We didn't get a chance to do the tour but wanted to leave a review because the staff was so nice and really tried to offer their best alternatives and said they'd call me if anything opened up when we called in to see about last minute arrangements. Unfortunately I hadn't seen this as an option when I looked up dune buggies initially, so they already had their seats full and the solo tour was just a out of budget for us after a day of shopping and eating. Overall, I think the service is affordable when compared to rentals at other companies though! Just didn't work out this time for us. I had visitors in town and they didn't feel like driving themselves. So I booked this tour for 6 of us based on a friend's recommendation. This was definitely an excellent experience for dune-driving beginners! The driver was friendly and experienced, the vehicle allowed for very thrilling rides down steep banks, even sideways. It was good thrills especially for the end seats, and being able to check out the dunes to decide if you want to do the ATV. We have rented dune buggies from the various companies before and I'm still not brave (or foolish) enough to get the thrills riding on my own like we had on the tour. read more

My friends and I had an amazing time with pacific adventure tours! As the company will tell you it's like Indiana Jones or Ghost Rider for an hour!! My group of 5 had the whole vehicle to ourselves as it seats only 5! The back was the bumpiest and wildest part of the car! The front and middle portions of the humane were very tolerable for those not as adventurous! About 30 min in the guides will stop and take photos of you with the humvee which gives you a break from the bumpy ride and you can rotate seats! Our guide was ripping through the sand dunes and we enjoyed going up, down, and sideways throughout the dunes!! I was debating between this tour or just going to one of those other ATV rentals but I'm so glad we chose this option instead! With the driver we got a wilder ride compared to how we would've driven ourselves in the dunes! This was also a much more affordable option for my group! Our driver was very friendly and made sure we had a great day out on the dunes! Goggles are provided if needed but I would recommend bringing a buff because sand will be flying! Me and my family went to go ride as we thought it would be a great way to try new things. We found this experience to be surreal like a rollercoaster through a desert. It was my daughter and I and both my 11 year old grandkids and I could have don't this for hours, we didn't want it to be over! Our driver (owners son, I'm bad at names!) was the best! After seeing the humvee tours out on the dunes Saturday afternoon, I immediately knew it would be an awesome Father's Day gift for my husband. I called when we returned to the trailer from our Saturday outing. The front office woman was really helpful and kind but informed us they were fully booked. Makes sense - busy weekend and I called last minute. She told me she would call me back if a cancellation came through. I didn't hear from her Saturday evening so assumed it wasn't going to happen. She called back Father's Day morning and said there was a last minute cancellation and we could take the 11.30am spot. It seemed like the stars aligned because this was a perfect time (right after check-out but not too late since we had a long drive back to The Bay). We arrived and were greeted by Lutzi who took us on the most incredible ride ever! Our kids (7 &9) were screaming in the back with excitement and joy! My husband was smiling ear to ear! Lutzi was really special - very informative about the land/history and a fantastic driver who made us feel safe but gave us the ride of a lifetime. My Husband and I went on a hummer dune tour with Pacific Adventure Tours and it was crazy! You meet the driver (who, in my opnion, is an amazing stunt driver) at a diner and hop into the hummer and get strapped in and you're off! The actual "ride" is probably around 30-40 minutes but it is wild! The driver will take you down steep dunes at crazy speeds. He'll let the hummer slide down the dunes, he'll go backwards over them, he'll make your heart stop! I would compare this to the wildest rollercoaster I've been on...and then remember that it lasts 30-40 minutes. This is NOT for the faint of heart. But it was a great time. The driver is very capable and by about halfway through I was really enjoying myself and trusting that he wouldn't injure us all. The hummer never flips over so don't worry about that. Best way to do the dunes. I've heard about the dunes and have wanted to ride the dunes for years. I had knee surgery 4 weeks prior and I was worried it would be too bumpy. I sat in the front passenger seat and my knee was safe and sound so I got to enjoy the entire ride. My hubby (62), son (21) and daughter-in-law (20) came with. It was just the four of us. Loved that. It's the last weekend before our 10 year old goes back to school and we searched up and down the coast to see what we can do at such a limited time, and decided on a 3-day visit to the central coast. We initially thought of renting ATV's but didn't have time to do the 4hr online course so we checked out the humvee rides. Thanks to the previous positive reviews, it didn't take much convincing for us to book our Sunday morning ride. J-Boy had no clue what we were doing that day and the second he saw the humvees pull up, he got so excited and couldn't wait to get the ride started!! It's an hour-long ride which felt like Radiator Springs / Thunder Mountain / Indiana Jones / Tower of Terror all rolled into one ride! Our driver was amazing and I loved how he would throw us off by explaining what was around us, get us to look around, only to throw us for a loop and literally drive down vertically to what were easy 40-50' drops! J-Boy sat in the "booster seat" in the middle and he liked it but when our driver gave him the option to ride shotgun, that's when he had the most fun!!! Hubby and I sat in the middle and another couple were part of our group and they were in the rear seats. It can get pretty cold during the ride so make sure you are clothed in layers. Goggles are provided although sunglasses would suffice. We tried to keep our mouths closed but it's hard when you're screaming and laughing so we probably swallowed some sand. It was definitely worth the price. We had enough cash with us so we got the $3 off each and only paid $52. Please don't forget to tip the driver because he is pretty awesome. His dad drives the other humvee. It's a family business so it's definitely worth supporting!! We wouldn't mind doing this again and I texted my sister as soon as our ride was done, telling her we need to come back and do the ride together!! Saw many folks stuck or not having as much fun due to not being familiar with the rules out there...got to keep eyes out for other riders both cars and motorcycles.
