The state is trying to rip people off now by selling their used or old stuff for way more than what it goes for brand new. The pricing is getting worse and I hope the state recognizes that this surplus facility is ripping off customers by unfairly overpricing merchandise

While the showroom floor area was kind of small; they do pack a lot in a small space. Also, since there is a lot of large furniture it takes up a lot of the floor. Just in case you didn't know, the surplus store appears to be all the surplus used Washington State equipment and furniture. So instead of taking a total loss on used items, you can just go buy a table or set of file cabinets or computers that may have been used somewhere in the state offices. I actually found the large tables and computer desks and small stationary very inexpensive. I thought it was priced in line with the thrift stores around the area. I found two large bookcases for $10 each and a large dining room table for $15. They had large binders for $1 and file cabinets for $5 per drawer. They have refrigerators and TVs and computers and printers. There are other items that are a little bit more pricey and maybe not in line with what I was thinking for used materials, but too each their own. They sell old state cars and large machinery as well, just in case you're looking. If you're looking for some reasonably priced older furniture or basic stuff to fill up a house or apartment until you get your "real" furniture, this place is worth a visit. Everything seems pretty sturdy so it might actually last you a long while.

They had nice antique furniture, clocks from the 1880s, Madame Alexander dolls in the box, a large collection of Waterford glassware, unused quilts from the 1930s, lamps and so much more. They filled up a truck and came back the next day for the rest. They did not auction off everything at once, and about 95 percent have not been accounted for. They put some things supposedly on consignment. Their dining room furniture was sold piece by piece at different times. The china cabinet went for$30.00, the table and six chairs went for $40.00. They have no idea what happened to the buffet. A nice sideboard that they paid $3000.00 went for $40.00. They supposedly put some of their things on consignment. Where, they have no idea. A dozen antique quilts went for $60.00, along with carpets, cedar chests, desks, a new sewing machine still in the box and etc. Since last Winter, they have received checks adding up to no more than $300.00. Last month, they received a check for $3.75 for some unnamed item sold on consignment. It seems to us that their things have been stolen! Being a family business, they seemed very personable but we feel that their business practices are dishonest and have decided to report them to the Attorney Generals Office.

My husband and I drove 45 minutes to pick it up and about 10 minutes away I noticed it was marked as sold. I reached back out to make sure we hadn't driven all that way for nothing. The message wasn't responded to UNTIL WE WALKED INTO THE BUILDING. Had I known that it was an auction house that I was going to, I would have known to ask about payment but that information was nowhere in the listing nor the messages. The woman at the desk said it was sold and that she had no idea who had sent what messages. That's false because my name is attached to my fb message...which is also on my ID. I will never get that hour and a half back and am extremely disappointed with the way this interaction went and how delayed the response time was. Will never inquire about anything from this place again.

Unfortunately…read morethey choose to use KP Gunworks for firearm transfers and this is the comment I left on KP Gunworks Page: 12/16/25 I win two firearms on auction from Sound Auction. Sound Auction uses KP Gunworks for firearm (FFL) transfers. on 12/20/25 I present to KP Gunworks to complete the transfer at 0930. The business phone number states they are open at 10:00 on Saturday. On the door it is posted 9-5 and on Google it states 11-3 on Saturday. I sat in my car for over two hours 0930-1140 passing all three posted opening times and no-one ever showed. Several people showed as well and one young man who stated "He just shows up when he wants to". When he wants to? I have over four thousand dollars invested in an FFL transfer company that Sound Auction chooses to use that might show up when he wants to? At 11:40 I returned home to Lynnwood an over 120 mile round trip for absolutely nothing. Reading the Yelp comments over a two year span, I cannot believe KP Gunworks could be associated with any reputable business or that Sound Auction would have more respect for their customers and choose another FFL that at the minimum honors their posted opening time(s). I called my credit card company and cancelled the purchase and noted it as potential fraud. If a company never opens, and you cannot complete transfer paperwork, and eventually take possession, that is theft at a minimum and I certainly am not paying for that.

I never had a lot of money, but that didn't hold me back, I bought carefully. I found a few auction companies on Yelp and contacted them. One stood out from the beginning, Salem Auction House. I trusted Jake from the first telephone call, I don't know why, but he has the kind of enthusiasm that I have for unusual items and furniture. His good character was apparent from our first meeting. He drove up from Salem, packed my items in the truck and charged a nominal fee for that service. We were moving, and we don't drive, so that was a huge load off of my mind. Everything was handled by Jake, he scheduled the auction, advertised it and put the entire process online to witness. I'll admit, I didn't pay close attention, but to put it mildly, it was (for me) an unexpectedly successful auction, far in excess of my expectations. Looking at the prices being paid was gratifying. I love Oregon, but people are very tight with money, if you try to sell things yourself it is both difficult and depressing. Somehow Jake and Salem Auction House have the right clientele. They appreciated my items, bought them because they liked my taste, and bought so enthusiastically that I know that they will be loved as much as I always have. That was important to me. Jake was as excited as I was, the itemized list accompanied a check within a week or so. I can highly and wholeheartedly recommend Salem Auction House!
