My situation involved my dog being seized after running at large and biting someone. I will fully admit that my dog was aggressive toward people he didn't know because of trauma from his previous home. As heartbreaking as it was, my family eventually made the difficult decision to euthanize him. What made this situation unbearable was the way the shelter handled it. After multiple phone calls with staff and supervisor Dani, we were clearly told that we could come Saturday to sign the papers, euthanize him, and pick him up afterward. Because he was deeply loved, we visited him several times beforehand. The day before our scheduled date, we came to see him again, discuss giving him a last meal, and sign any paperwork they needed. Instead, we were informed they had already euthanized him without notifying us -- after specifically telling us Saturday was the agreed date. Their excuse was "miscommunication." One explanation was that because my sister visited him Thursday, they assumed it was okay to proceed. Another excuse was that a supervisor approved it because he was considered "a danger." Yet when we directly asked if he was a danger to staff, we were told no, and that they "deal with stuff like this all the time." Even while visiting him, I personally watched staff interact with him physically, and he responded calmly and familiarly with them. The entire situation was handled with a complete lack of professionalism, compassion, and communication. It honestly feels like they knew they could get away with handling things this way because of the circumstances surrounding my dog. No matter the situation, owners deserve honesty, communication, and the chance to properly say goodbye to an animal they loved.

Special care dogs have even ANOTHER smaller area that in inside of the LARGE area. They are separated into their own play ground. The kennel area has plenty of room, and the dogs are secure and safe. My dog Luke is 3 1/2 and he's been going to Claire at Dogs Best Friend since he was a small puppy. She's the ONLY Boarder I use.

At that point, I had pretty reliably taught her to sit, stay, and come. What I really needed was on & off leash heel, lie down, and for her to do all of the aforementioned with distractions. I've had my dog since she was 7 weeks old, she is pure-bred pedigreed Labrador Retriever, sweet tempered and quite bright. No behavioral issues! When I came to pick her up after two weeks, she had learned NO additional skills! She would not heel or lie down, and would not come to me when distracted. I return her to the trainer, and expressed my disappointment, that my $3000 was essentially spent on dog sitting. She took my dog back for an another full week at no additional charge. Afterwards she told me that she received NOTHING from her boss for doing this (the franchise owner) and took my dog back simply because she did not want me to be dissatisfied. She made some progress in that final week, but we still have a loooong way to go. I do not fault the trainer! She did her best and took my dog on for an additional week for free. The company is a franchise. She shared with me that the owner is in Greenville, he is not even a dog trainer (she described him as a businessman), and she has never met him. She also shared that she JUST QUIT! Her issue was that 2 weeks is not enough time to train a dog to do all of this things that they advertise. Customers were regularly upset when their expectations weren't met. It takes at least 4-5 weeks to accomplish good on-leash results, let alone off leash. I feel like "Off-Leash" over promised knowing that they would likely underperform. The franchisee relies on internet marketing, and a slick phone call/email/text sales pitch. Perhaps the other training service are good, because the trainer that I met seemed excellent - but with the 2 week board and train, the trainers are set up to fail. I wouldn't call it a "scam" but from my experience, and that of others I have talked with since then, you are VERY unlikely to be satisfied. There are other operations right here in Lexington that will do board and train for 4-5 weeks, charge about the same, and not make any "off leash promises". That seems much more realistic and honest. Buyer beware!!!

Took our mutt in and 2 x-rays, 1 blood test, 5 take home pain pills later (although she did not exhibit pain behavior) the bill was $728.00. No resolution or assessment of the seizure or possible stroke issue our dog had over the weekend. Wanted us to come back for ultrasound of abdomen. Thought there was a "mass" that showed up on x-ray. She's 12-13 years old so if there is some "mass" present she most likely wouldn't survive any surgery so what's the point? We were just trying to ascertain why she went into a trance like state for several minutes Saturday evening and then was totally lethargic for the next 10 hours. By Sunday morning she was as normal as ever and ate, drank, did her business and was her usual self. Should have just kept her home and saved the $$$$.
