Our neighbor along with us needed the floors in our building replaced. A man from Pacificontract was sent out (wish I had gotten his name). He started with our neighbors floor which literally took all day. By the time he got to us it was almost 5:30 pm but he came to work. I had seen him running back and forth all day and could not ask him to tackle our project that late. I told him he could come back which at first he did not want to do. Not because he did not want to come back, but because we were expecting our floor to also be done so he was going to do it no matter how late it was. I had him come back anyway and he was wonderful. I had a good experience with these nice people. They helped to pick out the right carpet and pad, remembered my name on followup visits, promptly went out and measured the property and provided an estimate that was competitive with other flooring companies. The thing that sold me was that they were able to order the material and install the carpet in just 7 days! All the other quotes I got told me it would take a month to install. And sure enough, 7 days later the carpet was installed beautifully without defect of any kind. No complaints. Very disappointed. This was a job contracted through our rental agency who had been using this company (PacifiContract Carpet & Hardwood) for other of their rental homes. We found a well established water leak coming from the kitchen refrigerator that must have been going on for many months since it had already discolored the existing hardwood flooring. Once we pulled out the fridge, most of the rotten flooring came up as the fridge came out revealing obvious black mold. Our property management was notified and they jumped on making the issue right. Well, as the flooring dried, the flooring began to warp and separate itself from the subfloor. That tells me the water damage is pretty extensive, right? Fast forward to install day...we come home after install crew is finishing up. The install looks great, but our front door drags, (even without the weather stripping being reinstalled at the base of door), the doors to the den are off the wall due to them not fitting and baseboards/wall trim being cut and modified. The install crew was asked what the issue was and they said "there were too many nails to get the old floor up, so their boss said to just lay the new floor on top of the old one"...WHAT?!?! How is that acceptable? For one, the old floor is rotting off the subfloor so there is nothing solid to attach the new floor to and more importantly, half the kitchen and living room have black mold underneath. Property management company was appalled as well as the property owner when they came to proof the job. Today, Healdsburg Flooring came by and removed all flooring revealing more damage then expected. As a tenant, I believe in also being an advocate for the property owner. I'm not trying to bash these guys as I'm sure they can handle simple jobs well, but if you can't get the old floor up and you cut corners by not doing the job right the first time, what does that say about other jobs done in the past or future? read more
