That being said, I can still appreciate full-fat and full-sugar baked goods, haha. They are a nut-free bakery, so if you are allergic to nuts, you need not worry about eating items here. And their (nut-free) carrot cake is really good! If I recall correctly, they put pineapple in it, yum! I didn't even miss the walnuts. The bakery is pretty and they have lots of ready to go cakes so you can pick one up last minute if you have to. When you buy anything pink in the shop, 20% of the sales go to Breast Cancer Research (not sure if this is just for the month of October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) or for always). The salted caramel brownie was phenomenal! So rich and buttery and filled with gooey salted caramel and chocolate chips. The cookie was good too, nice and chewy with lots of white chocolate chips, but the salted caramel brownie stole the show, for sure! Everything is baked by them, it is not one of those shops that buys stuff from Costco and resells them, lol, like some other shops in medical buildings. I was served by Esther herself, who is beyond lovely. She told me they recently opened 5 months ago and she's really trying to get the cafe more exposure through social media. She noticed my purse and told me she has the exact same one and brought hers out to show me. Immediately I knew this woman has good taste, lol. The cafe is super cute with a few seats to eat in. It's not too visible from the street, so just look for the medical/office building next to the Westgate Shopping Centre. There's free parking along the front of the building. The parking lot is actually quite large, but many spots are reserved for permit holders, so just look out for the signage. Esther's Cakes N Sweets is a gem. Sara contacted me back with the details. Her promptness, and respect for my lack of time and excessive amount of questions already gave me good vibes about them. I filled out a form on the site for a dozen custom cupcakes and heard a response first thing Monday morning. Following that, her correspondence with me was fast, polite, and efficient. She was very helpful and offered me suggestions and very accommodating for when I made a last-minute request. Payment options include both paypal or e-transfer. The custom cupcakes were great because we decided to do half chocolate with buttercream frosting and the rest vanilla with vanilla buttercream. She asked me for specifics on color, letters, occasion, and I also included a note. While I never ate the cupcakes, my fiancé assures me they were absolutely delicious! Every single time I went I would seek out her cute little display - it always reminded me of a garden sprouting cake. YUM. Jelena, the owner is sweet as pie, and she runs Bake Mob out of her home, which is amazing. She makes her wonderfully moist cake pops in a bunch of different flavours (my faves are the french vanilla, chocolate creamsicle, and red velvet), and can customize them based on your event or request. She'll do wedding pops, Christmas shaped pops...even sport shaped pops! She also makes a mean macaroon (of which I've devoured several), designs beautiful wedding cakes and of course, cupcakes. Bake Mob is always doing something great for the Ottawa community, like donating to charitable events or participating in awesome local shows like Urban Craft and Wed By Hand.
