some months ago, I use this business to install a new engine in my Chrysler 300. They did the installation but left my exhaust hanging my firewalls detached, and I had to take it back and they charged me more money to tune the engine up. I felt that they did ok job at that time I know that they left my engine shroud off, and they have my power steering pump, rubbing up against my pulling which another mechanic said it's a easy mistake to make, but they were unwilling to fix their mistake before I realize this, I thought they did a decent job, went back to have a transmission installed as I drove the car pulley ran and rubbed a hole in my power steering pump holes for which they were unwilling to meet me halfway. I called them and Ahmed was clear and to the point. He was able to get my truck into the shop the day I brought it to him, and out the next day repaired, with no issues whatsoever. I had a battery and alternator replaced in my 1988 Honda. They put the old belt back on. They should of put a new one on. I noticed the battery light. Then the belt broke. I called the shop to see if they warranty work. They said no. When an alternator is replaced the belt should be replaced. This belt broke on 94 during a storm so I lost all power. Absolutely terrifying. I could tell by the way I was treated when I picked the car up that something would be wrong. A 18.00 belt. I paid 600 for battery and alternator The belt should have been replaced when alternator was replaced.Go somewhere else especially if you are a woman. Total rip off. read more

This is the most underrated shop in town. Family owned and nothing corporate about this place. My Volvo needed its timing belt, cam seal and crank pulley seal along with other major stuff that needed to be changed. I was quoted 3 times more then what packard auto quoted me from other 5star shops on yelp. They were fast, elegant, told me what I needed and what I did not and were not pushy . I was passing through A2 from Chicago when I got the dreaded "check engine light". While most local mechanics were closed on a Saturday (except for the big name franchises), I called Packard and they told me they were swamped, but they'd help. After keeping the car for about 30 mins doing a very thorough inspection, they determined that it was nothing urgent to fix before my return trip back to Chicago. I don't know why I am surprised. My wife brought one of our cars here to investigate a rattle. In spite of not finding the actual cause of the rattle, a reinforcing strip on the underbody cover that head popped its rivets, they gave us a 1400 dollar list of work that our car needed. Including claiming the brake linings were at 20% (photo evidence for closer to 70% and only 2 years old.) and that the brakes were impossibly rusted and causing the rattle. They also claimed I needed new shocks, struts and sway bar links. The sway bar links where are not visible without removing underbody covers and there was plenty of evidence that the underbody covers had not been removed. This seems a classic example of the shotgun approach to fixing a rattle. Also, pretty clear that the person who assessed our car is either incompetent or criminally shady. read more

Had my car towed after it broke down. Told me that it was a timing belt that was ruined, and would cost over $1000 to fix, despite the fact that my timing belt was not even two months old. They also tore apart a number of items on the interior of the car, and left it that way when we told them we would tow the car somewhere else for a second opinion. Moldings on the car were broken off, and someone had CLEARLY hit my car while it was at the facility. Paid $200 to have my car towed, and the only issue with the car was that it needed a sensor, as the wiring had corroded, and was not catching the start. The fix cost $200 and is running fine now. The most insulting part of this is that Packard is also a salvage yard, and said they would give me $150 for my car. Bottom line, if you want your car fixed? Don't take it here for any reason. read more

My car broke down in my driveway, so I called Packard Auto based on the good reviews I read here (and elsewhere) and the fact that they offered free towing with an auto repair. They came and picked me up within an hour, and dragged my sorry little Focus down to their shop; it was pretty busy, a good sign for a mechanic, I'd say. I arrived there in the early afternoon, and by the end of the day, they had taken a look at and diagnosed my problem; my rear brakes had seized, so I needed new shoes and the associated miscellaneous (reasonable and inexpensive) hardware that accompanies them. They could've insisted that I get new drums, too, but they said they'd probably be able to save them without a problem, saving me money. They did save them, and by the next afternoon (thankfully they're open on Saturdays!) my little car and I were reunited. They brought my old components out in a box for me to look at, too - I'm not well-versed enough in car parts to really assess what condition they were in (they looked like they had seen better days, though), but I appreciate the willingness to show me that the repair work they did was justified. Don't waste your time or money. Spent close to $500 for front brakes on for my son's ( a U of M student) car. Less than 10 miles later the back brakes mysteriously quit working. They were fine when we brought the vehicle in. Of course, for another $500 they would fix those too. I don't think so, we rented a car hauler and fixed them at home. I started visiting Packard Auto Repair after I was disappointed with the oil change service at my Honda Dealership in A2. This business and their way of treating customers (writing as a female customer) is Exceptional. I went to Belle Tire when I was out of town about a noise in my Civic and was told it was a ~$600 repair and safety risk that I needed to repair ASAP. I came back to PAR for a second opinion and the mechanic literally took me into the garage to show me the problem and assured me that although it's noisy, it is not a safety risk. He also explained that since the repair is pending on removal of parts to see other areas, the full extent of what needs to be fixed and cost won't be completely clear until they start. They fixed my car in a timely matter. When I took my car in I had no idea what was wrong. They called me let me know my battery was not keeping a charge. They explained they would replace it, drive it to make sure it drive smooth, wait a couple hours turn it back on sure everything was still working. They called to let me know when driving they left something so they check my ball joints and they needed to be replaced. I was told by someone else that my ball joints probably needed to be replaced so it wasn't like they were trying to add expensive things to my bill. They did not add anything I didn't need to my bill in fact once they started working one of the brakes was worn and they didn't want to but it back on. So this is actually my first review, but after the experience I had with these guys, I couldn't stay quiet (also - they have many more reviews through google so check those out as well). While the outside of this shop doesn't make it look like the fanciest auto shop, let me tell you that their service was fantastic. I was having to move from Ann Arbor to Atlanta and needing to drive my jeep packed full with all my stuff. The day before the long drive, my car stopped working and was barely drive-able. I took it to Packard Auto Repair at 2pm, they got me in immediately and were able to diagnose the issue. Initially they said they would be done right at 4 when the shop closed, but they found another problem and stayed for an hour after their closing time to make sure they did a good job. All while they were doing this, I was able to run errands and get everything else for the move taken care of. One of the best things about these guys were a) they let me try and shop around online for a cheaper part at nearby auto places (theirs was the cheapest anyway) and b) they didn't try to sell me on a bunch of stuff I didn't need, which seems to be the staple of all auto shops. Highly recommended by me, but as always, do your own diligence before spending a ton of money at any repair shop. read more

I went in to get my AC Charged for the summer and take advantage of the special they had advertised on Yelp. I went in, signed some forms and authorized the work. 3 minutes later, the mechanic came back in the door and said "Your AC works !!" and I said "No it doesn't, it only blows hot air!". He said "Did you press the AC button?". Me: :-x I ran outside, and sure enough I had only turned the temperature knob to "cool" and never pushed AC. I really value their honesty because they could have "pretended" to fix my car and charged me the money. They chose to let me know that nothing was wrong, and I drove off the lot, without charge for labor or anything. They get an A+ for honesty!! read more

After shopping at Costco in Ann Arbor my car didn't start so I went into Costco to find out if they knew of a towing company, they suggested Packard Auto Repair because it was pretty close. They were prompt in finding me and towed my car to their repair shop and said it was the alternator. The worst part of this is it was a Saturday afternoon around 1:00pm, I wasn't sure how long they were open and if they would be able to replace it that afternoon. Took my car in with transmission problems. they towed my car in for free, and gave me several options to get my car back on the road. The techs were knowledgeable, so was the rep working the counter. Labor prices were reasonable, and the price of parts was about 1/2 of what a dealership would charge.
