My family's worst birthday party to date was in August 2012 at the Pacific Science Center for my son's sixth birthday. (It was bad enough that eight months later, it stands out as the most important thing I should use Yelp to warn people against, now that I've signed up.)
Below is the feedback I drew from when responding to their satisfaction survey, to which they responded that they would consider my comments in their future planning. No apology, no credits, nothing. I let our family's membership expire and no longer recommend PSC to anyone.

I am writing to give you feedback on the birthday party we recently hosted at the Pacific Science Center, which did not meet my expectations. Upon arrival, the parking garage at the PSC was full, but there was no sign saying so, so we were all just driving down and then stuck at the bottom for 20 minutes while someone was waiting to get a spot. Our family had brought two vehicles. Once my husband finally found a spot, he took over mine, and my son and I ran to make it to set up the party on time. You should consider letting the birthday boy park in the staff-only lot right near the discovery lab door. We had a lot of snacks and party favors and kids to haul a long distance.
Then, upon entering, it took about 10 minutes to find someone to show us where to go. We walked around the halls, saying "Hello?" with no answer.
The woman assigned to manage the party (only one woman) was nice, but she was not at all a take-charge kind of person. It is advertised as "We provide everything; you just come and have fun! Parents can relax and enjoy the party - leave the entertaining to us!" My husband and I felt it necessary to manage the party and assist the children a lot more than we were expecting. The single staff person would start an activity (such as coloring) and disappear into the side room for 15-20 minutes, while we managed the kids. She was in the room for only a very small fraction of her "super science show."
Speaking of the "super science show," based on the advertisement we saw, my son was really looking forward to assembling a dinosaur skeleton.... more like a lame craft project, followed by digging in cat litter boxes for toy dinosaurs that the kids were not allowed to keep... no assembly required. The plastic eggs were super cheap, and wouldn't stay closed.... frustrating for kids. The crayons were super cheap and impossible to peel, which made the rubbings frustrating.
I just felt like PSC could have coughed up a second staff person and higher-end projects. I felt like we basically paid for the space and the cake. Oh, and the liquid nitrogen ice cream, which was very cool and fun.
Lastly, we confirmed that we needed to be out of the room by 5 p.m., but we were not aware that we had to be out of the birthday party lab building completely by 5 p.m. The staff girl didn't say anything about that at all, the news was just sprung on the grandparents at 4:50 when they were cleaning up. (The rest of us were in the museum.) Instead of moving everything to the lobby, our planned meeting spot, my husband and his parents had to scramble to make a new plan, leaving me alone with six kids in the museum.
Based on PSC's awesome science demonstrations inside the museum, I was expecting more. read more
