Giant Barron points, kusshi, kumiai, and kunamoto. Fresh, delicious, totally hit the spot.

I am a repeat offender (err customer!) at this stall at the Hollywood Farmer's Market every Sunday. These dudes are always here with AT LEAST 6 different varieties of oysters. And thanks to them I am now totally addicted to oysters. My suggestion is to buy an oyster knife (they'll even sell you one), buy a bag of your fave oysters, and learn how to shuck (easy, just YouTube it) because this way you'll get the most bang for your buck. But if you're just in the area and looking to satiate a killer oyster craving, they will happily (and quickly) shuck a bunch for you, place them on ice, all for less $ than anywhere else in Hollywood. They even have tables behind with lemons, cocktail sauce, and all the good stuff. They are knowledgeable about each type they have so If you aren't an oysterphile they will help you select something you'd like. Their oysters are always fresh and they change up the variety every week. I've tried at least 20 different oysters here and I've only been in LA for a year. My faves of their oysters are: beau soleil, kunamoto, gold creek, fanny bay, sunset beach, and kumiai. I'm looking forward to trying new ones that they bring out! They also sell clams and mussels. I've made some of the best linguine with clam sauce with clams purchased at their stall. But I cannot get enough of their oysters! I seriously cannot emphasize enough how fresh these oysters are; I've paid twice the price at nice seafood restaurants that boast about their oysters only to have been disappointed that it's "not as good as the Oyster Boys'."

Kumamoto, kusshi, shigoku, blonde, minter sweet oysters freshly shucked

I already love oysters but when you have them freshly shucked at the farmers market I become an excited little kid. I saw them at the Hollywood farmers market and I couldn't stop myself from having some fresh oysters for lunch. Food: At $2 an oyster, I had five different types: kumamoto, kusshi, shigoku, blonde, and minter sweet. They had more variety but I only wanted five at that time. To be honest I didn't even know there were so many different kinds of oysters. I preferred my oysters on the sweeter side instead of salty so he recommended these five kinds. I liked all of them and I think I liked the sweetest ones the most, although I've forgotten the names. I think it was the blonde and minter sweet ones. You can always just ask one of the guys about it. Service: The oyster boys were very friendly and eager to help out. They really try to give you the type of oyster they think you would enjoy based on what you usually like.

you would think because i love sushi, that i would automatically love oysters! but truth is they've been somewhat elusive to me. up until now, i've never really understood them, though i have most definitely tried. for example every time i've been to a wedding or a fancy event and they've had oysters, i've trepadatiously tried some because i've always heard oysters are divine and delicious and aphrodisiacs. the uhm, culinary aspect is uhm of course, what interested me most. uhm of course. anyway, up until now i've never really had the chance to be dazzled by oysters. well all that changed as i got to try oyster boys oysters at not one, but two parties, recently. they catered, and at both parties there were literally hundreds of oysters. and i mean hundreds! that's because their minimum for catering a party is 30 dozen! like i said i am absolutely not an oyster connoisseur. i have had them deep fried before and enjoyed them. but lets face it. what food deep fried doesn't taste good?!... well here they were totally raw, with a small but good selection of sauces. the oysters -- there were three different kinds -- were extremely flavorful and definitely scintillating and uniquely delicious. they weren't slimy slippery gooey as my prior experiences have been. instead they were fresh, velvety and bursting with unique seafood flavor. it felt and tasted to me like when i've had a perfect piece of sushi or sashimi -- just a melt-in-your mouth seafood sensation. rhett was the main oyster boy (oyster man, actually!) here. and he was a highly friendly and personable oyster expert, eagerly explaining the different types of varieties on hand. they were very good with just a dollop of sauce, yet also great with just a simple spritz of lemon. anyway, these guys were a nice fancy feature at the party, and they have certainly shown me how delicious and intriguing oysters can be. highly recommended.

    Sunday morning oysters!

Love love love the oyster boys! The guys who always run the place on Sunday mornings at the Hollywood Farmers Market (Sunset & Ivar) are super friendly and awesome. They always recommend their favorite oysters of the day when I ask for suggestions (they never disappoint) and also offer a good selection of about 10ish different types of oysters. Enjoying some super fresh and tasty oysters is definitely one of my favorite things to do on a Sunday morning in Los Angeles. I like to grab a dozen and split them with the bestie and we run to the back tables and inhale them with a little bit of Tabasco and fresh squeezed lemon juice. Amaaaazing. They're $2 each or $20 for the dozen I believe. A must must must try!

The best place to go for oysters in LA. I love eating a dozen freshly shucked by the guys (super nice guys!) with freshly squeezed lemon juice, Ponzu, and Tapatio. So fresh and delicious. Coming here is my favorite way to start my Sundays!

One of my favorite things to get at Fish King is the plate with the swordfish skewers. This dish is honestly so unique, and I haven't found anything like it anywhere else. It's basically two shish-kebab style sticks of seasoned swordfish, peppers, and tomatoes, and it's served with a few sides in addition to fried veggies and shrimp. I also really enjoy their tacos. They also have very generous servings of poke (I personally don't get the poke from here because it's already mixed in with raw onions and I don't like raw onion). Prices are all very reasonable--the swordfish plate I mentioned earlier is around $15 and a pretty large amount of food. Fish King does get pretty busy especially around mealtimes so it's better to order in advance and pick up so that you don't have to wait around as long. I think if you order in person, you can expect a 20-30 min wait when it's busy. There's a small lot on the side of the market and sometimes you can find street parking too. There are some tables on both ends of the market so you can dine in, it's very casual.

The BEST grocery store sushi I've ever had, and I think it's due to how fresh everything is so the sushi rice doesn't have the chance to get cold in the fridge. I find that a lot of grocery store sushi is ruined by the cold rice even if everything else tastes good. They were constantly restocking even in the 10 minutes I was in the store, and people were grabbing all the new stuff as the worker was putting them out, so I could only try a few things. It's okay though because the things I did try were so good. California roll was insane, so huge and stuffed with ingredients, was definitely my favorite. The spicy scallop maki also was pretty spicy! The seaweed salad was good, and I appreciated that they had a burdock root side which is pretty hard to find! Perfectly crunchy and had a slight sweetness to it, would recommend if you're trying to find something new. I will so be back here if I'm ever in need of a quick lunch or bite for a picnic or something. Wish we had something this high quality for the price in OC!
