Checked out this big yet empty older mall in Joliet. It has a pretty good location close to the…read moreinterstate and still gets quite a bit of business but not as much as in the past. Louis Joliet Mall is the biggest place to shop in this big suburb. Has a lot of places to go inside even with many being closed. The quality of the stuff isn't is good as it once was and there's not much good other than seeing a movie. Better malls are certainly around but this one has a lot of interesting history about it. It's been around here since 1978 with it being one of two malls that had opened recently. The other was Jefferson Square Mall, which opened a few years earlier and closed in 2002 and was demolished pretty soon after that. Has gone through a few anchors. There's a Cinemark movie theater, JCPenney's, and Macy's. Basically the theater opened in 2009, and has since brought in the most business. There also used to be a Bergner's and Sears. A Sears subsidiary actually financed the mall's construction. There's been many instances of vacancies. The Carson's closed in 2018, but reopened later. Panera Bread, T.G.I. Friday's, and Tilted Kilt have closed. The Sears closed in 2019 and has not been replaced. Got to say it's been around for awhiles. It's not like it once was but it's still hanging on. There's still lots open but there's also tons of vacancies.

When I do find myself here, I think parking is always difficult. There's a lack of convenient spaces, and for some reason the alignment causes people not to fully see you when they're backing out. Or perhaps they just don't give a f*ck because those rich Burr Ridge ladies can afford more insurance on their fancy Jaguars than I can on my simple Chevy. But I digress. It was a…read moreSaturday morning and tons of the businesses around them were open so I had to keep driving past it to find parking in the lot. When I got in, there was a lot more space than I thought. That was nice because I only worry when I go to places for club meetups that I have squeeze into tight spaces. Walking in for a bunch of things to like shop around such as blind boxes and jewelry. There was Smiski and Sonny Angels so I got a box of each. I was so excited because lots of places either have fakes or it is sold out. I got two kinds of boba drinks-a Okinawa milk tea and a passionfruit and Yuzu mix. Both very tasty! If I'm in the area, I'll definitely come back and there's usually a meet up there which is really nice because they offer a lot of things to buy so I can support their business more.

This is a small strip mall that basically has seen a change in stores opening and closing because…read morethe last time I came here there was an Office Depot and it's been replaced by a produce and grocery store. There's also been other things like a lot of fast food places situated in and around the mall area. It's not all that because this place is situated in a high traffic area, but it seems like the stores can't garner enough business to stay in the mall and actually be functional. I do also notice they don't have a high concentration of loitering and excessive people hanging out. There is however a movie theater which is convenient to the train which is about a block and a half down the street which is the Cermak Pink line station. It is in a good area because people who live in the area can walk over and do their shopping or some who live about 10-20 minutes away are just a quick bus ride over. It's clean and well maintained even though the empty places in the mall need to be filled to bring in more business.
