I was very happy with Overby Fencing but 1 year in and we have had gate problems. My wife and I have both tried to contact Seth with no response. All we wanted was some info on the initial gate installation. Seth did work for a friend as well. That job did not go well as the vinyl fencing blew down during one of the heavy winds. I am still happy with the fence projects Seth did on our property. I'm just not happy that he seems to be all in doing the initial job, and responds when we have more fence work, but then no response after 1 year. For simple fencing I would give him 5 stars. Anything that requires any extra engineering, I'd look for someone else. read more

Gabriel (Seth) Overby is a con artist! He doesn't follow through with contract, he collects payments then doesn't show up or barely completes the job. He is rude and retaliatory, even going as far as purposely damaging fences/gates that he has installed to force the customer to come out of pocket for repairs. Mr Overby sells a good story but doesn't provide adequate services. Stir clear of him he WILL rip you off! He also does business under the name Viking fence. We are out thousands of dollars from shoddy, misrepresented work that was not performed even to a handyman's standards, let alone a licensed fencing contractor's standard at our ranch in El Dorado County. I would give zero stars if I could. Be forewarned if during busy times, you find someone immediately available to do the work, when everyone else is booked for months. We provided a straightforward design, yet Seth implemented it incorrectly by setting the posts wrong; he would not take responsibility for the mistake, and in fact, blamed us for not catching the problem. We felt that a licensed fencing contractor given a clear set of plans that he stated he clearly understood did not need to be micromanaged. He sent a crew out but made few appearances himself, and his crew appeared to be labor he hired with little experience. I'm writing this to save you the enormous expense and pain we had to endure by hiring this company, paying him thousands for his time and materials, and then having to hire a second company to re-implement the majority of the fence, which included having to repurchase and re-set dozens of posts. Had we not caught all of the shortcuts made, this fence (not even appropriately set at the right depth in concrete), would have blown over and collapsed after the first wind storm. He wasn't even able to follow a simple design, and didn't seem to care. This company had pulled stunts like this prior, per their negative online reviews, and we saw a complaint on file with the contractor's board; we just wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Can't recommend him and currently in a battle just trying to get some resolution. With a strong need to be 'right', a refusal to apologize or understand all that went wrong, it's time to visit the State Contractor's board and perhaps even small claims court. This is the first time I have ever had to write a negative review, and it pains me to do so, but we are actually experienced home owners and home builders, that just needed help during a busy time getting a rather large fence built. We put our trust into Seth and he took advantage. I hope Mr. Overby will eventually learn from his mistakes as he's actually a nice guy who either is just too inexperienced to be working in his trade. One year ago Overby Fence did a combination dog-ear wood, and wood-framed metal fence for me around roughly 1/2 acre to "deer-proof" the area. This included 2 large gates. They came out promptly, and kept to the estimate. Within a couple of months, the 4 8' long planter boxes they made, out of 1x12 lumber were falling apart, very warped, and they were toe-nailed with no internal corner boards. (We made new ones ourselves out of 2x12 redwood; I still don't believe they used redwood, as he said). The fence they built looked much lighter weight than the photos I had shown him, but I figured, at that time, it would do the job, so I was ok with the initial job. By June, the fence was quite literally falling apart in places. The 1x12 kickboards used along the ground level were warping and pulling away from the posts in several places, the fence that was supposed to keep deer out had large gaps that fawns were able to get through, and several of the fence posts could be pushed by hand. When I finally got a call back, 2 weeks after trying to get them out for repairs, he was rude to the point that I told him that I did not want him back to fix anything; that we would handle it. One year, almost to the day of the Overby installation, we are having another company repair his work. One of the worst issues has been that the footers on the 8ft. high posts that were supposed to support a 12 ft long gate were grossly inadequate, as was the post itself, only being a 4x4. My new fence contractor literally pulled the post out the inadequate concrete footing by hand. The other gate's post is in the same condition, and that gate, that used to close in the center, now overlaps about 3" at the top, gaping at the bottom. I have been reluctant to post such a negative review, and I've left a lot out, but after having this fence falling apart within 1 year, I felt I must let others know that this is not the best company to have build your fence. read more

Please stay away from this company. Seth came out and installed an entry gate for us and it failed one month after. The hinges broke because the gate was too heavy for the hinges he used. He told us he would put more heavy duty hinges on the gate and when we returned home from work the same type of hinges were replaced. We asked him why he did not replace the hinges with the more heavy duty ones and he said he never said he was going to do that. Of course the hinges broke again two months later and we cannot get him to call us back or come out to repair gate. We have mailed him a letter and left voice mails and texted with no reply's back. I have made a complaint with the Contractors State License Board. Hopefully they can help. If not, we will take him to small claims court for the amount to repair fence. read more

Complete Fraud! Seth was supposed to replace a 6ft wood fence in my back yard. Said it was an easy job and he would have it done in a week. He showed up 2 days for a total of about 4 hours and did very little work. I haven't seen him, gotten any of my calls returned and sure as hell haven't gotten my deposit back. After making several phone calls, I found out that he isn't a licensed contractor. Contact your local authorities if you come into contact with this guy. By the looks of it, This guy writes his own positive reviews. Nobody would EVER write something positive after seeing his work! read more

I guess I will be adding to the long list of bad reviews. Seth and his team replaced two sections of my fence in 2018 and now an entire section is leaning and almost ready to fall over. I have attempted to contact Seth numerous times by phone and sent a quote request through his website and he will not respond. Very disappointed as he was recommended to me from a friend and seemed like a good guy when he came out to do the job. When we purchased our Cameron Park home the previous owner had removed 24 feet of fencing between the garage and the side fence to accommodate RV parking. They had left the previous steel fencing material behind which I needed re-installed in order to keep the deer out of my back yard, they love my roses, tomatoes and any other plants they can get to. I contacted several other fence companies in Sacramento and had received significantly higher bids for the same job with new material. The other companies seemed uninterested in the job unless I purchased new material. One of my neighbors recently had a swimming pool installed and had fencing installed around her entire back yard, I decide to reach out to her for a referral. She referred me to Seth at Overby Fencing. I called Seth late on a Friday afternoon and left a message. He returned my call the following Monday morning and I told him about my small project. He happened to be in the area and stopped by to look at the job even though I wasn't home. He told me his preferred fabrication method was welding and as my existing fence is welded that's the way I wanted to go. We scheduled a time for him to return on Wednesday morning to nail down the details and for him to provide a written estimate. He arrived on Wednesday morning as scheduled, we discussed the details of where I wanted the fence, gates, latches, etc. I approved the estimate and he told me he would be back on Thursday morning, weather permitting, to do the job. He arrived shortly after 9am, we talked about the job, and he started working. I had to leave for an appointment around 11:15 and he was busting out the work. I told him I'd return home around 3:30. He told me he would stop by later that day or the next to make sure everything was as I expected. When I returned home that afternoon he called to see if he could stop by as he would be in the area. When he came by, he asked me how I wanted the top finished off on one of the gates he fabricated from some fence material I had. He made it so, I wrote him a check, and we chatted for 15 minutes. As a retired contractor, I had planned on doing this job myself but other priorities always got in the way. Had I found Overby Fence sooner, I would have had this project done 2+ years ago. Seth came out and gave a quote for replacing 65 feet of 4 foot high chain link fence with 6 foot chain link fence, which was less than other quote we received. I was also happy that he was able to start in a week or so. They completed the job in 2 days. However he did very poor quality work. The gate he installed was done very uneven and doesn't hang straight. It also doesn't even latch closed which I had asked for and he said he would do. One of the posts that was put into concrete is loose. And majority of the fixtures were spray painted black to match instead of being already black, and some of these are already chipping. I tried to call him many times to address the issues and he never answers or returns my calls. Very frustrated and very dissatisfied with the workmanship. If you care about the quality of the work you are getting done, don't use this guy!! read more

I contracted with Seth to put up fencing and a decorative gate across my sidewalk / driveway. Within a week the the gate was sagging and hitting the latch pole. The gate hinge pole was not mounted sturdy enough in the ground to hold the gate from dropping. I called Seth many times about this problem and he refuses to call me back and fix the issue. I now have a $3,000 plus gate that I can't use. I would not hire Seth to do any fencing or gate work. Someone who does not return your calls is very unprofessional. read more

So disappointed. He took my building materials, never showed back up to finish the job and then won't answer his phone. Left the job half done and the yard in a mess. Seemed like a nice and honorable guy. He and his son built two wire fences for me. Then he contracted to build a wooden fence with a wooden railing. Not only did he NOT do it, he took a railing template from my existing deck railing and a bunch of other railing materials I had, then disappeared. I must of called him 10 times. At this point I just want my supples back. Never would have thought he was such a flake. If he couldn't do the job, at least talk to me about it!! I would pick someone else. They originally over charged and then to make It right they offered to install additional fence to make up for the over charges. It was obvious they didn't want to do it based on the terrible quality of the remainder of fence installed. They take shortcuts and I look at the fence everyday and wished I never had it installed. Seth and son did a great job. They built two fences for us in the last 5 years. They were in and out in 2 days each time. This included removing the existing fences. We had 1 minor miscommunication on the length of one of the fences. Seth took care of it without hesitation or extra charge. read more

I hired Seth and his company to put in about 600 feet of 6-foot high field fence on my wildland property in Camino. The issue was that almost all of this was on top of thick lava cap. He gave me a reasonable quote for the work. They had to use a jackhammer to bust through into the cap, and they had to set most of the tee-posts and the lodge pole braces in concrete. It took them longer than expected, 6.5 days instead of 5 days, but they kept the price the same. Seth and is workers were very professional in their job and work ethic. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs field fencing. read more
