(We walked after arriving at Central Station.) Room was cozy, super quiet and lovely. The only thing I'd change about the room (Room 8) is how external light from the night courtyard lights comes in over the top of the drapes. (The room was never completely dark at night.). Other than that, the room was perfect and very well serviced throughout our stay. Food and drink were awesome. Breakfast options were tasty and plentiful. We had dined at Vinkeles on a previous trip and it was amazing. We were sad it was closed this time. All staff were lovely especially Renee at the Front Desk. We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!

This time I was there with my daughter and her best friend (both 16) on their Spring Break trip, so my priorities looked a little less like nightlife and a little more like making sure everyone was fed, safe, and happy. My daughter's friend has a severe allergy to fish, nuts, and kiwi, so when we travel with her, we have to be really intentional about where we eat. De Dijk was the first place we stopped for food, and they were fantastic. The food was delicious, the staff was incredibly kind and friendly, and they were very attentive and accommodating when it came to her allergies, which I really appreciated. We were only in Volendam for two days, and we ended up eating here twice . . . partly because it was so good, and partly because they're one of the only places serving food on the Dijk after 9:00pm. This is a must-stop for me anytime I'm in Volendam, and I'll definitely be back soon.
