could imagine yourself sitting in some West Virginia holler listening to a bunch of incredibly talented musicians just playing because they love to play.
