When I first entered the little shoppe the vibe is emmaculate as I was greeted by the cashier at the front. She had a smile that easily lit up the room and her energy was just kind and friendly. I looked around a bit to find a simple local gift for a friend's birthday and I found the perfect thing! I know he is a lunch box person, and I found this little cute compactable lunch box for him. And the amount of candles in this little shop was just abundant. I smelled all the candles that were there that day. I found a couple for myself at the same time so next time I can come back and buy some. But, I found the perfect ones for my friend~!! The amount of stuff and local created gifts are just amazing. I will be back here for tons of gifts!!

In this economy, where gift shops are a dime a dozen, customer service is important. There is some cute stuff, but a lot of the items she sells in store you can find elsewhere for cheaper, and they claim it's all local artisans, but some of it is giving dropshipping. With one hand on our champagne glasses and the other dipping crackers into delicious fruit compotes (that are also sold in the store) and cheeses, my sister and I made our way around the store mentally buying fairy-princess gear for the nieces, barbecue accessories for the dudes, and that retro-looking stationery with the naughty captions for ourselves. The store is now much more open in design, and while they've pared down the home decor stuff, they've brought in a lot more bags and costume jewellery and spa stuff, not to mention a lot of gifts for kids, which is important to indulgent auntie-types like me.

I've been wanting to check this place out for the past 5 years (I've heard very good things). Since I knew it was in North Van, part of me always imagined it to be on the Lonsdale Quay and not in Deep Cove (I haven't been to the Cove in years, shame on me). Quel surprise to stumble across this amazing shop. The jewelry and accessories are gawk-worthy and the Goddess hand cremes transformed my stinky hiker self into a decadent-smelling diva. The store is beyond cute, you really must come. It's a girly place filled with fun gifts for self and others. Great place to swing by while in the Cove! Awesome factor x100: they carry these really cute/hilariously rude cartoon cards!

I've driven past this store a gazillion times and always smiled at the happy, exuberant exterior and toy display. I finally visited inside the store today and I was even more impressed. I personally love jigsaw puzzles, and this place has an excellent selection of puzzles in every range of difficulty, from 100 pieces to 1000 pieces. Most of the manufacturers were high-end brands. Walking around, I was so impressed by the sheer selection and types of games and toys in this place. I loved how they all seems to foster the imagination and creativity, and/or were "fun educational" in nature, like really fun geocaching tools, or science kits or activity books or "fossilized poop" (I'm not kidding you. From 1000 years ago. For real!). Games and toys that make exploring and learning fun. And lots of stuffed animals, too. And advent calendars in many fun themes (including crafty advent calendars). I loved how the toys were not stereotyped or categorized by gender or age. I kept thinking, if my kids were younger, this totally would be my go-to toy store. It is perfect for any kid IMO. You'd be hard-pressed not to find the perfect toy or game for even the pickiest kid here.

It has one thing and one thing only: postcards. The name doesn't lie, it is THE place for postcards. This tiny store within one of the arts and crafts buildings on Granville is jam packed with postcards from floor to ceiling. Prices can range from $2-$5+ depending on the size. You can buy postcard sets or individual ones. There are special occasion cards (birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc.) but also just random ones that reflect all types of themes. She also showcases a lot of local artists which is great. I've gotten tons of unique Vancouver-themed cards every time I visit. As a snail mail enthusiast who spends way too much time on Postcrossing, stamp chain cards, and general swapping, I've sunk quite a bit of money here. The postcards are cheaper once you get to the buy 5 / buy 10 mark and there are just so many to mix and match from. The lady who runs the store is also incredibly nice. When I told her I was from out-of-town, she gave me her card and mentioned that if I find anything I like, I can email her and she would be willing to ship them to me. I haven't taken her up on her offer yet, but one of these days!

As I recently started collecting postcards, I put the Postcard Place in my Yelp bookmarks. This little store is so cute and there is such a variety of nontraditional and non-touristy postcards. They were a little bit more expensive than your regular run-of-the-mill postcards but the quality in the majority of them was on par. Honestly I was kind of taken aback simply by the variety here. Variety in the subject matter and the types of papers available. There are so many unique cards, almost too unique to want to let go of them by mailing them to someone else. It might just makes someone's day though to get such a special treat in the mail. I will definitely be back if I'm in the Granville Island area the next time I'm in Vancouver.

I have been to the Old Faithful shop many times and it hasn't disappointed. It is very true to their theme of artisan, home-made or well-crafted-and-the-woodsy-bent items, which speaks to a particular customer. Some may love this shop and others may find it expensive and too specific to integrate into their personal style. I appreciate the care in the selection of the goods and the kindness of the employees. The first time I was in the shop (being overwhelmed by the visuals) I just bought several journals. When I got home, I realized that I wanted more and ordered them by phone because they don't use their website for special orders. They were very nice and when the package arrived, it was beautiful. Brown paper package, tied up with string... no kidding. This time I bought a huge wool blanket that I thought I could fit in my luggage (I couldn't) and it made a perfect gift. The thing about the blanket purchase was how much banter I had the the employees while I was purchasing it. While we were talking, THEY referenced that I had bought the journals the previous year. What memory. Their attention to detail gets me every time. I will always go back to Old Faithful when I am in Vancouver... whether or not I can fit what I buy into my luggage.
