Driver met us at the Hummer and was super friendly. Teens picked their seats, and we were offered the option to change seating halfway through. The back seats were more bouncy, and the shoulder seatbelts were entirely necessary. Wow! Driver surprised and scared me a bit. He was clearly in control of the rig and knew the route he wanted to take. Driver even understood that the ladies needed a restroom before the ride was over, so we used the dunes outhouse. So, so, so fun!! At little scary at first and very soon it became exhilarating. You scream and laugh so much it hurts your cheeks. My kids 7 &10 loved it. The were super COVID cool with masks and sanitizer. You go as a private group. Sanitizes between groups. Very cool to see historical Chumash grounds. I highly recommend doing it in the morning. I took my partner here for her birthday during covid and everything was clean and sanitized inside the truck. I wanted to do something adventurous and this was it! We took the hummer out on the dunes and were passengers strapped in safely in the back. The driver was amazing navigating the Pismo dunes!! He knew them very well and we had so many thrills!! Going down completely vertically and we even went backwards on the dunes. Lots of dips and craters and we were definitely screaming and had a blast! We even stopped at the highest point to soak in the view of the coast and take some pics. I wouldn't suggest it for the faint-hearted but if you're looking for an adventure and a memorable time, I highly recommend this out on the famous Pismo Dunes!! 10 stars!! Literally one of the greatest experiences of my life!! Our driver was Lutzy who many other reviewers had and enjoyed just like we did. As we waited to leave he answered all my curious questions about their operation... they have 5 Hummers, all constantly being worked on to ensure they are in top shape. He said if they're lucky they can get a month of use from ball joints. I felt confident in the vehicle and our driver's knowledge of it. Then he told me he has been doing this for over 20 years and that also helped me feel comfortable. And OMG when we got out onto the dunes I needed to keep reminding myself over and over... "this guy has been doing this for 20+ years, he knows what he is doing" because what we did on the dunes was nothing short of terrifying in the best way possible. I myself have never driven faster than 15 or so mph out there because I've always heard "it can suddenly just drop off" ... well we were going 45mph drifting sideways and it's because the driver knows the area so well. For the first time in my life I actually felt that sensation where it gets smoother the faster you go because you are skipping over the sand. It felt like I was in a trophy truck in the Baja 1000. Then we ventured deep into the dunes where I have never dared to go before on my own. We went into these huge bowls, round and round transferring over the top. Lutzy explained to me that when he is going clockwise in a bowl, he can get to the top and look into the next bowl to make sure there was no one already in there. There were times I was so disoriented I had no idea which direction the ocean was. We drifted up and down dunes, and did so much other crazy stuff I would never be able to do myself. This is truly the best way to get a safe thrill at the dunes. Take advantage of these professional drivers and their expert knowledge of the area (and their incredible badass vehicle) to get in and out safely while having a TON of fun. I will definitely being doing this again!! read more

Unbelievable! I seriously am blown away at the power of these vehicles. We really wanted to go on the dunes but couldn't find anything to take my 4 year old son on. Xtreme Hummer was an incredible experience! I thought it would be super basic, but Lutzy, our driver, was a true professional who knows the dunes and the vehicle like the back of his hands. They made everything very easy and smooth. We did this before ATVs and I highly recommend it as your driver can give you additional local tips for how to get the most out of that too! While it was surely a wild, high thrills ride, at no point did we feel unsafe and Lutzy was in great control of the vehicle at all times. Also, they were full, but added us to the waitlist. I would definitely recommend doing this tour! We had a blast flying up and down the dunes we even went on a rescue mission when one of the other hummers got stuck on a hill in the middle lol. I went for my birthday back in May and had no that the atvs places were closed due to covid. So we decided on this and it was amazing! If you are on the fence about taking this Humvee tour, go! Lutzi is awesome and an amazing driver. He's friendly, knowledgeable and very skilled in maneuvering the dunes. Prices are reasonable and well worth it, and they're only doing private tours currently, so it's very COVID-friendly. You'll enjoy a full hour on Pismo's natural roller coaster, and if you sit in the back (best seats), it's extra bouncy. Bring sunglasses, a light sweatshirt, and cash and you're all set. We were concerned about safety and getting sand blasted, but it was totally fine. The back seats have 5 point harnesses and the ride felt thrilling but still safe. This was an awesome, thrilling adventure with my 11& 13 year old boys. The owner meets you near the dunes and provides googlesto protect your eyes from the sand and let's you choose a seat in the giant military Humvee. Seats range from rollercoaster bumpy, to the tame one up front, but all have secure 5 point harnesses to keep you inside the vehicle. You take a slow scenic drive along the beach over the dunes. Then things get exciting! The Humvee can slide and take stomach dropping turns all over the beautiful dunes. Our driver pointed out native American and wildlife/preservation points of interest, as well as stopping to take our picture at the peak of the dunes. He even stopped to let my younger kid take a breather when he felt a little car sick. This is a fun family experience, and great way to see the dunes. read more
