Real help for Misophonia and Hyperacusis. My teenage daughter is finishing up her treatment at PAC Audiology for both Misophonia and Hyperacusis. We are very grateful to Anna Mamiya and the team at PAC for helping our daughter! Her condition made everyday life for her very stressful and painful. It impacted pretty much every aspect of her life and determined what we could do as a family. We are now able to eat dinner as a family again and go out in public to loud spaces - like the mall, Costco, etc. School has become much easier. The treatment does not cure misophonia, but it does teach her brain that the trigger sounds are not something that it needs to react strongly to and get away from. Yes, chewing sounds will always be annoying, but there is no strong emotional response anymore. Dr Maimaya is the second audiologist I've used. I had no point of reference for the first folks and didn't realize what I was missing. She was incredibly thorough and took time to explain to me what she was doing and what my results meant. I didn't feel rushed and felt like my options were clearly explained. The craziest thing is that when I went to pick up my new hearing aids, she forgot to give me the cable for the charger. I didn't realize this until she showed up at my house that evening to drop it off. That's someone who takes their responsibilities seriously and cares about their patients. I would steer clear of this office. I did not feel that the patient's hearing was high on the priority list here. I made an appt here after learning that my trusted audiologist no longer takes our insurance. I had a thorough audiologist exam sent to them, twice, because they lost the first one and blamed my previous audiology office. I had the product brand and model chosen, and insurance info supplied several weeks upfront. The expectation was that I would order the devices from them, use the insurance available as best it made sense and establish new care. This doctor does not delegate and insists on doing all of the insurance, billing etc ( now i see why) but had done nothing upfront. The visit turned into 3 hours of her trying to calculate different outcomes by manipulating the claims and charges. No discussion of my hearing except to ask if i knew about it, as she showed me the exam id supplied her, no exam needed, no sample models of hearing aids available to choose color from, no measurements, The visit started 30 min late with her "asking" so, you dont want these hearing aids anymore -and pulling my current ones toward her chest as if she'd like them. (!?) then we discussed the options of truhearing or straight insurance purchase . She repeatedly said things like , the other doctor usually does the tru hearing so straight insurance is better, and we usually schedule 45 min appt for "this" . I reminded her that id only been in 10 min. And only want to just order the specific hearing aids. What followed was a clusterwind of 3 hrs of her having me wait through patients and call insurance companies and her proposing different fraudulent scenarios to get the best price for her and I both. She kept repeating, " I dont know why Im doing this for you"' It felt like a pushy slimy used car sale rather than a healthcare visit. I kept asking What is going on here? The insurance is great, why not just order the hearing aids and bill it? Well, as it turned out, after I left with understanding that she'd " look into insurance" and let me know my final cost ( the whole point of my waiting a month and coming in in the first place) I didn't hear back. I called in after a while to find out : 1. She had placed two claims with my insurance company, one for hearing aids that i had not received , and she had not ordered, another for an exam that never happened here. 2. I would eventually get my hearing aids but that would take up to two months since they will wait to get paid by insurance, then place an order, then bring me in for a fitting. This is bass ackwards and leaves me without hearing aids yet two more months. I balked and got a call back that they would retract their claim. 3. I called my insurance company because I was needing to find yet another audiologist and would want to use my insurance coverage for their hearing aids. They informed me that there remained a claim for a hearing exam by PAC audiology. I scheduled and visited a new audiologist, In an hour, I ordered new hearing aids, was given a clear price with insurance calculated in, left with loaner hearing aids to use while I wait a few days for mine to arrive and a follow up appt. As it should be. I dont know what is happening at PAC audiology, but do yourself a favor and find an honest patient-centered audiologist who wont waste your time or see you as a financial figure to manipulate. I am a frequent concert-goer and wanted to purchase a pair of custom concert earplugs to protect my hearing. After searching online for audiologists, I decided to give PAC Audiology a try after reading numerous positive reviews. Dr. Anna and Dr. Marcy were both incredibly helpful in making sure my earplugs were a perfect fit. When my earplugs first came back, my right earplug didn't feel entirely comfortable. I came back twice for complementary adjustments, and eventually Dr. Anna ordered me a new right earplug made with slightly different specs. I really appreciate all the time and effort she and Dr. Marcy took to make sure I was happy with the earplugs. Scheduling with the front desk was easy, and they were usually able to fit me in within the same week. I had tinnitus and it was getting worse day by day, so I searched the internet for a Japanese specialist and came here. I spoke with the doctor in hopes of getting some relief from this tinnitus. I visited PAC Audiology to have custom earplugs made and to have a full hearing panel done to understand hearing issues I'd been experiencing for years. After completing the panel and exploring options, I decided to pursue hearing aids. This was influenced by recent studies establishing a strong correlation between even moderate hearing loss and cognitive decline. Those studies also established that hearing aids can cause a person with moderate hearing loss to be no more likely to experience cognitive decline than the population with no loss. The audiologists and team at PAC Audiology are fantastic - they are extremely competent and friendly. Dr. Mamiya helped me understand my options and we selected a hearing aid approach that I am very happy with. I was fitted for custom earplugs by Dr. Mamiya, owner of PAC Audiology. The whole process was easy and without any problems. She made molds is both the right and left ear canal and then sent them off to the lab to be made. When completed, I returned and Dr. Mamiya was very thorough in making sure they fit properly and then instructed me on how to put them in my ears myself. She explained the function of the different filters I had chosen in regard to the amount of decibel reduction each performed. The whole process from the very start to the finish was excellent. I just wanted to take a tiny moment out of my day to express my utmost gratitude for YOKO MILLER at PAC Audiology. I came to her after experiencing a HORRIFIC experience with another audiology office. My experience was extremely painful and traumatizing. I was having custom hearing aids made, and, the substance that was put in my ear for the mold, would NOT come out. After prodding and pulling, it finally came out, leaving me in excruciating pain and bleeding from both ears. Dr. Anna Mamiya is a fantastic audiologist who really cares about her patients. She goes the extra mile ... and then some ... to make sure you are completely satisfied and happy with your results. I finally got hearing aids because my wife was tired of me constantly saying "What?" every time she talked to me. I have very unusual ear shapes and it was difficult to make standard hearing aids fit me. Dr. Mamiya worked with me over several visits to make adjustments until everything fit perfectly and worked the way I wanted it to. PAC Audiology We initially met Dr Mamiya at the annual misophonia conference in Denver 2019. She is located in Bellvue, we are 90 miles north in Bellingham. My wife made an appointment for our eldest daughter who was diagnosed in 2016 Marsha Johnson in Portland. It has been hard for us. Family dinners basically impossible. We got in to see Dr Mamiya in October and our lives have changed. We now can have family dinners. My daughter is more tolerant of many triggers and doesn't simply go ballistic before anything can be changed. She is no longer basically in tears when I scratch my chin stubble while driving and she is in the front passenger seat. Dr Mamiya's treatment with specialized white noise hearing devices has taken her from severe to mild by her rating system. Her technique and data collection appear as objective as one can get with a soft science like this involving people. I was just telling her that I would have happily traveled across the country a few times a year to help my otherwise daughter who plays club soccer, gets strait As, and participates in numerous school clubs and is VP of her grade in student government. This disorder was crippling, it is down to inconvenient and I am hopeful it will be downgraded to occasional nuisance under her care. Results may vary, my daughter is highly motivated and has been using the aides almost 12 hours a day and doing breathing/meditation exercises. I am thrilled. I have had difficulty hearing for over 15 years. I had been evaluated by at least four different audiologists. All said my hearing was within normal limits. I still didn't hear well, especially conversations in a busy environment. I found myself drifting into a fog of not joining in conversations and loosing out socially and it began to affect my work. I visited Dr. Anna Hiroka Mamiya because my hearing aids, purchased elsewhere 4 years ago, were not operating properly. While Dr. Mamiya could have easily advised me to purchase new hearing aids. Instead she took the time to investigate the problem and recommended a much less costly manufacturer refurbishment to extend the life of my devices. I was impressed with both her caring manner, expertise and honesty. No question I will be returning to PAC and Dr. Mamiya for ongoing care for my hearing problems and ultimately new hearing aids. Why did I not return to the hospital from who I purchased my hearing aids you may ask. On virtually each visit I was seen by a different audiologist, all very competent, but it was a big box store feeling, not a personal experience. Dr. Mamiya and her staff are welcoming, patient, and thoroughly professional. I came for a hearing test after noticing I was having difficulty filtering out background noise at meetings. Dr. Mamiya conducted an extremely detailed test and then sat down with me to review the results. She did not pressure me to buy hearing aids, but provided me with information and let me make my own decision. As a relatively 'young' person, I feel the stigma around using hearing aids and find it funny, as I've been wearing glasses or contacts since 3rd grade. Dr. Mamiya helped me to get over the stigma and do what is best for my life and, it turns out, mental health as well. I went to see Dr. Mamiya for some problems with my ears. Was I scared? Heck yeah. When she handed me a box of tissue before explaining to me what was going on. Dr Mamiya is sweet, helpful, and very gentle in her approach. I went to her when I realized I was missing some of what people were saying at meetings, and at home, too. There was no pressure to buy anything, she simply told me my options after a detailed hearing test. One of those options was to live with my inability to hear certain sounds, which I chose not to do. I purchased wonderful hearing aids that are top of the line, and I love them.
