Everything was mid. I got a lychee luau drink which was terrible, that I didn't even end up drinking. It had way too much of the sweet and sour or whatever mixer they use. No lychee flavor at all. A squeeze of citrus and generous dollops of orange tobiko brighten every bite of this dish. At $35 this dish is worth it, but for $27 it is two generous healthy meals of the freshest sashimi! I never forget to weigh in on iced tea. I loved the lemongrass tea they used to serve slightly more than the tropical tea, but it is still great and ordering it kept me from ordering a second guavarita. I was pleasantly surprised with the food and service since Pacific Catch is a chain with 15 restaurants on the west coast. I didn't expect a single proprietorship vibe. I had fish and chips with a side of asparagus, my wife and her sister had miso cod, her husband had the steak and rib combo and my wife's mother had a salmon sandwich and we shared a tempura shrimp roll. My fish and chips were very good, nice batter, fish was fresh, thin French fries were slightly crispy with a light dusting of salt, tartar sauce had a little bit of a bite and the grilled asparagus was perfect, nice seasoning and grilled perfectly firm, not al dente or soft. My wife and her sister thought the Miso Cod was very fresh, tender and good flavor, the Furikake rice had good seasoning and fresh, and the sesame string beans cooked perfectly too as well as good seasoning. My brother-in-law liked his steak and ribs which he always gets when he goes to Pacific Catch. He likes the flavor and says both are cooked so they are not dry. He likes that it comes with an over easy egg and kimchi fried rice. My mother-in-law loved her salmon sandwich, nothing fancy, grilled just right so it was not dry with a soft bun. She liked the freshness and ingredients of the side salad. The big surprise was the sushi since this is a seafood restaurant and not a Japanese restaurant. The sushi was shared and beat the initial low expectations, it was good. The restaurant gave my mother-in-law a free Dulce de Leche and Spring Roll with cream cheese dessert. I stopped by Pacific Catch in San Mateo today just before noon for an early lunch. Some locals had the same idea and were seated in the main dining area. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The grog regulars had not arrived yet, so I opted for a quieter table near the bar. My waiter, Everardo, was friendly and very professional. I kinda put him on the spot by asking him to choose either the fish 'n chips or the grilled salmon sandwich for my midday repast. He recommended the fish 'n chips platter. The platter arrived and looked scrumptious. I tasted the slaw. It lacked the piquant flavor I had anticipated. It was not bland but it could have been made a little more savory. The fries... or "chips" as the Brits call them... were very good. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. That is also the way I would describe Alaskan cod pieces. I squeezed a little lemon on all three pieces before trying a bite with some of the jalapeno tartar sauce. Ah, there's the zesty flavor I was waiting to enjoy. The cod was mild and moist inside. I tried a bite or two sans tartar, but like the slaw, the cod needed a little palate enhancer. I splashed on some malt vinegar and voilà! The tangy malt vinegar really brought out the rich flavor of the Alaskan cod. I can recommend Pacific Catch for lunch. I am a frequent customer of this Pacific Catch, located in front of San Mateo's Cinemark (they have a movie special deal). They have a great rewards program that often gives incentives to dine in, such as various discounts, free birthday bowls, and point redemption - they even let you order it online very easily as takeout. They have a pretty good happy hour on weekdays from 3-6pm, and a discounted weekday lunch special (recent addition). I'm typically happy to patronize San Francisco-born eateries, especially if they take pride in ethical sourcing and quality ingredients, despite how much pricier that makes the food... oh, and the food is definitely pricey ($16 California roll ftw). Think of them as an upscale seafood fusion (mixture of American, Asian, Hawaiian, some Mexican) chain that's a step under fancy. Across all their restaurants, they have a high standard of cleanliness, modern beachy or relaxed interior design, and a nice patio section (San Mateo's patio only came into existence after COVID). Because they make it so easy to redeem rewards and promotions for takeout, I've only dined in twice for happy hour. I think the quality between dine-in and takeout is almost the same, though it looks much better in person as it's plated very well. It's usually quite relaxed inside, so I'd recommend coming here for happy hours, groups, dates, or casual dining. If you love seafood, I'd direct you to Half Moon Bay instead. It's not that the seafood is bad - it's just that I prefer various specific dishes elsewhere (fish plates, fish and chips, sushi, lobster rolls, poke)... so I would say that what Pacific Catch coins is providing ALL of these dishes on the same menu, putting a fusion spin and pretty touches on them, and hosting it all in an upscale, American-friendly environment. And by American, I mean the flavors are kind of sweeter with more soy and ginger thrown in instead of our usual fermented suspects, yaknow? I think the pupu platter is solid (the items change every now and then), enjoy the fresh catch entrees if I want to splurge, and typically get the poke bowls, for which they frequently have deals. The tacos are huge and promoted often as well - I get full after two. I'm not a fan of their hard tortilla chips, their sushi with overly sweet and hard vinegar rice, their side salad with some very sweet and salty thick dressing, and their winter special clams miso udon which was definitely a scam. I will continue to come here because of the rewards program, though I definitely live near a more casual seafood chain that's much, much cheaper and tastier... Is one my favorite place from now on, I realy like their earning point system that offer you some great rewards as free dishes for permanent customers. The service is great the food is delicious they don't serve coffee for now hopefully soon they can make it work . Overall is a nice place that obviously I recommend and wait to comeback to them anytime soon! Recommend!!! read more

Pacific Catch is always such a great experience. I'm a regular, and honestly, I never get tired of going. This time, I had the macadamia-crusted sea bass with asparagus -- absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the black cod entrée, which came with string beans, and it was just as amazing. We finished with the chocolate molten lava cake -- my favorite dessert, hands down. It was superb, rich, and perfectly gooey. Our waiter, Eduardo, was super friendly and went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. He even brought us fresh mint for the dessert and made me the perfect less-sweet nohito. I asked for less sugar, and he nailed it. I really love the staff here -- they always hire such friendly, helpful people who make every visit a pleasure. read more
