Let me brag what an awesome Amazing dentist Dr.Pablo Liciaga is. I am one that had major anxiety sitting in a dentist office. for over 23 years I been in search of a good Dentist that is in practice for all the right reasons, incredibly ethical, professional, extremely gentle and wonderful. Well after 23 plus years I finally have found the BEST DENTIST EVER!!! I literally drive an hour to see him he's that amazing. Dr.Liciaga is a straight shooter a perfectionist. You could tell he truly loves what he does bye his happy go lucky personality. He handled my anxiety like never before, never felt the needle when he numbed me. I absolutely love his gentle demeanor and how he is very thrall in explaining every detail before going forward. He will make sure you understand and agree. I will recommend him to everyone. I'm so happy I finally found my Dentist that I will be going to for the rest of my life. The office staff are super nice and friendly, always been so wonderful, professional and welcoming.. This dentist is a complete QUACK! Went in with a bone fragment pushing through my gums from a wisdom tooth and this moron told me it was a giant canker sore. I told him it was hard like bone and I have never in my almost 40 years had a canker sore. He looked at it for all of ten seconds and told me to put some antibacterial cream on it for a week. I went to another dentist for a second opinion and was seen by a periodontist who confirmed it was a bone fragment pushing through the gums from a wisdom tooth placing pressure on the bone. Dr Liciaga is by far the best dentist I have ever seen. From the minute you walk into the office everyone is really friendly and kind. I am terrified of getting dental work done, but the staff are so patient they really calm me down! The office is extremely clean and efficient. Dr Pablo is a miracle worker. I smashed my face, broke three of my teeth nearly all the way off on a Wednesday. I was supposed to leave on a trip on Monday. If you are looking for a competent, caring and honest dentist, call Dr. Liciaga and his team. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Liciaga. I have been a patient of Dr. Liciaga's since he took over Dr. Hall's practice in Ocean Beach over 18 years ago. I should have written a review for Dr. Liciaga years ago, but I don't write a lot of Yelp reviews. The reason why I'm writing this review now is because of what just happened yesterday. I had a serious issue with one of my teeth and I called Dr. Liciaga's cell phone at 4:15 p.m. from my car on my way home. I called his cell phone because I knew his office was already closed. He answered his cell phone and said he could meet me at the office at 7:30 p.m. I met him at that time, and he took care of my somewhat serious issue. Thank you, Dr. Liciaga. While I'm writing this review, I also want to also give a shout out to the entire staff and especially Julia who has been cleaning my teeth every three months for years. Went in to see if we could have a toothbrush because my son forgot his toothbrush and they want to charge me three dollars. The two assistant standing behind her one left to go get a toothbrush, and the other one stood there and they both looked at each other like the front desk lady was crazy for charging me three dollars. I was going through the negative reviews and they have to be fake. Heidi is great and has a great sense of humor. Asking if you want her to guess at your name spelling is so tongue-in-cheek humor. Love this dental office. My friend who had been going for decades sent me and she was totally right!! Everyone is super friendly and helpful, best of all the vibe is low stress~ love the cozy waiting room. This place is especially great for those of us have a little dentist fraidy-cat we are trying to manage. They are great at communicating what you need, and they don't do the crazy upsell and make you sit with a financial advisor to figure out how you are going to pay for dental work ~ you don't even really need. My insurance is an HMO, so I can't use it~ but I love and trust this dental office, so much I just pay out of pocket~ rather than going to anyone else. I've been searching for a dentist for my entire family and was pleasantly surprised to find this office close to my house. Super cute dental house and very clean. Front desk has been very kind and professional and the dentist seems great. I had my first cleaning yesterday, the hygienist did a great job. My 17 year old daughter will be getting A veneer for her front tooth in a few weeks. Stay tuned for photos and results! My daughter had an injury the broke her front tooth and Dr Pablo went above and beyond to perfect my daughters Veneer. He took a few attempts to get the exact tooth he wanted. I started coming to Dr. Liciaga a year and a half ago and I'm glad I switched! I got the feeling my old dentist was shady, so I checked out his yelp reviews. I was going to 1.5 star dentist. My teeth are worth more than 1.5 stars! So... I asked my friend Julia, who is the hygienist for Dr. Liciaga, if they had room for me. Luckily, they did. Both Julia and Dr. Liciaga are kind, personable people who are very gentle. They speak clearly and openly about what they're doing (or need to do) when they're doing it. I don't have the dread of going to the dentist because they were so rough anymore. (Of course, now I realize it was because he was worth 1.5 stars) The building is a cool, old house right down the street from the beach and Newport Ave. The couch in the waiting room is super comfy. For years I have had major anxiety with the dentists and weak teeth which has caused me to have more dentist visits than I like. Since I've been seeing Dr. Liciaga my dental health and anxiety had greatly improved. It's a warm and clean environment.Heidi at the front desk is so sweet, down to earth, and attentive. The office has great dental assistants and hygienists as well. Dr.Liciaga is a wonderful dentist. He is personable, gentle, great with kids, empathetic,conservative with treatment and doesn't up sell you, and is just a great all around dentist. My whole family goes to him as well as several friends and all of us are truly appreciative we have a awesome dentist!!!!! read more

I was recommended this dentist and decided to call and schedule an appointment. Heidi answered the phone and was seemingly polite in the beginning, she didn't seem too pleased I would be a new patient but provided me a date and time for an appointment. She asked for my name and I gave it to her, she then proceeds to say, 'Can you spell it for me or do you want me to guess' in the most inappropriate tone. Never in my life had I encountered such poor customer service especially for dental. I told her she didn't have to be rude and she continued, I asked to speak to a manager and she said she was the only person. To top it off she hung up on me. Now, if you are a healthcare provider and have someone like Heidi as the face of your business, I am sorry but you need to reevaluate your staff. There is no need to be rude to a potential patient. I understand its December 23 and no one wants to be at work but this is no excuse to act that way. Remember Heidi, without patients you won't have a job, our business pays your salary. read more

Dr. Liciaga is simply the best dentist. He is attentive and personable and makes you feel like you are in the best of hands. I had to get major dental corrections, (pulled teeth, implants, caps) all of which took over a year. And the end result is simply amazing. You would never know that I have had any dental work. I never felt any pain during any part of the process and the results speak for themselves. I recommend Dr. Liciaga to everyone and anyone that needs ANY kind of dental work done. I moved to San Diego a few years ago from LA, where I had the same dentist for the last 15 years. I was apprehensive and didn't want to look for a new dental office for the first year and a half I lived here, and the first office I decided to establish care at was not a great fit. When I found Dr. Liciaga's office it reminded me of my dentist/hygenist/office back in LA, and really felt like a small intimate dental crew who really cares about their patients. They are always available to check out any concerns I may voice. Their front desk support, Heidi, always goes above and beyond to get to know her patients and make them feel safe and comfortable, in my personal experience and observation in the waiting room. Julia, my hygienist, always puts me at ease and makes my cleanings so much fun, if you can believe it. We vibe on the same level, and it's super comforting. Dr. Liciaga is an angel, and will tell you honestly if he thinks your tooth needs attention right now, or if grinding it down for some reason or another would cost your tooth unnecessary integrity, and how long it can wait for treatment - if needed. He never upsells, and genuinely cares about his patient's quality of teeth (and, in turn, quality of life). I found Dr. Liciaga and Julia (and Heidi) after a previous dental office had quoted me a $7500 treatment plan, and Dr. Liciaga and Julia both examined me and felt that my case was not that severe, and I am SO grateful. I also have moderate-severe bruxism, and my enamel is constantly deteriorating, but they never make me feel bad about it and are only concerned with preserving what we can. I've been coming back for cleanings every 4 months, and exams every year, and ad-hoc appointments when I have a concern, for the past 2.5 years, and my teeth are healthy and feel strong. 10/10, would 100% recommend this dental team. read more

I recently moved to OB and was in search of a new dentist for an exam and cleaning. I found Dr. Liciaga via Yelp and decided to give him a try - I was not disappointed! I was warmly welcomed as a new patient and Dr. Luciaga engaged in friendly conversation with me while explaining my x-ray results, and also very kindly complimented my teeth and brushing regimen. I also really appreciated how he didn't try to have a conversation with me while cleaning my teeth because we all know that's just awkward/uncomfortable when you want to reply, but you just can't when the dentist is all up in ur mouth, ya know? I strongly recommend coming to Dr. Pablo Liciaga and his staff! He is thorough but doesn't try to upsell you or perform unnecessary procedures, like some other dentists (I previously had a bad experience at a different dentist). I received what felt like a very thorough and comfortable cleaning. I have some recessed areas in my mouth that become sensitive when scaled and the hygienist was very careful to numb those areas so I wouldn't be in pain. Night and day from the previous place I had the misfortune of visiting. Everyone in the office is kind and welcoming. Very happy client here! read more

All I have to say is this dentist was so amazing, I felt driven to write a review for him. I want to start off with HOW DEATHLY I am AFRAID of the Dentist. I haven't gone to a dentist for years because I hate how they never explain anything and just start doing crazy painful stuff to your teeth and gums. I get so anxious, I always feel like I am going to pass out. Ok! So when I arrived at the office, I felt my stomach churning and a huge lump in my throat. I was so scared that he would embarrass me with a lecture on how my dental hygiene was horrific. INSTEAD, I was greeted with a friendly smile and handshake. I was seated and he started to ask me questions. He then proceeded to explain what he was going to do and what he needed for me to do. At this point, I was calmer. Then he told me he had to handle a cavity. My heart about stopped. That meant drill and NEEDLES!!! OH MY GOSH...what I am going to do? I was thinking about leaving. "Is it too late?", I thought to myself. Before I got the chance to escape, he lowered the chair and told me, "You will feel a bit of pressure." Then I felt some tapping. You won't believe it. He gave me a shot and I didn't even feel it, AT ALL. He made sure the dental assistant kept me from drowning in my saliva and kept on checking on me to make sure I was ok. Finally I felt at peace. Before you know it. The ordeal was over. He sat me up and explained what I needed to do to keep my teeth and gums healthy. I scheduled an appointment with his amazing dental hygienist Julia, but that's another story. So my word of advice to those who are petrified of dentist. DON'T BE. Dr. Liciaga is a lifesaver! I was visiting friends in SD for a few days. On the first night, we had an accident with some rough injuries and an ER trip. Hours later, I call the office at 9am on a Saturday. He is fully booked but stays late just to accommodate us for a noon appointment. Right away there is an assessment and a follow up trip booked for Monday at 8am. This was a drastic change from all the other offices I called that only told me what they WOULDN'T do (ie - take insurance/credit/provide an appointment time). On the follow up visit a retainer is made and sent off. It was ready by 2pm. Due to the costs, Dr. Liciaga even waived his fees and we had to beg just to pitch in for the lab fees because he wouldn't take the money. I was surprised at the quick turnaround time to have major work done on a busy weekend. Dr. Liciaga also genuinely cares about his work. He stayed after our visit was over and gave a passionate consultation and future advice. If it were up to me, I would fly down from SF just to have him take care of things - HE IS THAT GOOD! How did I get so lucky? 2 weekends ago I got into a horrible bike accident where I lost 2 teeth, chipped a molar, and suffered some serious mouth trauma. The hospital could not salvage the teeth and also provided me no follow up care. I was in a terrible state of mind not knowing what I was going to do with a broken face. I somehow got lucky enough to have reached Dr. Liciaga through a list of providers my insurance company provided me. He took my appointment the morning I called even though he was already booked up after hearing my story. When I arrived at his office, he took X-rays and made sure I did not suffer from a broken jaw or had a root that had to be taken out immediately. 2 days later, he booked me for an early appointment to get impressions so I could be set up with something temporary so that I could actually go out in public. Throughout the whole experience, he was nothing but caring, professional, and honest. I can't believe how lucky I got. On top of all this, he knew insurance would not cover for the temporary 'cosmetic' work so he only charged me the lab fee for the set of flipper teeth. His staff reassured me that Dr. Liciaga was just super nice and wanted the best for his patients. Some highlights of my visits: - clean and comfortable office - modern equipment (ie. digital xrays) - helpful staff - respectful of patients' time (extremely short waits) - professional - experienced and knowledgeable - great quality of work provided (flipper teeth matched sizing and color with the rest of my teeth) Most importantly, in my opinion, Dr. Liciaga exemplified honesty throughout the care he provided me. I have had my share of bad dentists, mechanics, various other service professionals who have leveraged their knowledge and expertise to get you to pay for extra unnecessary add-ons. When I told Dr. Liciaga I wanted to fly down to get the rest of my case resolved by him, he told me honestly that with the amount of visits and follow up I was going to require, I should find myself a good provider in SF instead of accepting what I'm sure he knew was a money-maker case. Now approaching my sixth month in recovery, my healing journey is filled with endless doctors' appointments. Heidi at the front desk was very friendly and truly cared about the pain I was in; she scheduled an appointment for me the next week even though his schedule was full.
