Eugene , Or. Great little hike with extraordinary plant life. I was pretty unfamiliar with rhododendrons but really came to appreciate the size and variety of these showy flowers. Nice cool misty day, not quite raincoat weather.

What an absolutely beautiful place to walk around. The rhodedendrons are in full bloom right now so it was the perfect time to visit. The landscaping here is exquisite and there is seating scattered throughout the park to sit and really take it all in. Highly recommended.

Pretty plants. Super green. It's a park, man. Just go enjoy it. Pros: issa park. Cons: the birbs scream in the morning? Idk.

Hendricks Park isn't a whole lot more than a neighborhood green spot; there are flowers within it that are quite lovely, and the grounds are fairly well maintained. That said, the park is inside a University neighborhood, and doesn't offer much of anything else to see apart from flowers. To be fair, you could take a very short walk here, but if you didn't there wouldn't be any kind of view to cause you to stop and take pictures. All things considered, it's still probably worth visiting here if for no other reason than to see the neighborhood its in; it's one of the best neighborhoods in Eugene.

Great spot for a picnic, hike or just a getaway. Beautiful park. Dogs are welcomed except for in the Garden area.

Yelp 100 Challenge 56 What a beautiful park! The rhododendron garden is amazing. We were lucky to visit at a time when we could enjoy the blooms. So many colors! Appreciated the walking paths through the garden. Had a funny experience with flying worms on what looked like silk threads both in the parking lot and on the garden path. They were maybe 1/4 inch long and we had to brush them off of ourselves. That was wild. Would have liked to have taken my well behaved dog into the park, however, since that's not possible, the other section of the park called the 'Forest' welcomes dogs if you choose to visit. I'd recommend Hendricks Park in a heartbeat. Lucky neighborhood surrounding the park, those folks can enjoy the beauty year around, just look out for those flying worms.

Hendricks park is such a beautiful place to walk around. I love the trails, the view of the city, all of the labeled plants. The rhododendrons are gorgeous around March-May, depending on the year. The deciduous trees are beautiful in the fall. Apparently, it's a good stop for Pokemon-go too, if you're into that. I don't play myself, but I was recently there with some people who do. We also found a Lane County Rock! That was awesome!

I love the purple Rhody's. They just capture my heart.

I love it here any time of year. It brings peace, and calming to your soul from its beauty and the the views! I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. I have many great memories here. I have taken some of my best floral pics here, and it's just a great place to go burn off lunch walking through the paths. It is kind of a bonus to just sit and listen to, and watch the birds.

Really wonderful, well maintained park. Beautiful trials with great options for quick hikes with kids. The picnic benches were perfect and sweet swings were just a bonus!

Before my daughter had morning classes at U of O we decided to start walking the park. I haven't been up there in years, since I moved away when I was 17. It was actually more beautiful then I remember. The grounds are kept up and the they have signs indicating as to what flower or plant you are observing. The only thing I didn't know is dogs are not along on the grounds near the plants and flowers which I completely understand. It's definitely a beautiful quiet place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

This rating is for being a 'city' park. Hendricks park is located in Eugene and is surrounded by houses/ a community. That being said, when you are in the park, you feel completely isolated. Because it is inside the city limits, the park is smaller than I would like but it is well maintained and beautiful. The restrooms are also surprisingly modern and clean. We came to see the Rhododendrons in the garden today which was quite the treat. Literally every color of the rainbow was in bloom with varying shades. I am excited to make another visit when different flowers are in bloom. The only downside is that the garden is off limit to pets so leave your furry family at home if you want to visit the garden.

Loved this park and wrote about it and painted too! He lectured on philosophy as sunlight striped the green while rhododendrons towered o'er and conversation reigned ... the three of them dwarfed by the trees and by the "Golden Mean!" July 11, 2016, June Luvisi (My painting of Hendrick's Park, Or., where the rhodendrons are gigantic!)

So beautiful :) I love that it's high and tucked away and shaded by trees and never overly crowded. A very special place in the neighborhood! My favorite is the swings. Such a peaceful place with a spectacular view of the city below.

Great urban park with forest, flowers, picnic area and trails. Some trails are dog friendly but not all.

Skinner's Butte Park - Willamette River

    Skinner's Butte Park

Skinner (not Skinner's) Butte Park is the the location of the homestead of Eugene's founder, named…read moreEugene Skinner, and is one of the city's oldest parks. It's a large park right on the banks of the Willamette River and offers a variety of activities. There's the playground, RiverView Discovery Village, which is fairly large and has some pretty cool. It has various structures for kids to play on and around, representing storefronts, a stagecoach, and so on. There's the typical slides and swings and stuff that you'll find at a playground as well. They also have a "splash pad", which is a circular pipe sticking out of the ground about 10 feet, but it does spray so I guess it's something. The park fronts the river, and although the playground is not immediately on the bank of the river it's close enough that you'll want to keep a close watch on your children (every year there are tragedies along the Willamette). There is no fencing or anything around the playground, which seems like a no-brainer in this location but I guess not, and that's why I give the three-star rating instead of four. It's just a really nerve-wracking park especially for parents of small children. There could be more picnic tables around the playground... there's at least three, but that may be it. There's lots of green space for folks to spread out on the grass as well, which several people were doing whilst we were here celebrating my daughter's birthday. There was a drum circle that showed up about 20 minutes before we left as well and that was kinda cool. Part of the general park area are the Columns, remnants of a basalt quarry that existed for a few decades in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is a pretty popular spot for rock climbing. It's a short distance from the playground area. I went with a class as a middle schooler and was not too keen on climbing myself. Then there's the titular Butte, which one can hike to the top or drive. I've never hiked up myself, but the drive is sometimes closed to traffic when fires are a concern. There are biking trails, a community garden, and the Campbell Senior Center is on the eastern edge of the park as well. There are bathrooms here, and although I didn't go into them my sister and friend did and apparently they're kinda weird--no doors on the stalls. I suppose that must be some sort of safety measure? It's fairly odd, regardless. There's a fairly decent sized parking lot to the east of the playground as well, and parking along the southern end of the park (at the base of the Butte).

It's always a nice time at Skinner's Butte Park no matter what time of year it is. A little colder…read moreon the path by the river, but still a breath of fresh air!

It rivaled the Bean courts and Underbridge as the place to play in town outside. Those who play here simply call it U.P. All the highschool and college players would come down here to play on the modest court that was small enough to run 4 on 4 fullcourt. Halfcourt shots were well within range of some of the guys who filled it up regularly. The wait could be long and would stretch as deep as six games on a good afternoon. But half the fun was hanging out with all the other ballers and watch the sunbathers out in the grass. Sadly, the old wood backboard is gone, replaced sometime in the early 2000's by a ridiculous single stantion, double rimmed metal behemoth. The games aren't as good anymore but you can still catch a game here if you're lucky. Usually just some out of town UO kids or nostalgic South cats. Good luck, and keep running those games.

They have a playground for kids, basket ball court, large grass area with picnic tables, bathrooms and a baseball field. I always see many different types and ages of people enjoying outdoor activities here and it's located close to Sundance in case you need to grab a snack. There are trees to sit under on hot days and plenty of grass to lay out on. The bathrooms always surprise me that they don't have doors on the stalls! That's definitely something I've had to get used to living in Eugene because I've noticed this as multiple parks. This park is accessible by bus and has a bus stop very close to it. People do a good job of keeping this Park clean and I hope it stays that way. I'm pretty sure some events go on here during the summer but not positive which ones.
