Well kept secret in the area for quick hunting fishing needs.

The place may not look like much, but when it comes to customer service, they are much better and friendlier than Heritage Guild and less pushy than Strictly Archery. I needed to cancel an order from Heritage Guild due to them screwing up and then lying about it. I was happy to drive the extra distance to give the Owl's Nest my business. read more

The owners name is Jim. He and any part of his staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of any thing is this store from fishing to hunting. It is a family owned and ran business. With one of his best friends helping out on occasion. He will not sell you junk unless you specifically request it. Everything in this store from new to used is excellent equipment. He also sells on consignment and offers free bore sighting with your purchase. I have reluctantly bought two of my last guns from other dealers and have regreted it both times. When I've taken them to him when I bought my scopes he says I hope you didn't pay more than X amount of dollars for this. Then gave me his price. He can order what ever item he does not have in stock. And his guns all move quick. Stop by and see Jim he will not disappoint. read more

I don't know what the previous rater is talking about, the owner is a great guy and I have been going to this shop for years. The rater is right in that the shop is messy and it is clearly not some fancy sporting goods store. That is the charm of the place! There are not many places like this left in NJ, they have all been pushed out by the gun lobby and high end stores. I have moved out of the area, but always make a point of stopping at the Owls Nest when I come back from time to time. This is an old gem and it is like walking into a hunting shop from a bygone era. I'm afraid when this store and the few others close as the owners retire, a great piece of Americana will be lost at least in NJ. Make a point of going to the Owls Nest, if you can't get into a nice conversation with the owner or other customers about hunting or fishing than perhaps the problem is with you. read more

I've got to agree with Chris A's review. Not only is the owner a great guy, but he knows the area really well. If you're hunting deer, ask him for locations. If your a trapper, he'll help introduce you to some farmers that would love to have you on their property. Compared to some of the big box stores, he may be a little pricey, but it's worth it if you have questions. The pimple faced kid at Dick's won't be able to help you choose the right arrows for your bow. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars, is because it certainly could use some cleaning up inside. read more

The Owl's Nest is a great old fashioned rural outdoorsman's store, something that is hard to find these days. Perhaps Colleen should do us all a favor and stay out of what is a nice comfortable haven for men. Go to the Mall and leave places like this to us. Great Local Store! Very nice sales team, They helped me out many times and have given good advice. They try their best to take care of you, especially when they are busy. This is very hard to do in a retail business! I'd much rather spend my money in a shop that offers advice and has time for you, then the big box stores any day. Try to find this kid of service in the big stores. Watch out for the days when we loose these kind local shops! Do your country a big favor and support local businesses. Spend a little more for the efforts and costs it takes for these types of businesses to survive. read more
