However, I had a really fun and fabulous time last weekend on the Harpeth River with a group of friends. This city girl can get down with nature...for just a few hours at least. I sincerely appreciated the options that vary from just 1 hour on the river on upwards to 12 hours for the advanced river rat. We opted for the 3.5 hour adventure and it was the perfect amount of water, beer, and paddling for this broad. I don't think that I'll ever be interested in the option of "on-site primitive camping or camping along the river bank." Call me a wimp, but a Heavenly Bed at the Westin sounds more my speed! Pricing is based per canoe and kayak and when we mentioned an "Internet Special" we enjoyed $10 off the price of a rental. For an afternoon of fun for 2 cost us around $45 which included the rental of the canoe, paddles, life preserves, and seat cushions. The staff was friendly and dropped us off at the docking point and helped us get into our canoes. The river was a fun and relaxing way to enjoy the weather and when I was feeling especially sporty, I put my jiggly arms to work by paddling like a mad-woman. I would imagine that this is the secret workout for Jennifer Anniston + Michelle Obama...how else would they get such sculpted biceps.? Just sayin. The rules of the river prohibit booze but I can assure you that our group were not the only ones that smuggled a case of PBR in our coolers + vodka in water bottles. The staff doesn't check coolers + backpacks so you can certainly bring your booze along with sandwiches, fruit, and Sun Chips of course! You can take the city out of the girl but NOT the vodka. TIP: Pets are also welcome. Chico + Bellini are totally going to be 2nd mates on the next outing!

Ambiance: 5/5 Very light and bright enjoyable ambiance. Cool commercial space with plenty of lanes. They also have several other parlor games set up that we had a lot of fun with. They also have local craft beers available for purchase. They do not have food here, however there are several food places in the immediate area. Games: 5/5 They have different spots on the targets and cards on the tables with various instructions for different games you can play in your axe lane. They also have leagues you can sign up for if you want to play competitively on a regular basis. Price: 5/5 The prices seemed pretty reasonable for an experience like this. I'm not sure how it compares to similar venues. The beers were $6-8, and we paid $17.50 per person/hour to throw axes. We went on a Thursday afternoon. For one it's much less busy and in the summers any bit of a temp drop is worth it. If you are physically up for it, you will sweat through your clothes. First course (green level) was interesting but ziplining is the best! Second course I chose was blue level and kicked my butt. Got pretty far but ended up taking an early exit. Great if you want to challenge yourself physically but not really for rock/wall climbing.

They sanction the controlled chaos, and on top of that, they serve beer! Putting axes in the hands of beer guzzling lumberjack wannabes sounds like a recipe for disaster. But to their credit, Faxons keep a close eye on their patrons. They'll even help with your technique. That's throwing technique. You're on your own with how you tip your glasses. You'll have your choice on who or what to chop up. You can toss a blade into the skull of a zombie or something more woodsy like a duck. You won't even need a hunting license. Just have your significant other fill out the permission slip (aka the waiver) so that you can participate in the carnage. If an axe is a little too extreme, you can try your hand at tossing a different dangerous projectile. They have a couple of dart boards just waiting for you to pierce their numbers. They come complete with chalkboard so that you can keep tally of how many holes you make. I'm guessing they'd prefer the holes in the boards rather than the wall. It's a family-friendly place for all you 12 and olders. That is if your family doesn't lean pacifist. Quick Tip: I wouldn't recommend wearing open toed shoes. There's always the chance of the beer that's lubricating your inside, finding its way onto the axe handle and making it as loose as you. But as I mentioned earlier, Faxons keeps a close eye on the proceedings. You should be able to make your way out with all your appendages still intact. And maybe even a few extra if you're seeing double after swilling down a few.

These guys are probably closer to four stars…read more We opted for the tubes recently. Pretty straightforward as far as picking your time/date and purchasing tix on line. There are also waivers on line that must be filled out. Staff was nice and helpful. They drive you and the tubes to a spot a little down river and off you go. Tubing is always good fun, but our experience suffered a bit due to 1). The heat, and 2). The sloooow moving current. We're talkin' almost stagnant in a few spots. We did beach ourselves a few times and took a cooling swim, which was nice. Neither of the two negatives were the fault of Broken Paddles, obviously. Speaking of which, they do give you a paddle which was a must for us. We'd probably still be out on the river. We didn't go for it (we should have), but they have coolers and cooler tubes for rent for "beverages." You text or call them when you reach the "first bridge." They pick you up at their get out spot a little farther down, after the "second bridge." We ended up getting out of the tubes and wading the last 1/4 mile. They have waterproof pelican boxes you can rent or phone bags for sale. You can leave your car keys with them. Pretty sure we'd go with the kayaks next time.
