Pad Thai never disappoints, tried some new dishes today. Enjoyed each and every one. The Tod Mun has an incredible sauce that comes with them. The papaya salad has a kick but so delicious. Basil Duck was so flavorful and generous amount of duck in the dish. Oh and not pictured is their amazing Thai Coffee, for a nice caffeine boost after a long day. They have fast, friendly, and dependable service every time. Definitely a little cozy but clean restaurant, so much love has gone into updating the place. read more

Tasty food, good service. I ordered lunch today from here because it's really close to where I work. I ordered chicken pad see ew with medium spice level. Lunch entrees also come with a side, so I opted for the Thai salad, which came with a yummy peanut flavored dressing. Food was prepared quickly, had a lot of flavor, and was still piping hot when I got back to my office. I will definitely be ordering lunch again from here. read more

I had wanted to try this restaurant as it got rave reviews for its Crispy Duck. I drove all the way from VA Beach, made sure I checked Yelp for hours. On Saturdays, they are open until 2:00 then re-opens at 4pm. I was there at 1:38pm, more than 20 minutes before their advertised time to close, enough time to order takeout. No one was there! Open sign was not on, lights were off like they weren't just getting ready for dinner service. The hours on Yelp are incorrect, didn't specify that they close from 2:00pm to 4pm; it was only on google that they showed the correct hours. Even then, they should not be closed at 1:38pm. Very disappointed... businesses shouldn't wonder why they lose potential customers! read more

Pad Thai Restaurant is the definition of a hidden gem. When I first pulled up, I had no idea where the entrance was--every door looked rundown, and the sign above the restaurant wasn't even for the place. It was this old, unrelated shop sign. The only things that gave it away were a faded red "Pad Thai Restaurant" painted on the wall and the amazing smell of freshly cooked Thai food. Everything here is made to order, and it's carry-out only. The 30-minute wait felt pretty reasonable since they cook everything fresh--and you can definitely taste it. The crispy spicy duck was the highlight, with a sweet and savory sauce and super crispy skin that had the perfect punch of basil flavor. The drunken noodles, Panang curry, and spring rolls were also loaded with flavor. Take out only, sometimes the phones ring busy but just keep trying, someone will answer. Staff are always professional when taking orders and ringing you out. Good price for the amount of food. Make sure to order the fresh gardens rolls they're the best in town, but they only have a certain amount per day and sometimes run out. Partner picked up dinner last night with high hopes based on previous reviews and word of mouth. Pretty disappointed in what we got. The shrimp spring rolls had a strange crunch to them, like they were undercooked. The sauce they came with was vinegary and just didn't go well. I finished half of mine before putting it away. The chicken pad thai was fine. It was nothing to write home about and though it was spicy, lacked any other real flavor. The beef stir fry was inedible. It came served in a pool of water. The beef looked and tasted like it wasn't even beef. The vegetables were over steamed and flavorless. Save your money. read more

I've been driving by this building for months and seriously thought it was a closed business. The building is very unassuming! But then I checked Yelp and saw it was open and had amazing reviews. Everyone else was right! This place is awesome. They're only doing carry out (current as of 8/6/22). My partner and I got beef drunken noodles (hot spicy), one of the beef basil dishes (I forget the exact name but he got it medium spice), wonton soup and the Tom yum soup (medium spice). Their spice levels are mild, medium, hot and Thai hot. I got hot because other Thai places I've eaten at recently haven't been that spicy but this place did not mess around! The hot was very spicy, almost too spicy. Everything was got was DELICIOUS. My favorite was the drunken noodles and tom yum soup (so much flavor). We will definitely be coming back!! read more

I'm rating 4 stars based on the quality and flavor of the food, which was quite good. This place is off of Meadowbridge Rd in Mechanicsville and essentially nowhere most people would know about. Parking is amole though ad a takeout only type of business parking shouldn't be a problem. Due to only being to-go, there's not much of an experience the restaurant can offer. Essentially you have one option: call in and place your order, give em 20 minutes and go pick it up. Zero frills or fuss, which can be nice, though I'll also add convenience is also quite minimal. The best I can say is that I ordered lunch for my work team of 7 people and everyone seems to have enjoyed their meals which ranged from mild to Thai hot, and included vegetarian, chicken, and shrimp choices. I'm not sure when I would ever be in the situation again to enjoy Pad Thai Restaurant but I wouldn't hesitate to order from there again. read more

My co workers told me of this Thai restaurant which I've been wanting to try. Me and my step mom had the afternoon off so I decided to have a ladies date night. Pad Thai is not in a random shopping somewhere but on the side of a county road. The parking lot is small and I almost passed it. Prices are also great and they even have a lunch menu. Pad Thai also offers take out options as well. We started with Yum Talay which was a cold seafood salad that came with shrimp, squid, & scallop in a fish sauce lime sauces. I loved the freshness of the dish and the sauce was delicious. I do wish the salad had more vegetables and less red onion. I also liked that the seafood in the salad wasn't overcook& perfectly tender . The main course we got beef pad thai & goong kra theiam which was shrimp in garlic sauce . The shrimps were HUGE and I loved the vegetable that was served with the dish . The pad Thai was probably the best I've ever had with the sauce not being too sweet but perfect. The ice coffee and Thai tea were also delicious and not too sweet . Overall the food is extremely fresh and the sauce work is just beautiful. Where most places make everything super sweet or give you a sprinkle of chili and call it spicy . This is not the case here ! With prices you can't beat & the flavor on 100% this is it . read more

It is pouring today and I didn't really want to go out in the rain, but I couldn't pass up an invite to this place. I was worried about parking because they are quite popular, but there were several parking spots despite the rain. As soon as you walk in, the smell tickles your nose with all kinds of spices. So welcoming. I was on my phone when I walked in and the gentleman helping us asked for my drink order, but never returned. I realized it was because he was being respectful of the fact that I was on the phone so we had to wave him over. We ordered and we were in and out in less than an hour! Where they do that at? The location is very primitive and off the beaten path, but the ginger broccoli dish #27. I ate it out the container without the rice. I don't eat white rice anymore. They do not offer brown rice as a option. #48 (?) The Red Curry seafood dish did not meat my expectations. I will try it again tomorrow once's the spices settle. What does everyone say about where the best Thai food is? Backed up to a field on a farm road out of the way, in an inconspicuous building wedged between country neighborhoods. Pad Thai is the real deal; the people who run the place are very kind and patient, the interior is modest, clean and cute, the prices are incredibly reasonable for... how incredibly fresh, authentic and delicious the food is. I've been twice now, once for Green Curry, once for Massaman, both times getting their daily-small-batch-rolled Fresh Rolls and it's crazy how many miles above the other Thai in RVA this place is. But be warned, for those without a high spice tolerance; it's generous with the chile and other spices and it's the only Thai I've ever had where Thai Hot truly meant Thai Hot, but the flavor was still so complex and addicting, I powered right through it and still wanted more. In season, they grow their own basil and chiles, which I can't wait to try, but even in the off season, they have some of the freshest, most flavorful Thai Basil I've ever eaten; the curry didn't taste overly sweet and with that aggressive licorice flavor like most. *For the Green Curry, it was nice and thick, a great blend of chiles and coconut flavor with a plentiful serving of fresh, cool vegetables and some of the best chicken I've ever had a Thai restaurant. It's all about letting your chiles sweat and sit and they definitely leave the seeds in in this curry spice blend, and I'm here for it. You can't fake quality; it's obvious they have their own curry spice recipes: I've never tasted a curry with so much explosive flavor (though at Thai Hot, my face swelled, my eyes ran, still amazing, but not for the faint-of-heart.) *For the Massaman Curry, it also had a nice savory thick gravy-like consistency, which is accurate to this particular curry (a nice mix between red and yellow curries,) the potatoes were perfectly cooked and spiced and melted in my mouth, I dipped my Fresh Rolls in the broth (would definitely recommend ordering an extra serving of steamed vegetables to round out this comforting bowl of ginger-y, peanut-y, cinammon-y goodness!) Also, their roasted peanuts have incredible flavor, a beautiful golden color and come in plenty in this particular dish (I'd add those to everything if I could! True toasted whole nuts, none of those pale, pre-diced ones that usually come in curries in other shops.) [Both curries were fantastic and fit their authentic flavor profiles flawlessly. Can't wait to go back and try more!] The chicken is tender and flavorful, the vegetables taste very fresh and crisp, and the curries are the perfect blend of spice, sweet and savory, nice and thick (they need no extra supplements, like hot sauces, but I would recommend ordering extra vegetables to balance out all of the rice, because you will be licking the bowl,) and, also their Fresh Rolls are legitimately the best I've ever had. The shrimp are cool, crisp and perfectly cooked, and their peanut sauce is nice and thick with a fantastic sweet soy flavor, paired with the fresh nuttiness, above any other rendition of the sauce I've had, with a nice fish sauce zing that has an almost sweet vinegar kick (most peanut sauces I've had have always been sort of watery and bland.) This place is exceptional, and completely worth a trip from the opposite end of the city. If you have a Thai food craving, make the effort; now, I've only had the curries and the rolls, so I can't speak for the rest of their dishes, but it tastes genuinely homemade, it's cheaper than some of the other Thai spots in town, and it travels very well; stayed piping hot from Meadowbridge all the way back to the Near West End (microwaving kills a lot of the flavor, so it's a nice bonus to not have to reheat.) TLDR; The curry is thick, great portion sizes and depth-ily flavorful (hits on the trinity of Thai flavor profile: spice, sweetness and savoriness,) the shop is quiet and quaint and clean, the price points are amazing for the quality and quantity and it's just the best. (Eating food like this reminds me why I love Thai food so much. It's no bland, broken broth with three pieces of chicken and one bamboo strip, here.) read more

A little late to the game reviewing this diamond in the rough. Not many people know about this spot but boy once you have it you will not go back to any other Thai restaurant. It is take out only now because of covid. They have a fresh garden that they use for their dishes on the menu. The food comes out extremely hot and well prepared. The staff are super nice. The house peanut sauce was a superb concoction that wasn't crazy spicy or oily peanut butter. The Pad Kra Prao (chili, garlic, pepper, onion, basil, and chicken) was incredible! I've only been here once, and it's really unfortunate that I don't live in Richmond and rarely find myself in the area, because I may never make it to Pad Thai again. I stopped in right before they closed after their lunch hours, and I'm soooooo glad I wasn't 10 minutes later. At first, I wasn't sure what to think. I didn't even see the entrance when pulling into the lot. It just looked like an old, vacant building with a simple sign on it. My apprehension quickly disappeared as I walked towards the door, and saw all of the fresh herbs and peppers growing. It was a harvest that I'm actually quite envious of, as we're always running out of Thai basil, etc. at home. Once you walk in, you're greeted by a relaxed atmosphere and nice staff. It's has a lot nice, bright vibe that you wouldn't expect when looking from the outside. Anyway, by the time I got there, the lunch crowd was gone, and there was only one other table sat. I was there by myself, and the staff was really nice. I could tell everyone was eager to get ready for dinner, but they didn't make me feel rushed, which was awesome. The lunch menu isn't too large, and I figured the best thing to order at a place called "Pad Thai Restaurant" was the pad Thai, so that's what I went with. You really can't beat the lunch deal. You also get a side with your meal, so I got the fried wontons. The wontons were okay, but nothing spectacular. The pad Thai on the other hand? AWESOME! It was as good as some of my favorite Thai spots that I frequent in Pittsburgh (yes, a city with a reputations drenched in ethnically-diverse cuisine, I know. Ha). It was really good. Sweet. Sour. Savory. Perfect. The added bonus? The price. It's hard to go out and eat a lunch for the cost. I'm seriously bummed that I can't go back and try more of the menu, but I'll definitely be there again IF I'm in the Richmond area again. This place is a bit of a drive and there is not much else besides the raceway in the area-- but it will totally be worth the trip! As you pull up to the restaurant, you will notice all the large Thai pepper bushes and vine of bitter melon overgrowing all over the front. I have even seen the workers come out to pluck some extra peppers for a dish. So you know that the food is definitely fresh. This place literally feels like someone's home and the cozy interior of the restaurant compliment this as well. As you walk in, the walls are decorated with posters of Thailand and they even play Thai music sometimes. The owner is so friendly here and always greets you with a big smile. Aside from the owner, the servers can be a hit or a miss. Some of them take forever and disappear in the middle of the meal. The food can take a while to come out during busy times as well. Their drunken noodles are really tasty and pack a lot of flavor-- I like to squeeze lime juice over the noodles to brighten up the dish. I also really like their curries, in particular the red curry which is very creamy and spicy. If you want to try something different, try the red curry with duck! It is a delicious combination. Their Pad Thai is way too sweet for me and I think the flavors could be better balanced-- it is the only dish that I don't like there. Very Very good Thai food. Really is a gem in the middle of nowhere it seems. Have tried masuman curry, pineapple dish, drunken noodles, tofu dishes, crispy duck and some other dishes. None of the food is a miss and most is great. Also is cool that it seems that a lot of the ingredients are grown right in front of the restaurant. The thing that kind of brings it down for me is service. One of the waitresses is very enthusiastic but the one busker is so apathetic. They also get busy sometimes with little staff that you don't get that much needed water refill for a while. Would that stop me from going? Looks like a hole in the wall from the road, but they have some nice plants to decorate the parking lot, and the inside is cozy. Best prices for Thai I've found in the area, and the quality of the food rivals my favorite spot in DC. Only gotten take out so far, but from the looks of it, it's a popular place to dine in.
