Super cool place that qualifies as a hidden gem as it's tucked down a little alley way. Inside,…read morethey have an upstairs dining rrom and downstairs a sweet bar and speakeasy vibe. Loved it. They did seat us under a staircase and it was annoying hearing the heavy footsteps stomping up and down throughout dinner service. The food was very good to stellar! As others have mentioned, the Tacos are King here. Tartare Tacos are amazing, and we loved the Salmon Civiche and the carnitas tacos, as well. Flathead Civiche was delicious, Brussels Sprouts were super tasty, and we also enjoyed the twice cooked Pork Belly. Not so good was the Pato Ahumado. The mole was really tasty but not enough, and the breast was really tough and fatty, plus no proper cutlery provided. Really disappointing, as we couldn't eat or enjoy it and it was like we just threw $72 away. While I did appreciate their coursing, we did wait for long periods between. Cocktails were good, as was a glass of wine, but pours are very light. Recommended, for sure. Avoid the duck.

The tacos were amazing!! The chips and dip were also very good and had a nice balance of flavor. Was something unique that I had not tried before. Everything tasted high quality with a large depth of flavor. Would highly recommend!

So I had previously been to the crown street store and was super disappointed, a year or two later…read moreI've decided to give them another chance. I ordered the pork burrito which was real dope, pork was tasty good amount of guacamole and a nice change from black beans that most places are using these days (cantina Mobil use pinto beans) I did opt out of chipotle mayo on the burrito (because I fucking hate chipotle sauce and I hate mayonnaise even more) The friend I ate with got the beef tacos and the pork tacos, pork was the obvious winner however they too didn't like the chipotle mayo sauce (and they are a chipotle sauce lover) Also the hallway that leads from the front of the restaurant to the seating out the back smells rank, fix the chat sewerage smell ASAFP! In conclusion I was very satisfied with my $12.50 burrito, the chipotle mayo hybrid sauce isn't for everyone and they better fix the smell.

Probably the best tacos I've eaten in Sydney. Not probably...definitely…read more Cantina Movil recently underwent renovations at their HQ on Glebe Point. They got rid of that cute truck-shaped bar, and instead created an open bar space with stools. The new layout looks pretty slick and contemporary. To be honest, their old layout was very charming and almost romantic. But this is Glebe, and there's so much competition, so if they want do a Madonna now and then, I'm okay with it. ANYWAY....The menu is small, but what they make...they make really well. I recommend ordering their 3 for $10 tacos, and downing them with some good ol' fashioned Tequila...ahem I mean Corona. The tacos are small, and on soft tortillas (which have a very homemade flavor to them!). They come with the filling of your choice, crisp cabbage, queso fresco (THE BEST!), and a lime/orange dressing which I can't quite place but might be the marinade. I strongly recommend getting the guacamole add-on. And if you're a little more adventurous, ask them to add the habanero (but tell them to put only a little, or you'll be breathing fire through your butt for a week!). This might also be one of the healthier alternatives too. Unless you order the burrito. Only order the burrito if you are HUNGRY. I mean, that thing is massive. Just don't be a prick and order the Burrito Desnudo (naked burrito) because then that's just a salad and you can get that anywhere. The soft corn tortillas are fantastic, and carbs are good for you. I disagree with general consensus that this is "cheap" takeout. This is premium takeout food, and is not really cheap (except for the 3 for $10 tacos, which I think are available on a certain weekday). Staff are generally pretty friendly, but they often seem short staffed.

The cocktails were great. We tried the passion fruit, blood orange and habanero Margarita as well as "Death in Tijuana". The food was great too. We had Quest fundido, flautist de pollo and quesadilla pollo loco. Very tasty! If I lived in the city I would be here regularly

Was invited to Calaveras by a guy who happens to be a Mexican food expert and an actual "Chilango"…read more(a person from Mexico City) Calaveras may be one of the best Mexican restaurants in Sydney, in a pretty small pool of choices.... we started with the guacamole which came with blue corn chips dusted with Tajin spice, then moved on to ceviche tostadas, which were very fresh, but could have benefited from some spicy salsa. Which then promptly arrived. Then we tried the queso fundido, which was a hot bubbling concoction of molten cheese, beans topped with pork chorizo, with flour tortillas for sopping it all up. The highlight was some very tasty al pastor tacos garnished with fresh pineapple diced, and the best stone ground corn tortillas in Australia from La Tortilleria (in Melbourne) fresh made Churros in chocolate sauce finished off the meal in a perfect way. Also had an "original" margarita made with el Jimador tequila which done perfectly. Highly recommend Calaveras!
