Beautiful rose garden for a walk or picnic. Located right on the river path. Wide variety of roses designed in a way that reminds me of my local park.

We have been here each summer that we have been in Eugene and the roses and gardens are beautiful. Although the roses were still flowering in late July, I would say early to mid-July probably was when they were at their best. Great place to stroll around and walk with historic trees with descriptions next to them making it interesting to learn the history of the garden.

A very beautiful rose garden with a wide variety of species, including both common and rare ones. Each has a small introduction sign. The roses are in full bloom, with a delightful fragrance filling the air. When you get tired from walking among the sea of flowers, there are places to sit, rest, chat, or just zone out. It has its own parking lot, and parking is free.

Give-away!!! I will reveal when is the best time to come to this rose garden. My girlfriend loves nature stuff. and naturally, we have to stop by this beautiful rose garden during our Oregon trip. located right by the lake, the garden is perfect for photo shoot, biking, walking, resting or even hosting a wedding. The entry is free and offers decent number of parking. This garden is so relaxing. I wish i can spend more time here. Now, for what i promise..the best time to come to this garden to experience the full roses bloom is.....................................................................Mid May til second part of June. Coming here after June 30th is considered late. :))

So beautiful! Very peaceful and so surprising that a place this nice is free. Perfect place for a little afternoon stroll!

This rose garden is beautiful! You have to check it out. Nothing like I have ever seen before. So many varieties of roses and other plants. They all have their own plaque with a name on it which is very cute. It also connects to a long walking/bike path right along the willamette river.

The Owen Rose Garden was one of the stops that we wanted to make on our Eugene stop over on our road trip. Just our luck that our timing was off. All of the roses were not in bloom. But we did manage to get some beautiful shots and I put them here! I absolutely cannot imagine how beautiful this spot must be when the roses are in bloom! Do try to time your trip better than we timed ours and make a stop at the Owen Rose Garden!

After reading the comments I was surprised there was so many bloomed roses. I came October 1 and there were plenty. Very beautiful. I wouldn't recommend coming at night or when dark as there is a large homeless population down the street and quiet a few homeless were within the park. Otherwise, definitely worth a visit if you're in town.

Nestled down by the bike path in Eugene and the McKenzie River is a beautiful rose garden that has every rose blooming that you could imagine. I love to take the walk through the peaceful scenery and just take in all these amazing colorful roses. There is as a beautiful little gazebo and a place to set up a little picnic over to the side as well. A definitely must see if you need to wake up and smell the roses.

I love stopping in the ORG any time of year because there is always going to be some form of beauty all around. There is so much history here with the big tree that is in the center of the rose garden. It has stood there since 1847. My guy had some professional pictures taken, with him, and my 3 Son's several years ago around this tree for Mother's Day. They are so beautiful. Now a days it is roped off, and has poles under branches to help hold them up. You can reserve area's for events, which I think would be magical for any wedding. Just a walk through this park would put any frown upside down. It is so tranquil, and just taking in the beauty to stop to smell the roses puts you on a whole extra level of happiness. Really makes me miss being a florist some times. I love roses... hated just making a bouquet of them alone. But when they are growing, it is another story. Bouquet's need star gazer Lillie's or, peonies mixed with them. Rose bushes, are gorgeous because you get to see several steps of it's life outside of the vase. It is also mesmerizing to sit still, and watch the honey bee's go from flower, to flower. If you have never been here, I suggest taking time out of your day to relax, and enjoy the beauty here. I have very fond memories here with my baby girl Princess. My Pomeranian who passed away about 2 1/2 years ago. She loved playing fetch in the cool green grass on a nice summer day on our bike rides through the park.

    Look at these beauties!

Lucky us to have a morning to enjoy falls last gasp in the rose garden. Beautiful roses still with the morning dew on their petals called to us as we leisurely admired the blooms that were still there. So many colors and varieties to enjoy. I could easily close my eyes and imagine a beautiful spring wedding under the gazebo in the garden. There's also walking path adjacent to the gardens and bathrooms are right there. Ample parking is free as are the gardens. Enjoy!

Now who doesn't love themselves a nice rose garden?? Even though I visited in mid-April when absolutely no roses were blooming, I was still impressed by this verdant wonderland (I am from Arizona, so green is kind of a novel thing for me). There is a gazebo, 40+ year old massive cherry tree, and meandering walking path which courses beneath arbors of green climbing plants. There are also lots of benches and covered picnic tables where you'll find people reading, playing guitars, squeezing in a moment of quiet, or having picnics. Owens Rose Garden is home to more than 4,000 roses of over 400 different varieties!! The garden is butted up against the Willamette River, so if you're looking to get a little extra exercise in after basking in the glorious array of roses, you can easily sneak onto the nearby river walk path to get a few more steps in. A beautiful, well cared for rose garden - I hope to return someday when it is in full-bloom!

Very beautiful even if Rose's weren't in bloom. Must go when they are in season. Was nice to walk my dog here though.

A Beautiful Return to a Place Full of Nature and History…read more Both my wife and I had visited this spot before when we lived in the area, so with a little time to spare before lunch nearby, we decided to revisit it with her son and daughter-in-law. Nestled on a forested butte just east of the University of Oregon in Eugene, this area is absolutely stunning. The rhododendron garden is especially beautiful, offering a peaceful and scenic escape that feels tucked away from the city. Beyond its natural beauty, the area is steeped in history. One of the most notable connections is to Steve Prefontaine--a legendary runner and seven-time NCAA champion for Oregon. He trained in and around Hendricks Park and tragically passed away in a car accident on a winding road just below the park. His legacy lives on not only in the running world but also in the early success of Nike, where he became the brand's first sponsored athlete and helped elevate it to global prominence. Whether you're a nature lover, a history buff, or just looking for a quiet place to explore, this area is well worth a visit.

I grew up in the Cal Young area or Santa Clara, so I wasn't very often in this part of town and though Eugene isn't a huge city, you can easily not hit other areas of town. Hendricks Park is the oldest park in the city. It's mostly known as a rhododendron garden, but it has native plants as well. There are trails throughout for you to explore the place. Skinner's Butte Park - Willamette River

    Skinner's Butte Park

Skinner (not Skinner's) Butte Park is the the location of the homestead of Eugene's founder, named…read moreEugene Skinner, and is one of the city's oldest parks. It's a large park right on the banks of the Willamette River and offers a variety of activities. There's the playground, RiverView Discovery Village, which is fairly large and has some pretty cool. It has various structures for kids to play on and around, representing storefronts, a stagecoach, and so on. There's the typical slides and swings and stuff that you'll find at a playground as well. They also have a "splash pad", which is a circular pipe sticking out of the ground about 10 feet, but it does spray so I guess it's something. The park fronts the river, and although the playground is not immediately on the bank of the river it's close enough that you'll want to keep a close watch on your children (every year there are tragedies along the Willamette). There is no fencing or anything around the playground, which seems like a no-brainer in this location but I guess not, and that's why I give the three-star rating instead of four. It's just a really nerve-wracking park especially for parents of small children. There could be more picnic tables around the playground... there's at least three, but that may be it. There's lots of green space for folks to spread out on the grass as well, which several people were doing whilst we were here celebrating my daughter's birthday. There was a drum circle that showed up about 20 minutes before we left as well and that was kinda cool. Part of the general park area are the Columns, remnants of a basalt quarry that existed for a few decades in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is a pretty popular spot for rock climbing. It's a short distance from the playground area. I went with a class as a middle schooler and was not too keen on climbing myself. Then there's the titular Butte, which one can hike to the top or drive. I've never hiked up myself, but the drive is sometimes closed to traffic when fires are a concern. There are biking trails, a community garden, and the Campbell Senior Center is on the eastern edge of the park as well. There are bathrooms here, and although I didn't go into them my sister and friend did and apparently they're kinda weird--no doors on the stalls. I suppose that must be some sort of safety measure? It's fairly odd, regardless. There's a fairly decent sized parking lot to the east of the playground as well, and parking along the southern end of the park (at the base of the Butte).

It's always a nice time at Skinner's Butte Park no matter what time of year it is. A little colder…read moreon the path by the river, but still a breath of fresh air!

It rivaled the Bean courts and Underbridge as the place to play in town outside. Those who play here simply call it U.P. All the highschool and college players would come down here to play on the modest court that was small enough to run 4 on 4 fullcourt. Halfcourt shots were well within range of some of the guys who filled it up regularly. The wait could be long and would stretch as deep as six games on a good afternoon. But half the fun was hanging out with all the other ballers and watch the sunbathers out in the grass. Sadly, the old wood backboard is gone, replaced sometime in the early 2000's by a ridiculous single stantion, double rimmed metal behemoth. The games aren't as good anymore but you can still catch a game here if you're lucky. Usually just some out of town UO kids or nostalgic South cats. Good luck, and keep running those games.

There are trees to sit under on hot days and plenty of grass to lay out on. The bathrooms always surprise me that they don't have doors on the stalls! That's definitely something I've had to get used to living in Eugene because I've noticed this as multiple parks. This park is accessible by bus and has a bus stop very close to it.
