We had cauliflower with pine nuts, lamb borek and chicken tagine. The lamb borek transported me back to Istanbul circa 2001. So delicious. The tagine was actually very good and I have no idea why there have been negative reviews. The portion was enough to be shared, chicken moist and tender with a slight sweetness. The cauliflower balanced everything out. For 2 people, this was satisfying without being over the top. Will definitely look forward to coming back here and fervently hope a Mecca Bah will open in Perth! ***we had no reservations but scored a seat immediately and food served within 10 minutes. Staff frequently checked in to see if we enjoyed the food. Strongly advise a reservation! **

I ordered the 'combo' and it was quite tasty - seafood, poultry, and pork over noodles in a spicy, delicious curry and coconut infused broth. It's a pay at the counter and display a number card kind of place so service wasn't really on offer. The decor while a bit dreadful was a cut above most of the other restaurants. And they do have a small children's play area to entertain the youngsters.

This was actually one of my favorite places I ate in the Gold Coast…read more After a few intense days of travel, I took a bit of a walk down the beach to get to The Cardamom Pod - because it looked fab from the reviews. I was not let down! I got a cute little table in the super adorable boho styled restaurant. I prefered the order at the counter and sit down type of style for lunch, as it gets kind of lonely when you have table service for one all the time. So I was happy that was the case here! #travellife I got the three entree plate and holy sh*t that was a good idea. I had a salad, an indian rice, and a veggie curry. I seriously ate that in less than a minute, it was so good. I also got a chai latte because those are always good, but I seriously ate my lunch before that chai came out. Good thing about chai is that it can also act as dessert, but I decided to go full force and get a vegan ice cream sundae also because I was starving and I can't turn down vegan desserts. I saw the looks of jealousy from the tables next to me. I was so happy to have my first vegan ice cream sundae in the two and a half years I've been vegan. As much as I tried, I could not finish that thing, so I took the brownie to go and it was a great snack later on the bus (where I also received looks of jealousy). I'd totally recommend the Cardamom Pod for a casual lunch in Gold Coast. I'd say the only drawback was that it was a tad pricy, but the vegan options and super cute ambiance make up for that.

Definitely a nice change from all the super-trendy, super-sleek Broadbeach eateries surrounding this place. The Cardamom Pod is charming without trying to be trendy or upmarket. Both times I went, I got a mix of things from the display case with rice and a savoury pie. This is a vegetarian restaurant, but they have clearly-marked vegan options and their staff knows what "vegan" means. Unfortunately, the two nights I went, the vegan stuff was mostly already gone, so I didn't have much of a selection. So vegans might want to make this more of a lunch or early-evening stop rather than heading in after 7pm like I did. On the flip side, because they were trying to get rid of their remaining food before closing, I did get a nice discount :) Food was tasty and filling, not amazing, but nice. My mom (who is not a vegan or vegetarian) got the non-vegan lasagne and raved about it. Only downside is it did seem like their regular prices are a little steep. Then again, this is a touristy area and most people around here are on holiday and willing to splash a little cash. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in the Gold Coast!

A delightful commissary for my stay…read more I had the opportunity to enjoy an extended stay at the Marriott Surfers Paradise and ended up using the Chapter & Verse as my 'commissary' eating and/or drinking here more or less once every day. The steak sandwich is stellar - it is in fact the only dish I ordered more than once. The chicken sandwich was also quite good but the dish I found to be most surprisingly delicious was the Caesar salad. It was packed with flavor - some nicely roasted chicken (not just dry breast meat), a poached egg, plenty of Parmesan cheese, and some nicely done croutons combined with a tasty Caesar dressing and crisp lettuce - and was both 'light' and satisfying. The pizzas were good but not on the same level as the other dishes I enjoyed...and the prawn pizza was better than the lamb. Actually, the smaller 'bar bite' garlic pizza was probably best of the bunch. As far as mixed drinks, I tried the English Garden on my first visit but found it too sweet to my taste. But the Chica Caliete was rather spectacular (when ordered without agave). That said, most meals I stuck with beer and I can heartily recommend the 4 Pines Ale. The bar/lounge is divided into two halves - an fancier inside and a 'beachfront' outside that overlooks the saltwater and sand pool. I always sat outside and enjoyed the weather and the view. The service was excellent.

It's a rarity to find a pub or bar in the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise where the staff actually enjoy working there. It definitely makes a difference to the venue's vibe! The bar staff also enjoy a good chat and a bit of banter across the bar and this is one of the few Irish pubs in Surfers that actually employees Irish people! Not only adding to the atmosphere, but it means there are staff who can actually pour a good pint of Guinness! There is live music most nights of the week from 9pm, with a band on every Friday and Saturday night. True to their roots there is also traditional Irish entertainment there every Sunday afternoon. In terms of food it has a great range of pub style food at great prices. I've found the food to always be amazing, even the specials (usually $10-15) are spot on! You definitely can't go past the $10 steaks that they do for lunch and dinner! One of the main things that I LOVE about the food here is that they stick to what they're good at; good quality pub-style food at a reasonable price! This is a great pub that caters for everyone, from families, to older couples and young 20-somethings looking for a good night out, there is something for everyone in Fiddlers. This is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the owners and management! See you there!

It was the best thing at the time. The two waiters that served us even introduced themselves by name and made us feel extremely welcome. It was such incredible hospitality that you wouldn't expect normally. The Depot is situated on Beach Road which is slightly off the main drag of Surfers Paradise. Beach Road is a flurry of new up-and-coming 'hipster' looking eateries - which is usually always a good sign of quality. They've also obviously put a lot of thought into their interior and decor which is always a plus. The food was incredible. We got quite a bit of food - the burgers were good and meaty. The ribs fell straight off the bones. The chips were good and the chicken tenders were... tender! Everything was just absolutely tasty and delightful. The shakes were also outstanding. A must visit!

My partner got the Depot Burger which had so much on it he couldn't even finish. The next time we went with another couple, and I had the Coney Island hot dog. For whatever reason cheese sauce is hard to come by in Australia, so having this chili and cheese dog was great. The Brooklyn Depot definitely lived up to its "American street food" motto. On a side note, I ordered my French fries with a side of ranch, and the American server asked me where I was from. When I replied that I'm from Michigan, she said only people from the States order ranch with their fries, and we commiserated about our shared love of ranch. Haha. She also didn't charge me for the ranch. Love this place. The only somewhat negative thing I'll say is they don't take reservations, and we had to wait almost a half an hour to get seated. But the food is worth the wait. Wish they had more beers on tap but considering they just opened, hopefully maybe in the future that will change.
