Movers worked hard but they seemed they just wanted to get the job done and get their check. You can find many other better options. Movers" is, by far, the most arrogant, asinine, childishly silly, and mathematically challenged moving company I've ever encountered ... in my life. They seriously imagine we're supposed to submit to them a detailed list of the items being moved and apparently they think they can "calculate" what they want to use (i.e., what they want to charge you), not what you actually need. If you've moved before and added/subtracted certain types of items (e.g., appliances, larger or smaller sofa, gaming computer), then you pretty much know how much more/less truck space you'll need as compared to the last move. Worse, their expectation is that you'll be perfectly okay with them separating all your possessions ... that you'll NEED in your new home ... and storing them behind their fence somewhere and you'll just sit in your empty house without the ability to start organizing, cooking, cleaning, etc. It's utterly insane that anyone thinks that's a reasonable methodology. Every other moving company I called bases the move off the truck(s) that will be needed, yet this one somehow escaped from la-la land and bases the move off an "item count", lol. The person on the phone gave a rather confident estimate of 1 week and that they do that route often. It took double that time, which was still within the guaranteed time frame but given my conversation on the phone, I had made other plans contingent on a 1 week delivery estimate. Also, once I was booked with them, it was not easy to get a response via email or phone after leaving a voice message with the original person I spoke on the phone with to make changes or have questions answered. The ugly: They broke my bookshelf in transit and lost the screws to my TV stand. We put the TV stand and screws into a separate box. Upon arrival, the mover walked in with just the TV stand in hand, and no box (and no screws). I am still waiting for the claim to be processed. Overall, friendly over phone and email. Transparent pricing and breakdown. The actual moving was meh. They definitely talk the talk, but they didn't really walk the walk with me.

I ended up hiring Move It On Up because they gave me a competitive bid and frankly just seemed more confident in their ability to do the job. We needed to split the move over two days because we wanted to leave our house staged to sell. The first move, they arrived with 4 people and a truck and got to work packing everything. The girls packed and Keith and Luis moved everything to the truck. They literally ran everywhere they went from 8am-5:30pm. The move went perfect and they finished in the exact time they had estimated in the initial walk through. Not a thing broke in the move. For the second move, it was a week later and it was all of the remaining furniture. Keith, Luis and one other guy showed up with a truck at 8am. They moved everything out again in the exact amount of time they had estimated. They were running the whole time like on day one! When it was all said and done, I owed him the exact amount that he had quoted me for the whole move. Everything made it safely to the old house and we were extremely happy with the service provided. It had been 10 years since my last move and while I loved my previous mover (Breda), they couldn't help me out with long-distance move. I will be the first to admit that I am high-maintenance when it comes to my stuff. I'm not some college kid with a studio full of IKEA. I am a grown-up, with a B&B Italia sofa and a burgeoning art collection. I am more than willing to pay for the careful transport of my belongings. The question was, who do I trust? After doing the research on the "pod" companies (Red Box, Smart Box, PODS, etc.) it was clear that for my needs, PODS was the way to go (stay tuned for a review on them once my interstate move is completed). Because you can't park a PODS unit on a major city street, you need a 3rd party mover to load and then reload your stuff. PODS has an exclusive relationship with EMS Movers. Now, I liked what I read about EMS on Yelp...but I didn't like the fact that they estimate your move over the phone; they don't come out in person. Everything I read about how to have a successful move said to run, not walk from a company that won't look at your stuff in person. Hence, my dilemma... Enter Jason at EMS Movers. This guy is 5 stars all the way...patient, reassuring, knowledgeable and did I say patient? Seriously, I've worked in customer service and Jason is an MVP! EMS is lucky to have him. I'll spare you the drama of my move. Suffice it to say, Chris and his crew did a terrific job packing and moving my belongings. They were even able to fit it all in to one container (as opposed to the 2 I expected to need)...that's another benefit to having professionals pack your stuff. Jason, you rock my man! I was assigned Jimmy, Anderson, and Jose, and from the beginning, they were patient, professional, and understanding. When we arrived at my storage facility, we were met with something completely unexpected, my belongings had been severely damaged due to an infestation at the storage facility. I was unaware of the situation and was completely shocked to discover that rats had destroyed many of my personal belongings. The movers explained that because of the extent of the damage and infestation, they could not safely pack everything. Despite the circumstances, the team showed incredible compassion and understanding. Knowing I was already overwhelmed especially being pregnant and dealing with such a stressful situation they still did everything they could to help salvage and move what was possible. Unfortunately, some items had to be left behind because the damage was simply too severe.
